36 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

I was driving for work with my Toyota Camry 2007. While accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. In a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. My car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. This incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommendation of the Toyota recall procedure. I could have been easily killed in this accident. I got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. I am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective Toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error.

37 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/14/2010

My cars transmission shifting is very rough and "clunky" when coming to a stop sign or traffic light. Many times the car will seem to downshift resulting in a strong pulling (almost a braking sensation) preventing a normal coasting to a stop since, you need to keep pressing the accelerator to counteract the downshifting during a slow down. This has almost caused an accident several times. Also, conversely, the transmission seems to push the car forward in the final breaking moments due to the transmission shifting patterns. I have almost bumped the car in front of me a few times because of this. I have taken the car to the dealership and the transmission has been recalibrated several times resulting in a temporary fix but, the problem returns, sometimes in less than 24 hours of the recalibrating. I believe this is a safety concern due to my experiences of near accidents with my car.

38 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

My car is a 2007 Camry xlev6, and was not listed as part of the Toyota recall (it has locking mats). Pulled into driveway at my home, with foot on brakes as I touched auto garage door opener on visor. Car gear was in d. As I removed foot from brake to gas pedal to pull into garage, and lightly placed foot on accelerator, instantaneously engine revved, pedal went to floor, tach zoomed and auto jetted into garage. I immediately hit brakes with both feet, attempting to disengage transmission from d and put into n. Gear shift erratically plunged into r and car began to go backwards with engine throttle wide open. Again, with tires squealing, smoking & laying rubber, I tried to jam gearshift to n or p, and car jettisoned forward hitting garage wall at full force. With millisecond recovery, I held onto gearshift all the time my feet were on brakes again tried to force it into p, and it again went to r, (must pass n and r to get gear into p) then again forward in another direct hit against garage wall, breaking the wall open and splitting sheetrock as auto nearly popped through to laundry room and gas furnace. I held the push-button in while simultaneously forcing gear shift again to reach p. Engine went from full-bore open to a stop. This event was so frightening. Had it occurred minutes earlier I was in commute traffic and in residential area returning home from metro. Pedestrians and schoolkids were in the area. I exited car to run into house, call for help. Damage to garage wall (and laundry area) is substantial, but was minimized to the auto due to a set of four tires against the garage wall which provided some cushion. Bluetooth phone (hands-free car) would not disconnect. I borrowed neighbor's phone to call husband and police/fire. Emergency firetruck team arrived to ensure no gas line break, fairfax police officer also on site. After repeated attempts & long wait times to talk with Toyota, I was told not to move car, wait 10-30 days to investigate. Here sits.

39 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry and I have been complaining about the transmission shifting since about 6 months after I bought it. They told me that they would reflash the computer that controls it and that should fix the problem. It has not. Am I going to have a run away vehicle next? the car drags and then goes fast. They did not seem to do anything, but give me lip service.

40 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/04/2010

We have a 2002 Toyota Camry with a 2. 4 liter engine with a 38, 900 miles in the odometer. And on March 4, 2010 my wife came home from a the grocery store asked me to check the car because of the check engine light iis on. I drove the car for a test drive around our neighborhood for five minutes with the speed of 10 miles to 15 miles an hour. Before I came to the stop sign, the engine start racing, rpm is up the red line, I could hear the engine roar. I step on the brake hard, shift the gear hard into park and turn off the ignition. I was so lucky, I was driving in the right place and the right time with no traffic and kids playing on the street. If my wife would be driving at that moment especially she is an elderly like me, it could be big accident. It's a terrifying experience. I suggest that 2002 Camry should be included in the recall. Before somebody gets hurt. That same day I called Toyota dealership for service appointment.

41 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

My 2007 Camry hesitates when trying to accelerate from a standstill, and rpm keeps dropping from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm for a second and back to 2000 rpm as I'm trying to maintain speed. It could make my car to slide on icy road because of this engine braking, and it happens every time I just touch gas pedal and let go rpm drops and goes back to cruising rpm all in 1 second. This happens as soon as I remove my foot of the gas pedal, causing like braking feeling. I told Toyota dealership in guelph, ontario about this problem but their master service advisor craig allen says that is normal. I believe that there is electronic throttle issue.

42 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that after the vehicle had stopped and the accelerator pedal was engaged, the vehicle hesitated to move forward. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the computer was reset. The failure continued to occur; therefore, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the computer was reset again. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was approximately 36,000.

