I was heading down snow geese south in duck n. C. To turn left onto wood duck drive. As I approached the turn, my brakes failed and I went into the parking area of 1324 duck road. I could hit a parked truck or house. I hit the truck. The airbags didnt deploy. None of them. It was a head on collision. My car was totaled. The police showed up and were suprised that there were no airbags. This concerns me greatly. The brakes failing was scary enough, but absolutely no airbags!.

2nd complaint (first complaint - #10522765) - on July 2, 2013, around 5:20 p. M. , my fourth incident of brake failure occurred. I was going about 5 miles and applied brakes. Brakes failed and engine sounded like it was racing. I crashed into a the rear of a sedan which was stopped. No injuries were sustained. We were able to drive the cars to a development to exchange insurance information. I drove the car to the dealership for trade-in since it was unreliable for driving at slow speeds. An earlier potential incident occurred in the morning when I was braking and slowing down to make a right hand turn, the individuals were crossing the street on which I was turning into and the brakes seemed to not engaged and the engine began to race. I applied more pressure on the brake pedal and the brakes engaged and stopped the car, barely. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of quality in the Toyota Avalon. I am also disappointed in the Toyota service center's focus of the braking system without examining computer systems' engine controls and speed controls.

Brake failure issue with 2009 Toyota Avalon
driving slowly (10-15 mph) downhill on very smoothly paved residential community street; applied slow, steady pressure on brake pedal on approaching stop sign intersection. Felt and heard a ratcheting, sort of gear-gnashing noise in the brake pedal. Vehicle did not stop, but continued moving forward into intersection. Lifted foot off the brake and hit pedal again, more firmly. Only then did vehicle stop, already into the thankfully empty intersection. Brought problem to local Toyota dealer's attention on February 12th (at which time, they brought to my attention the accelerator recall status of my vehicle. )
while said dealer applied the accelerator pedal recall fix, they did not take any remedial action on the reported brake failure, although they did suggest that it sounded like a dysfunctional engaging of the abs. They said that their diagnostics did not evince a confirming problem code(s), nor did a short test run replicate the glitch. This is a virtually brand new 2009 Toyota Avalon with only 790 miles accumulated on it to date (the first 100 of which were accrued on the original dealer's sales lot). It is worrisome that such a potentially dangerous abs dysfunction should be showing up so soon!.

I purchased a used 2008 Toyota Avalon limited from hornburg Jaguar dealer in santa monica on 10/29/2009. At home at 8 am, on the clear, cool day of 11/1/2009 I had the car parked in my driveway to install the garage door opener. Wanting to move the car to the street I started the car using the required proceedure for a pushbutton ignition (like on my 2007 Toyota camry hybrid for 2 1/2 years). That is, I stepped on the brake and pushed the ignition button simultaeneously. The car started to move rapidly down my short sloping driveway (7 or 8 feet). As I pushed harder, the break pedal in effect went to the floor- no breaking at all. I hit the curb very hard on the other side of the narrow street, the rear end of the car bouncing into the air , and ended up, perhaps 10 feet beyond, hitting the front bedroom wall of my neighbor's home with considerable force and resulting in significant damage to the wall. I apparently did not sustain physical damage. I am inclined to believe there was an accelerator component problem also because I was moving so fast. The car is being repaired now physically, as is the house, and I have contacted Toyota locally in torrance and I understand someone there will follow-up on this accident within the next 4 days. I tried to duplicate the brake failure problem with my camry hybrid and I was not able to duplicate it. When pressing on the start button and the brake at the same time I always have a firm brake on the camry. When I duplicated the proceedure on the Avalon I found that the brake pedal went soft rapidly, the more I pushed it, to the floor. My repair shop will not drive the car until something is resolved, nor will I. I will be glad to furnish anything more you may wish to know about this incident.

The contact owns 1998 Toyota Avalon. When the vehicle is on a slight incline, while in reverse or moving forward a loud metal noise is present in the fuel tank. The dealer stated that brake failure was the cause of the noise and that the brakes needed to be replaced. An independent mechanic confirmed that the baffle was loose inside the fuel tank and that the brakes were not related to the failure. The fuel tank has not been repaired. The contact is concerned that the failure could cause a fire. The current mileage was 49,950 and the failure mileage was 49,920.
