While driving, my brakes have gone out (as in I have no brakes) several times intermittently. At the same time my (abs, check vsc system) light illuminate and my brake light is always illuminated. I very carefully drove it home and was forced to purchase another vehicle until I can figure out what to fix.
The vehicle's cluster would start going haywire - with the speedometer going to zero, the rpm fluctuating, and the temperature gauge reading cold, at random times while driving and in motion. The a/c would go out as well, and the brake and abs lights would come on. The car would still run but the cluster would flicker as described. After flickering for a while, it would resume as normal and then happen again as I continued driving. I had my Camry inspected and it was diagnosed with a malfunctioning abs actuator assembly. I had another abs actuator put in, and thankfully no one was injured in the car due to the faulty brake system. It was unsafe to drive as the abs was malfunctioning.

Toyota Camry abs actuator/ecm failure. I have a 2009 Camry that has been well maintained and had no known issues until last wed 2/7/18 when driving home from work all of sudden both the speedometer and tachometer went haywire and started jumping up and down from 0 to the max, then both the brake light and the abs lights came on and the temp gauge dropped to zero. I thought that the car was about to shut off but that didn't happen. My car was still driving, but none of the gauges registered that the car was in motion and the brake and abs lights remained on. Today is exactly a week from that initial warning and I am still having the same issue once the car has been in drive mode for more than 20 mins. I took the car to my local Toyota dealer who has maintained the car since my purchase for diagnosis on 2/8/18 and was told at the time that the issue is the bad abs actuator and ecm and that both pieces are a part of the car's computer that sends the signal for the brakes to stop. I was also told at that time that there was a similar issue with the hybrid Camry for the same year, and extended warranty was placed for the hybrid but not for my Camry le. I was shocked because this is a road hazard and a issue with faulty parts installed in the first place. Now Toyota is saying the repair is $2500. This should be included along with the hybrid under an extended warranty. I have found on internet searches that Toyota has been aware of the issue since at 2010 but they have refused to offer repairs. This is definitely a safety hazard whereas the driver is never certain that the brakes will work or fail. I say that maybe this car should be under a full recall because I was also told that my engine is burning excessive oil, they tested it mid year 2017 and I was just told that my car failed the test and needs to have the repair done on that as well as the abs actuator.

Odo meter malfunction, abs light,brake light on. Ac not working.
The abs and brake warning lights illuminate, temperature gauge, gear gauge and speedometer not working. This happens intermittently and, when it does, the ac does not work. The problem began with the abs and brake lights. Over time, the other gauges and the ac became involved. When these warning lights go off and the gauges work, the ac also works. I am told the brake actuator needs to be replaced.
At start up the gauges started to work intermittently, after a while driving down the road they start working fine after a few miles they start jumping and falling. Brake light and abs lights comes on and ac quits working we haven t drive the car since this started happening called the dealer and they told us to take to service, before that I will like to know if theres a recall for that. On the last service made by Toyota dealer, they washed the engine, a practice that I am not agree, does that may be the cause? let me know, thanks.
The abs light and the red bold brake light came on and then off and the next day the abs light and the brake warning light came on and the the speedometer went to zero, the tachometer went to zero when I was driving on the freeway, also the air conditioner would not work, after a few minutes the warning lights went off and everything worked for a few minutes and the same thing happened again. I drive the car immediately to the repair shop and then checked the owner's manual and read it's the abs system is malfunctioning for the car.
I started to back out of the parking spot at the hotel I was staying to go out for dinner with my friends, I release the brakes and put the car in reverse. Then all of sudden the dash board lighted up then disappeared briefly when I put it in forward. As I was driving away from the hotel the lights on the dash board was lighted again. Then as I proceed to get on the freeway the dashboard lit up with warning check vsc system. (the hotel to the freeway ramp was a block away) I was driving in the right hand lane for several miles on the 580, because I noticed the brakes felt weird. The lights on the dash board remained lighted. The red indicator light for my brakes were on indicating the brakes were not released, but it was. At this point I was tensed and scared as I drove on the 580 freeway. I exited off the freeway slower than normal and I would press down on the brakes lightly and it would jerk and rock. It would bounce myself and friends in a rocking motion. We were all scared when I told them that I was not pressing on the brakes as it rocked. I was not playing with the brakes. My friend sitting in the front passenger side, confirmed to my friend sitting in the back I was not doing anything with the brakes as we rocked while driving or at the stop signs. I was driving cautiously on the streets due to I was afraid I might rear end someone. Every time I made the stop it would rock. So from the restaurant to the hotel I drove the streets and stayed off the freeway. The "check vsc "and indicators lights remained on the whole time. The following day, my husband drove out to get the car and drove it home for me. We took the back roads home to avoid freeway driving. As I drove behind him, I notice the brake lights stayed on most of the time. He too noticed the lights on the dash board remained on and the brakes were not working correctly.
Guages started going crazy and the abs warning light and brake light came on. After reviewing several comments off the internet I think that the abs module is faulty.
First to fail was the speedo after the abs and brake light came on. No actual brake problem but the lack of speedometer is unsafe. Abs unit essentially controls instrument cluster. . Not necessary or safe plus dealer repair part approx $1800. 00.

The first reaction when seeing the brake light on was to reach for the emergency brake release and on the vehicle the release is the step type. This release is the hood release and luckily the safety on the hood did not allow the hood to open. I've reported this to Toyota when I got a recall for replacement of the dash if it cracked. They told me they hadn't heard this, and I told them to go to the internet as it was there and there were youtube videos showing this condition.

During normal operation of a 2009 Toyota Camry le with 2. 4l 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed automatic transmission on the highway traveling approximately 60 mph, the speedometer suddenly dropped to 0 and the abs and brake lights on the dash board illuminated. The car did not cease normal operation and the brakes appeared to still function and the car was drivable as normal. The speedometer needle did not move and the abs and brake lights stayed illuminated for several minutes with no noticeable change in braking ability. Then, the speedometer suddenly jumped back to 60 mph and appears to operate properly. At the same time, the abs and brake lights on the dashboard turned off. There were no noticeable changes in the operation of the car. That the same night, the exact same symptoms returned 2 more times just as they had occurred before with no warning at all.
