1 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2024

Because of the sticky dash’s glare on the driver side windshield, I could not see the car ahead of me at all. I almost hit a car that was in front of me not because he had braked because we were both still in motion but the glare was directly in my line of vision. I just happened to put my hand up over the glare and saw there was actually a silver car in front of me and I was way to close to it. No accident occurred but it almost did and certainly could have injured me and/or my passengers. This has to be fixed! that scared me to death! I truly had no idea there was a car in front of me as I could not see it from the dash’s glare off the windshield.

2 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2024

Vehicles dash board is melting. Produces a high shine effect that reflects sunlight into the front glass, effectively blinding the driver. Toyota has acknowledged this in a “warranty enhancement program” but will no longer repair the dashboard as the recall has “expired”. The warranty program had expired prior to me taking ownership of the vehicle. Engine burns oil due to piston assembly manufacturing errors. Toyota has acknowledged this in t-sb-0158-14 but will no longer repair the engine as the recall has “expired”. The recall had expired prior to me taking ownership of the vehicle.

3 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2023

I recently purchased a used car for my son who is a new driver. He complained to me that there is a bad glare coming from the dashboard that impairs his visibility of the road in front of him. I took the attached picture of the situation and clearly the glare significantly impacts visibility as I can barely distinguish the car just ahead of us. In researching the issue online, I found there was an opportunity for the previous owner to have the dashboard replaced but they did not or were not aware of it and now that timeframe is over. Considering the potential safety issue here, why isn't this a recall item? is there an opportunity to extend or re-open the replacement window or other action by your agency to address this issue before a serious or even deadly accident were to occur?.

4 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2023

The dash is very sticky and is putting a glare when driving toward the sun it is so bad you can’t see pedestrians walking on the road.

5 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2022

The 2007 Toyota Camry has a manufacturing defect related to sticky/melting dashboards as a result of heat or humidity. Toyota sent me a warranty notice for an extension for 10 years from the date of first use of the vehicle, which they determined was the date that I purchased the vehicle on July 31, 2007. In 2013, I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer, however, they refused to replace the dashboard because, in their opinion, it was not sufficiently compromised. However, now, years later, the dashboard has become very sticky and reflective. It produces a glare into the windshield, impairing vision, which is now a safety issue due to the manufacturer defect. This defect could cause serious injury and death. On August 5, 2022, I appealed to Toyota customer service for them to replace the dashboard. I emphasized the safety issue. However, a senior representative declined to make an exception. I then wrote to tetsuo "ted" ogawa, ceo of Toyota motor north America to ask for his help (see attached letter). I asked him to personally authorize the dashboard replacement and reply to me directly. Almost two months later, I have not received any communication from him. Moreover, on October 4th, I called Toyota customer service to follow-up on my letter. I was told that scott murphy, executive office administrator send me an email on September 1st asking for the best time to contact me. I never received this email, neither in my inbox or in my gmail spam folder. That same day, I called mr. Murphy and left a detailed voice message. I have called him several times since then, each time leaving a message on his voicemail. He has deliberately refused to return my phone calls. I am appalled that Toyota and its ceo does not take safety issues seriously. I kindly ask you to either contact Toyota on my behalf to have them replace the dashboard, or to issue a recall of all 2007 Toyota Camry's due to a manufacturer defect that can result in serious injury or death.

6 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

My dash board is sticky and uncleanable, making it very hard to see out the windshield at all hours day or night, which could potentially cause a crash. I have also noticed tons of people online with the same problem. This needs to be recalled or class action lawsuit.

7 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2021

The front dash assembly is melted over time and is so bad I cannot see out the front windshield. I told the dealership that I believe this was a recall and they said it was but that the specific job for that expired ? I didn’t know recalls expired. They are willing to fix the current situation with the current system failure of the over heating window switches but a major problem is the visibility up front. I have to wear sun glasses just to see through that horrible glare from the melted dashboard. Also not sure if their is any suspension issues with my 2007 Toyota Camry. The steering wheel shakes some and I’ve purchased new tires wheels and some rotation balance and alignment and no additional work or parts where needed to fix that problem. The alignment did reduce some steering wheel shaking but it’s getting worse again. Any help would be appreciated and if we could get the dealership to fix the front dashboard that would be phenomenal. Thank you.