43 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Two weeks before, I had two recall fixes done for my 2010 Camry (sticky pedal, floor mat entrapment). Although for the initial two days, it looked like maybe it worked, since then the same old problems with the car are persisting. In the past, leading to the recall fix, I had lodged several complaints (including one before the gas pedal recall announcement) with Toyota and their dealer. My car has a weird transmission at speeds 0-45mph. The braking is also not smooth and it does feel like the car is for a second not accelerating when it should or brake when it should. At this time, I have given up on this as it seems to be a waste of time trying to explain my position and get it fixed. A second attempt to reach out to Toyota through their website (since their 1800 support number keeps you waiting forever) - [incident: 100130-000604] on 1/30. There was no response from Toyota on this.

44 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

I have 2007 Camry. While driving between 40 and 60 mph, when I peddled the accelerator the car does not pick up/accelerate. The rpm goes from 2000 to 4000 rpm, and after a couple of seconds of delay car picks up. It's very dangerous, especially, while merging onto a freeway where there is no shoulder lane and you have to merge in really fast. The dealer said it's a problem with the software and they updated the software in my car. I still have the same problem and it occurs frequently in winter. I went to the dealer recently and they said there is nothing wrong with the transmission, it's just the way 2007 models are. In other words, they made a piece of junk in 2007 and now they can not do anything about it. I am hoping to see the recall for this issue soon.

45 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while trying to brake at approx 10 mph, the vehicle began to slide. The contact stated he felt and heard a grinding sound and the transmission shifted into reverse on its own. He was able to get the vehicle to a complete stop. He was able to duplicate the same problem by attempting to brake again and he heard and felt the grinding sound. However the vehicle did not shift into reverse again. He also stated that he could not get the vehicle up the small hill leading to his driveway without removing the snow out of the way first; he believed that the vehicle should have been able to get up the hill as it had front wheel drive. He had not called the manufacturer or the dealer to-date. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 3,399.

46 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

On Feb 10, 2010 my 07 Toyota Camry accel pedal stuck on me, 5 days after the recall was done on it. It revved from 2000-4000 rpms, I had to brake hard for it to stop and regain control. Took it into Toyota, they looked at it, returned the car and told me "nothing was wrong. " on March 4, 2010 it happened again, this time it accelerated from 20 mph to 40 mph in a split second, and I almost hit the car in front of me. Again I had brake hard to gain control of my vehicle. Toyota again looked over my car, and again came up with nothing wrong with my car. So that is two times after the recall was completed that my has accelerated. It also did accelerate before the recall.

47 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and since I bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . For example when I stop at a traffic light and I begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and I could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . Another problem that I have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after I get a bump I have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. Also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,I even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. All this complaint was given to Toyota in priors calls I made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong.

48 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

This is 2009 Toyota Camry. I was getting out of parking garage. As soon as I put my gear to "d" and pressed the gas pedal a little bit, it started to speed up and the gas pad got stuck. I didn't have much room to stop the car and the car hit the pillar in front of me.

49 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

I have a 2005 Camry. The car started off fine and within a minute it did not accelerate even with the gas pedal down all the way. The engine check light was on and I let it idle for 10 mins. It started running fine and there was no longer the check engine light. Now the car was able to accelerate. 4 days later, I stopped at a traffic light and made a turn to the left and the car slowed down and did not accelerate thereafter.

50 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

Constant "jumping" at stoplights. I always have to check to see if someone has bumped into me from behind. This has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the car in 2005.

51 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry se v6. I have experienced since the day I bought it where I can be driving along and when I slow down, the engine will rev and the tachometer will go up to around 4,000 rpm and then what seems like 30 seconds or more, the gears will finally catch and the car will go and all this results in a jerk like reaction giving me a whiplash feeling. It can happen at any speed and the latest experience happened when I was going around 55 mph, on the highway which was very full with traffic. It was very frightening not to mention a main concern as to if the car were to lose power, I would have to somehow coast to the side of the highway and where I was there wasn't much room to pull over.

