On April 17, 2012 bayside Toyota replaced the brake master cylinder seal on the Avalon under recall# 10v499000. Almost exactly 3 years later on April 18, 2015 the brake master cylinder seal failed as I was backing the car out of my garage. I was able to use my parking brake to stop the vehicle. Toyota claims that although the original seal never failed after 6 years of service it was replaced because it was a safety concern. The new seal failed after 3 years and Toyota claims it is only covered by a 12 month component warranty and is an "inconvenience" but not a safety issue. Toyota gave me a case number but said there was nothing else they could do. Had I been driving the car at full speed the results would have been catastrophic. I am having the car repaired at my own cost but I have no faith that the brake system is safe.
2006 Toyota Avalon. Consumer states unintended acceleration the consumer stated while stopped at a light with his foot on the brake, the engine suddenly revved up and the vehicle accelerated half way into the intersection. He kept his foot on the brake as hard as possible. He was able to put the gear in park and shut off the engine. When the light turned green, he restarted the engine with no problems. The vehicle was taken to the dealer the next day where the they performed a modification to the brake master cylinder.

After repairs, the contact noticed that when she would drive and remove her foot from the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would stop independently and then proceed as if it were pulling or dragging abnormally. The master cylinder went out on my 2008 Avalon while on a road trip the car only has 14,000 miles on it. I owned a 2006 Toyota highlander previously and had trouble with acceleration but mine was deceleration it would just stop going and I would have to pull over restart car and take off again it did it repeatedly I took it in and they had a hard time figuring out what it was I do not know what it was. Don't know if anyone else had this problem with a highlander or not.

Car had been parked in garage for 2 days. Drove vehicle about 1/4 mile and stopped for stop light. When entering intersection, heard a loud clunk. Car was very sluggish and noticed smoke through rear window. Stopped and found brakes locked and abs/vsc indicators on dash lit. Had car towed to Toyota dealer who found "master cylinder seized code c1246 pressure sensor malfunction". They replaced master brake cylinder. Told them I wanted part back but they said Toyota had priority over part and kept it. Vehicle had 65,614 miles on it at time of incident. Also, brake system flush had been performed by Toyota dealer 4000 miles and 4 months previous.

Driving car in parking lot at 10 mph and suddenly would not move any more when in gear while engine running normally. Following indicator lights were "vsc on", "vsc off", and "abs". Wheels were totally locked and would not turn and tires drug when vehicle pulled up flatbed tow truck with winch. Dealer diagnosed as "found brakes are locked on. Found master cylinder not releasing. Brake fluid in booster". Described to me by dealer on phone that pin in master cylinder froze for some unknown reason. Took almost 2 weeks for dealer to get part as national backorder (which could indicate a serious, frequent problem with this part). This could have killed me and my family if operating at highway speeds when pin locked. This appears to be identical to previous condition noted in odi claim 10215967 on same year and model of vehicle. This is an extremely dangerous condition, should not normally occur, but appears to be happening to more than one owner.
While driving 10mph, car suddenly stops, motor running normally. Collared pin in master cylinder failed causing brakes to seize with abs and asc failure. If I had been on a freeway, I would surely have been backended or skidded on ice out of control with no way to recover.
Master cylinder seized up and was unable to move vehicle.
Slow loss of brake fluid on 2004 Toyota Avalon xls. Dealer had to replace brake master cylinder and brake booster. Repairs were covered under warranty, however I feel that this was a serious problem and one that should be reported as there may be other vehicles with similar problem.

: the contact stated the brake indicator light illuminated. The following day while driving 55mph the brake pedal vibrated and traveled to the floor. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. Upon inspection the dealer determined there was no brake fluid in the reservoir. The defective seals allowed brake fluid to drain from the brake booster and into the master cylinder. The dealer replaced the reservoir, brake booster and master cylinder.
Toyota Avalon 2005, total brake failure. There were no brakes after consumer got oil changed, consumer had the dealership fix the problem, dealership put in a new master cylinder. As of June 15,2005 consumer has not picked up the vehicle from the dealership.
Rear cylinder head failure caused coolant to leak on to spark plugs. Yh.

Vehicle brake system is of concern. Occasionally when the vehicle is brought to a stop the brake pedal will move down toward the floor a few seconds after the car is stopped. The two times I have brought this to the attention of the dealer, I am being told that this is normal for the vehicle and that all of them do this. This is the second Avalon I have owned and the first one did not have the situation happen. Other Avalon owners I have spoken to have never had this happen. The movement of the brake pedal downward after stopping does not occur all the time. It looks to occur after driving the vehicle for a period of time at highway speeds and in local traffic that requires constand stopping and starting. The pedal movement occurs about 10 to 15 seconds after stopping but does not occur every time. This brake pedal movement is of concern sice I have been driving for over 40 years. Brake pedal movement after stopping a vehicle has always been a sign of failure within the system. Usually a failing master cylinder. The movement of the brake pedal after stopping is not a confortable feeling and all that I have talked to (both Toyota owners and other mfg's) no one has experience this pedal movement. This includes cars that have skid control systems. I am concerned enough about this brake pedal issue and want confirmation from the vehicle manufacturer (not the dealer) that this is not a safety issue. Closing note, talked to a few Lexus owners, none have experienced this brake pedal movement.