Failure Date: 11/08/2021

I'm submitting this, as I've been dismissed by Toyota corporation with my concerns. I purchased this car from an individual. I did not realize the magnitude of visibility issue with the glare from the dash. I asked at the time about the shiny and sticky dash, and the owner stated that year of Toyota Camry had defective dash that melted, therefor the issue. When I'm driving, the glare causes me not to be able to see clearly. I called Toyota corporate office and was told it's not a safety issue although I explained in detail about the serious visual problem. Because the previous owner did not take care of the recall on this, I was told it's expired and nothing they will do. I told the man that it shouldn't have an expiration as it truly is a safety hazard! the glare was really bad one day that I couldn't see the traffic lights, etc. Without leaning down and over to the middle. I realize I purchased this car used, however Toyota should honor the safety issue recall no matter when. The dash obviously was a major defect! I was told I could buy a carpet piece to go over it, which I do not want to do. I should not have to alter the interior look, plus I think it's totally tacky! please let me know if there is anything you can do to help me get this dash replaced by Toyota. I couldn't upload video as the file is too large. The pictures give you somewhat of an idea of the safety issue. Thank you for your time!.

9 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2021

Drivers side sunvisor failed and broke off while driving. Visor fell thru drivers field of vision and distracted driver.

10 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

Toyota Camry 2007 has a sticky or melting dashboard issue and is impacting visibility when driving in sun. The dashboard shines and reflects on the windshield and impairs visibility. Toyota says their extended warranty to fix this issue is over however the vehicle has been serviced at dealerships multiple times and never was the recall / safety issue was reported to me. I would appreciate if someone can contact Toyota and ask them to fix the issue for vehicles that are still on the roads especially in the south where is blazing hot.

11 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the driver's side sun visor had separated and fell off. The contact stated that she had purchased a new sun visor online but was unable to install it on the vehicle because the part of the vehicle it needed to be attached to had a significant amount of dry glue. The contact stated that she attempted to scrape off the glue was unable to. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, who made the same assessment and informed the contact that they could not install the new sun visor on the vehicle. The contact stated that her vision of the roadway and traffic lights was significantly reduced or impaired while driving on a sunny day due to the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

12 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2020

Driver side visor flaps down to forehead level when stationary. Flaps down pointing down when in motion going over bump. Visor does not stay tucked in its stow away position. Caused injury to right temple getting into the car. Caused forehead injury at a sudden stop. Dealt we refused to replace or repair. Toyota claims the the recall ended in 2018 so the part is not eligible for replacement.

13 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2020

Dash is cracked, sticky, and melts in the heat. Makes the dash surface shiny & reflective - hard to see in sunny conditions. This is obviously a manufacturers' defect due to cheap plastic being used.

14 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Driver's side front sun visor does not stay in the upright stowed position. It droops down and obstructs visibility while driving.

15 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

This past summer (2020) the dash of my 2007 Toyota Camry got very sticky and made a reflection on my windshield making visibility impaired which is a huge hazard. You cannot see through the windshield. I researched it today and found out Toyota extended its warranty for this problem, but it expired in 2017. My problem didn't start until 2020. I want the national traffic highway safety administration to investigate this and require Toyota to do a recall for this problem.

16 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2020

I just bought this Toyota Camry and didn't realize until after that the dashboard is very sticky and gets really shiney as the temperature rises. This causes a glair on the windshield. After researching I found out that Toyota issued a extended warranty. However they said that it expired on 5/31/17 and they cant do anything. This is a safety issue and I believe that it should be recalled and they should replace the dashboard. The car only has 68370 miles and has a long life. I do feel that my life is in danger with this known problem that they don't want to fix. Please help!!!!! this issue is all of the time.

17 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

Dashboard is melting, sticky, shiny, creates dangerous glare.

18 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

The melting dashboard which causes a shine which reflects into drivers vision is a danger!!!! the fact that Toyota allows this to go on, and does not remedy it for those that (for whatever reason) missed the notices sent out is a disgrace, and a danger to not only the driver, but everyone on the road!! how many people are still driving cars with this issue?? these are accidents just waiting to happen! my mother's car dashboard did not begin to "melt" until after the notices were sent, so she didn't think there was an issue with hers. . . . Surprise!!! it has now been going on for about 3 years or more. Toyota only wants customer to pay for repair out of pocket. This will be the last Toyota in our family!.

19 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

Sun visor (passenger side) has rotated slowly downward blocking my view of the road. Apparently the spring tension mechanism failed causing the visor to hang downward obstructing my view of the road. Note: the sun visor and sun visor bracket was previously involved in a Toyota warranty enhancement notice involving this same vehicle.

20 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

The sun visor dropped, blinding my sight while driving. This is dangerous and a clear safety issue. Toyota had previously issued a warranty enhancement, but had said at the time that if the issue has not yet appeared, we should not do anything. Now that the warranty enhancement period has expired, they are not prepared to do anything. This is a clear safety concern. A recall is warranted. Not only is visibility severely impaired while driving, but also removing the visor exposes the driver to strong sun glares that make it difficult to drive safely.

21 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Passenger visor not working.

