Air Bag Light On problems of the 2007 Toyota Camry

My car has been driving normally. I keep up with maintenance. I turned on the car and started driving like normal. No lights were on. As I got on the highway the airbag light turned on. It has not turned off since.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. Whenever the seat belt was connected, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer who informed the contact that there was an out-of-pocket diagnostic fee because there were no recalls or warranties related to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.

The airbag light came on shortly after I purchased the used car from a dealership. The dealership claimed they fixed the issue but the airbag light is still on and they refuse to fix the problem. I do not know what is causing the airbag to malfunction and the possible issues that may arise should I be involved in an accident.

I adjusted the steering column while at a stop light. When I locked everything in place, the airbag light lit up. All of the controls on the steering wheel do not work. I can't use the horn; turn the radio on or make hands free calls. I took it to Toyota and they said it was the wiring harness for the airbag and it was an expensive repair. I've left it alone for 5 years. I figure with the takata air bag issue I might be better off.

The dashboard is disintegrating. The area on the front part of the dashboard (closest to the windshield) seems to be the worse, although the problem is spreading to the entire dash. It is sticky, tacky, shiny and gouges easily. This problem is creating a glare and is dangerous. The dash is basically melting. I worry about the function of the airbags. Recently my airbag light is coming on and then going out for no apparent reason. I fear that the dash will become so unstable that it will cause the airbag to deploy. Please help. I am afraid for anyone to sit on the driver's side of my car.

Airbag indicator light came on for apparently no reason, took car in for service and was told it was not an issue with Toyota, I had to pay to get part replaced, after almost $400 repair cost, got vehicle back and running. This issue should not be put on the back of consumers as these are safety parts that should last much longer that average parts of the cars.

Air bag indicator light has been on since at least 9/18/12. Several Toyota technicians stated it was the squib cable in the steering wheel that needs replacement - other Toyota representatives state that it is not the cable. I know the Toyota tacoma (?) truck was recalled for a similar problem and the defect corrected. I cannot get a straight answer from Toyota if the air bags will engage in a collision - some technicians say it may or may not. The cost to repair was quoted to be somewhere around $680. 00.

I was a passenger in my car and my boyfriend was driving on the highway 101 (northbound) in san francisco and were struck by another vehicle from the rear about 20-30 mph. Neither airbag went off from the collision, causing me to hit my head on the dash and my boyfriend hitting his legs on the dash and steering console. The airbag light is on indicating it was deployed and the repair shop is informing us that it has to be replaced.

The dealer contacted the regional manager. The manager stated they will cover the cost to diagnose the failure; but they will not pay for the repair. The failure mileage was 29,000 and the current mileage was 30,637.

My 2007 Camry se was t-boned on the driver side by a 2006 SAAB. The SAAB's airbags went off and the car was considered totalled. The point of impact was the front end of the SAAB into the drivers side door - estimated speed was 30mph. No airbags went off in the 2007 Camry! no indicators we lit on the dash. The car had 5500 miles on it. The car was repaired and not totaled because the airbags did not go off. Total repairs on this car are currently around $14,000.