52 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

I have a 2009 Toyota Camry. On my way home from work around 10:00 pm on 1/25/10. My car shut off while I was driving. I was driving on a two lane road. While pressing on the accelerator and passing a semi truck. As I pulled back into my lane my car just shut off. The check engine and battery light came on. I pulled the car over to the side of the road. And would not start. When I would start the car and put into drive the car would turn off. Then I waited for about 20 minutes. And tired again and it worked just fine and the check engine light turned off. Next day I took it to the dealer and they advised my there might have been some debris in my gas. I always fill up super. I am filling this complaint because I found out today that they are investigating the electrical throttle control on some Toyota's and thought this might be helpful. Thank you.

53 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/22/2010

Driving on snow packed roads to salt lake city. At around 65 miles of driving the transmission went out in my Toyota Camry. We had no warning at all, until the car woud no longer drive and the inside was filling up with smoke. We had to have the Camry towed to a repair shop and then towed back to vernal ut. We took it to a transmission repiar shop and they told us, that a rod had come out of the transmission and the only way it would do that, is to go from a wet road to a dry road. We were on snowy roads the whole time. We have not replaced the transmission, since it will cost us nearly $5,0000. We don't have that kind of money and it is not our fault. We feel that this is a manufactor defect on the transmission. Now I have a 2005 Camry, that I can not drive and am still paying for. If we would have had any indications of the transmission going, we would have taken care of it. But as I said we had no warning. The car just quit going.

54 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

I have been a loyal Toyota owner for 20 years and I would like to tell you about my latest experience with my 2005 Toyota Camry. After 91,000 miles, I needed to get a new transmission. I typically drove my Toyota to 150,000 miles and never had any problems with the power train. I contacted Toyota customer service, they initially said they might be able to help me but never followed up. I tried to contact customer service, but could not get through. I recently had my car repaired for $3300 at aamco to get it drivable. They had to fix the transmission and the wiring to get the car working again. Several electrical connectivity issues existing; and still remain. The only good news was the ecm was operating correctly. Now that aamco fixed my car, ive noticed that my cars about 400 - 600 rpm lower than before. Other problem with the car include dash lights going out after 4 â½ years. Clearly this is not a good situation when it takes several hundred dollars of labor to replace a $2 light bulb. The lights that are out are the fan speed, heat dial and the lights on the dashboard for the shift indicator. I believe there is an electrical issues with the 2005 Toyota Camry that also need investigation.

55 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/19/2010

Sticking gas pedal on my 2009 Toyota Camry hybrid. Caused un-intended acceleration an almost an accident as I was crossing a divided highway near my home. This situation has happened to me at least 6 times in the last 2-3 months. The problem appears to be happening more frequently, where the gas pedal suddenly sticks and the car races out of control. I feel the cars is unsafe to drive.

56 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Transmission issue on 2007 Toyota Camry - when accelerating sometimes the transmission will just rev up and the car just hesitates to get up to speed.

57 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and I feel a vibration between 40 and 42 mph, particularly during highway driving. I have the tires rotated and checked on a regular basis and the road conditions are smooth and dry.

58 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Bought an 2009 Toyota Camry in April, 2009. The engine would run rough and the it felt like the transmission would jerk and did downshift at random. I bought it in for service several times and was told that because my wife and I both drive the car the computer on board was adjusting back and forth to our driving habits. I didn't think it was a safety problem until the recall was announced. Now I look back on my complaints and feel their is something wrong with the electronic or software associated with controlling engine or transmission performance. I have related this to venice Camry in venice florida who have told me their is nothing wrong with my car.

59 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid. The contact was driving approximately 2 mph in reverse on a slight incline in the driveway. The hybrid system overheated warning light and master warning light indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. While pressure was applied on the accelerator pedal there was no power response. Unexpectedly, the vehicle rolled forward with the gear shifter in the reverse position. The engine was turned off. The vehicle restarted after waiting a period of eight to ten minutes and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection on four separate occasions for the identical failures. The technician stated the problem was a natural characteristic of the vehicle. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 34,717.

60 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

My 2010 Toyota Camry rolls back while in drive on a less than 10% incline. It behaves like a stick shift except you can not control the roll with a clutch other than putting your left foot on the brake to keep it from rolling back. I complained to Toyota national and no one responded. The dealership tells me it's normal. Clearly it is not.

61 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/11/2009

Sudden acceleration of a 2005 Toyota Camry solara from a slow moving turn into a parking space.

