Faulty torque converter, shudders at 20-40 mph. Sluggish on gear changes from 3 to 4, Toyota has a warrenty extension for 5/20 or 150000 miles whichever comes first. This car didn't fault until 9/20 and 87,000, well under mileage, but Toyota is in willing to stand by and repair this faulty part.

32 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2015 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/05/2020

I previously made a complaint about my 2015 Toyota Camry. I attached a copy of my complaint to this complaint. I am now experiencing loss of power while I drive from the torque converter shudder issue I am having. Car is shaking rather than a vibration now between speed of 40mph to 50mph. This is unsafe.

33 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/05/2020

When accelerating at around 25 mph, the vehicle "shudders" (feels like it is going over rumble strips) and lasts about 3 seconds. Happens anywhere between 25 - 40 mph. Mechanic said its a faulty torque convertor. Mechanic informed me that there was an "enhanced warranty" that was extended for Camry's 2012-2014 and I should visit the dealership. I sent car to Toyota of turnersville, NJ dealership for fix, and they informed me that the warranty enhancement does not involve my VIN #. Even though its the year and the issue is happening. I opened a case with Toyota headquarters and they closed the case, stating there is nothing they can assist with further. I feel as though this problem originated in 2012, and Toyota was still putting bad torque converters into them in 2014, 2 years later and then stating because my vehicle is not affected by the VIN, there is nothing they can do for me? I bought this car in 2016, now knowing that it came with an issue identified years earlier by the maker. If this problem was potentially serious enough to a widespread issue that they extended the coverage for 8 years, 150,000 miles, they should be willing to cover anyone with a Camry for those 2 years, not just dependent upon a VIN #. It should be dependent upon the issue happening with the car, instead of trying to charge innocent folks $3000 for a fix that they caused!.

34 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

Car starts to shutter and acceleration decreased between 15-45 mph, the shudder causes the car to lag at this time. We began taking the car to the dealership at 30,000 miles for the issue. We were told that they did not see a problem at the dealership. There was a service order to cars software but that still did not fix the issue. We later found out that problem was the torque converter but instead of recalling this Toyota issued a service order, but no notice ever came and the dealer never mentioned when car was took in for regular maintenance. Toyota said that there was nothing they could do about the car and that it would cost about $4000 to replace the transmission. For this car, complaints from numerous customer show that half of the transmissions have needed replaced even after the torque converter was replaced. Toyota has had to recall other vehicles due to this exact same problem but still have not recalled the 2012-2014 Camry. The lag and potential motor mount breaks are a danger while driving this vehicle. Toyota should be forced to make this right as I have almost been rear ended numerous times due to the lag on this car.

35 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2015 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/16/2020

The car has 32k miles on it. When the speed reaches around 32 there's a shudder/vibration which is accompanied by rpm drop before shifting to next gear. When trying to maintain the speed around 42/43 (inner roads), 62/65 (freeways) torque convertor locks up accompanied by lower rpm and the shudder/vibration begins which is clearly felt on gas pedals, steering wheels and doors and feel like driving on bumpy road, the only way to get out of the vibration is to either give more power/acceleration so that it releases lock up and shifts gears (or) just release the gas pedal so that it slows down and comes out of lock-up. When vibration happens, giving power/pressing accelerator will increase the vibration with no increase in speed until it shifts to other gears, checked with a couple of dealers to get an opinion but the answer I am getting is there is no code in the health check and they cannot do anything without any code or check engine light. One technician admitted that its torque convertor lockup vibration. They will not diagnose or perform any other operations without any code or its completely broken. Torque converter replacement will cost around 3k based on dealer info. Based on Toyota's internet forums and other complaints in this seems to be a common problem with torque convertor and Toyota should come forward to replace it or fix it similar to their 2014/2014. 5 models, which are supposed to be fixed with the 2015 models. Thanks.
