Six problems related to brake disc caliper have been reported for the 1997 Toyota Camry. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Brake calipers failed.
Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with front brakes. Whenever brakes are applied the brakes sound as if it is metal to metal grinding. Vehicle inspected, and brakes pads have been replaced three times, and condition still a occurs.
Could hear grinding noise when applying brakes at 40mph; took to dealer & mechanic took for test drive; had same problem; had calipers, pads & rotors replaced. Problem still exists.
Brakes will lock up,will not release even traveling at high speeds, causing mass vibration on car. Unable to stop properly. Have replaced brake caliper system professionally 3 times, works for approx 1 month then system fails again. Unsafe to drive at speeds over 50 miles per hour.
Brakes lock up, will not release even at high speeds,causing mass vibration or unable to stop properly. Have replaced brake calipers, professionally 3 times. Worked approximately 1 month and situation started again. 1st indication was blakes were rock hard when compressed. As speed increased, vibration increased. Mechanic advised also bolt came loose frm drivetrain, causing boucey effect prior to brake problems.
Calipers and pads have been replaced 4 times vehicle still continues to have braking prolems, cause unknown. Dealer cannot fix it.