62 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

Vehicle purchase Nov 2009. 2010 Toyota le Camry. Noticed within first 200 miles that vehicle accelerated and down shifted during turns. Voiced compliant. No action. Recall announced, told had to wait for letter for repair. Brought vehicle back same problem. Then fixed. Vehicle at 1700 miles driving like stick shift car jumps as changing gears. May jump as breaking causing an incomplete timely stop. Currently at 2200 miles driving rough on road and shifting self as driving so power will immediately increase then decrease. Scared to drive new vehicle. Dealership treating me as crazy and that should wait for additional recalls before bringing vehicle in. This has all taken place before initial payment was even made. Very disappointed in quality.

63 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/03/2009

Purchased new 2010 Toyota Camry le , in first week acknowledged to dealership that it was shifting itself slowly like a stick shift. Also quickly accelerating when braking on turns. Told normal let the car break in. Few weeks trouble still continue. Took to dealership, told yes there is recall but need to wait for letter. At 1600 miles accelerator was changed, however vehicle still driving unsafely hard to come to complete stop, takes to long like it is downshifting. Vehicle jumps as driving and is riding rough. Now at 2000 miles and first payment dur not comfortable in car. Single mother that decided it was time to invest in a new car and stop dealing with used car problems has found in two months new car has millions of more issues. Not satisfied and very disappointed. Need another car but not in position to do so. Scared for family safety as many reports show people are being ignored by complaints and are dying.

64 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/22/2009

My 2010 Camry was purchased in sept. 09. In November I noticed a problem when the car is on a slight incline, foot on the break and you take your foot off the break the car rolls backwards. This has happened about a dozen times, when in January I finally took it to the dealer & was told all 10 Camry's do this because of the new 6 speed transmission. The service mgr. & I took the car for a test drive, and we replicated the problem. I told him I didn't think this was normal, that I thought it was a safety issue if someone was behind me in another vehicle and wanted it reported to Toyota - he said he would and would call me back. To date I have heard nothing.

65 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) 2007 Camry accelerates at a whim for 2-3 seconds. It happens very in frequent, the last time about 3-4 months ago. Has been taken to dealer and they state can not do anything, unless it happens or is reproduced for them. I reported this by phone to NHTSA but have not gotten any feed back as I was told I would receive and e-mail and follow up letter. [xxx].

66 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/30/2009

Since the time I bought my new 2010 Toyota Camry, I saw issues with the way the car transmission worked at speeds from 0-50mph. Starting from the first week of my using the car, I went to the dealership a total of 4 times, only to be sent back after a "test drive" saying nothing is wrong. In my own language, I had been explaining the issue which now looks exactly similar to the 'sticking gas pedal" recall recently informed by Toyota. My car was still accelerating while braking, or would start braking when my foot is off the accelerator. I also used to feel a jerk when the car moved between speeds of 0-50mph. I commute 70 miles daily to work and I have noticed this daily to the point that I have started ignoring out of deep frustration. The dealer test drives and causes embarrassment saying they cannot recreate my issue. I logged an incident with Toyota (091214-000053). It led to my fourth visit to the dealer with the same answer. Toyota's response from a case manager was that if they cannot recreate they will not do anything. I almost feel this is a hopeless case as I don't think neither Toyota nor the dealership were truly serious about assisting me. They could have at least informed me that there are some potential issues with their vehicles that they are working on. I reopened a new case (100130-000604). So far I have received no recall notice from Toyota. I don't think they are handling this the right way. I haven't had any major incidents, but I don't think I can wait for that to happen to get the attention of Toyota or its dealer. This is not a Smart way of solving an issue. I feel disappointed, angry and helpless.

67 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/23/2009

I have a 2010 Toyota Camry with automatic transmission, driving in a ramp, the car will slide back down to the bottom if I release my foot from the brake. Many times, in a stop and go situation, I almost hit the car behind me.

68 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/12/2009

Hesitation upon acceleration. Happens every time.

69 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

My 2010 Toyota Camry was purchased in sept '09. In oct. 09, my car was on about a 10 degree incline, foot on the break, when I took my foot off the brake it began to roll back. This has since happened about a dozen times. I took it to metro Toyota in January and was told nothing was wrong. I complained to the service mgr. Who test drove the car with me & replicated the problem. I was told this was normal for the '10 Camry's because of the new 6-speed transmission. I said I did not think this was normal & asked him to refer the problem to Toyota & call me back. Nothing ever happened - so in Feb. I called the service mgr again who called me back a week later & said there is nothing else that could be done.