22 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

I bought my 2007 Camry in 2006 and it has been great till the last 6 months when the dash board started to get sticky and is now fully sticky and glossy to the point where the sun reflects off it and is blinding. Toyota said they had a recall which I was never notified. The address when I bought my car is the same in my driver's license and I never changed it. I live in buena park since 1991 and my drivers license has that address since I was 18 (18 years ago). I called Toyota and they said the recall needed and its. Ot their concern. I find it irresponsible that Toyota takes no action for faulty manufacturing of their products and shifts the fault to the consumer when I had no idea there was any issues. Secondly when they had the gas pedal recall I took my car in for maintenance and when I got it back they cut the pedal without my knowledge and said a replacement was on back order. I have since 2010 requested the replacement till 2011 and they always said it in back order. I gave up asking because I got excuses. When I'm driving my foot slips off the gas pedal because its shorter. Its hazardous when your making a turn and the car loses acceleration and you have to quickly hit the gas again. This is dangerous when the road is slippery in a front wheel drive. I have contacted Toyota with these concerns and all they say is that there isnt anything they can do.

23 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

I purchased this car brand new from the dealer who registered it and gave me paperwork listing my address on all of the forms. I just recently found out that there was an extended warranty program for the driver side visor defect. I had been having issues with it for a few years but since I rarely drive during the daytime it wasn't an issue until my shift changed. So now it's broken and today, years later, Toyota tells me that the warranty information was sent to an address other than the one I have lived since I purchased this car. Since I didn't register the car and all of my paperwork had my then and still address on it, I feel that they should honor the warranty because they sent it to an address that wasn't mine. They will not give me the address but referred me to my state dmv, who also will not give me this phantom address where my info was sent. Colonial Toyota registered the car for me so I have no idea what mistakes were made in the registration process and no way of getting the information. Toyota is doing what all big companies do, pass the mistakes they made to the consumer. I will never purchase anything from atoyota dealer ever again.

30 Wiper problem

Takata recall sticky dashboard, can't see with a bad glare.

31 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2018

On Monday July 30th, I took my 2008 Toyota solara convertible into hiland Toyota's dealership in moline, illinois and discussed the problem of the defective dashboard that is currently melting in my car. I have noticed this starting to occur since July 16th, 2018 when I was making a turn and my fingernail got caught within the dashboard. I am also blinded by the reflections on the windshield caused by the sticky dashboard and it's creating a film on the inside of the windshield that is difficult to see through, even with multiple cleanings. Hiland Toyota observed the defective dashboard and offered no assistance since it was after the may 31st, 2017 extended warranty. I have also attached pictures of the windshield that is filmed up after cleaning it the day before, and of the fingernail print. This problem has affected numerous Toyota and Lexus owners and Toyota has not done much about this issue. Even with the extended warranty of may 31st, 2017, multiple class action lawsuits have mentioned that Toyota doesn't have the replacement parts and said owners are waiting years after first contact to get repairs started. In my case, I contacted Toyota (file number #1808222394) about fixing the defective dashboard and they responded that after may 31st, 2017, they refuse to do anything about it. This is the first Toyota that I have purchased, however, this defective dashboard is making it unsafe to drive my car and many others agree, resulting in legal consequences. I am currently filling out a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration, in case something does happen. I am also appalled that a company that regards itself as a leader in the auto industry can let people walk off their dealership driving an unsafe car that they engineered, produced, and obviously don't stand behind.

32 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

Dashboard is too reflective, has melted and is incredibly sticky. This has resulted in a glare off the windshield that shines back into the drivers eyes and compromises visibility.

33 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Melting dashboard, sticky shiny and creates glare on windshield that is unsafe.

34 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2018

1. Background the vehicle dashboard became "sticky" on or about June 12, 2018. The entire dash is now covered with a glue-like residue. The Toyota warranty enhancement program (ze6) covering this problem expired on may 31, 2017. Toyota has refused to replace the dash under the warranty program (Toyota case #'s 1806131876, 1806210691). 2. Safety-related issues a. On warm, sunny days in direct sunlight, the sticky dash has a very bright shine. The shiny dash projects a glossy, textured image of the dash onto the front windshield. This can occur when the vehicle is either stationary or moving. This condition impedes my field of vision and makes it difficult to focus and clearly see the road ahead, other vehicles, and pedestrians. B. During the summer season, interior car temperatures can reach between 130 and 170 degrees. What toxins are being released in the car interior from the interaction of extreme heat, uv radiation, and the glue-like residue? what are the short and long term health risks from inhaling potentially toxic air in a confined space while driving? summary because of the safety issues noted above, my vehicle should be recalled as soon as possible. I strongly believe that I am driving an "unsafe" vehicle that is endangering myself, other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians. No driver should have to drive an unsafe vehicle due to a manufacturer's defect which results in diminished road visibility and potentially interior car toxins. Therefore, this is no longer a warranty issue but a serious "safety" issue that needs to be addressed.

35 Wiper problem
