36 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/13/2020

My 2012 Camry se 4 cylinder has an issue with its torque converter. My car shudders and has a delay when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. This has been well documented and is known by Toyota. I had my car diagnosed and quoted by Toyota for this issue 17 months ago. I could not afford the $3000 quote at that time. I found out last week that there was an extended warranty for this issue! I call Toyota only to find out that I was 2 months outside of my warranty. I told them I had the car diagnosed and quoted well before the warranty date, but was not informed of the warranty or prevalent issue with this years torque converter. If I had known this I would have had them replace this for free, but I was not informed at that time. I have since contacted Toyota corporate and they have confirmed the issue, but they stated even though it was diagnosed within the warranty time frame and the dealership failed to let me know this was covered, they would do nothing for me. I am very upset this is happening, and very upset that this know issue you see over 50 complaints about on this site, is only remedied with an extended warranty and not a recall. I am being wronged by Toyota and no one will help me, or all of us 2012 Camry owners who where effected by this issue!.

37 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2015 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

My car started a having a vibration/shudder while being driven on the street and freeway from speeds of 25mph to 50mph. This happens every time while driving straight and on turns . I thought maybe it was the transmission but after I looked online to see if anyone else has had this issue I learned there are a lot of people with the same problem. I have the same exact symptoms as they do. Its seems to be the torque converter. I looked up the history of this torque problem and it goes back as far as 2011 for Toyota Camry. I need this fix by Toyota and Toyota should honor given that the issue was not fix from the previous year model.

38 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

While driving on any road between 20 and 40 mph, 3rd and 4th speed, the transmission shudders and while pressing the gas, the vehicle hesitates. Sometimes it is somewhat clear to accelerate, other times it feels like you are fighting a wall that will not move. I believe from what I have read that it has to do with the ecu and a possible faulty torque converter. This should be looked into by the NHTSA proactively, and not left to the individual consumer to see if the issue resolves itself. If the car fails in moving traffic, someone could hit me from behind. At this time, I am having to go from 2nd speed to 4th speed by 40 mph to go around 3rd gear altogether. This is not the way the car should operate. Vehicle is in motion when this happens on any road at any time.

39 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Torque converter is faulty. There was a recall for this on my 2012 Toyota Camry that I was unaware of. The recall was acknowledged by Toyota and only covered 5 years 60,000 miles. 40 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

I thought that buying a Toyota Camry was the right thing to do. Its supposed to be the highest quality. Well I just found out that my torque converter needs to be replaced. Good news/bad news - Toyota has extended the factory warranty on the torque converter, but, only for under 150,000 miles. I have 155,000 miles on my Camry xle. So I called Toyota and wanted to work something out with them. They were nice but in the end they were unwilling to work anything out. Long story short I need to spend $2500 if I want to fix the torque converter. As far as I'm concerned the car is now junk!.

42 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

At 95,000 miles a daily shudder started happening when you first pull out of somewhere and start accelerating usually between 15-45 mph, the shudder causes the car to lag at this time. After researching and taking the car to the dealership we learned that this is a very common problem within the transmission , it is actually software and torque converter failure. Instead of recalling this Toyota issued a service order, but no notice ever came and the dealer never mentioned when car was took in for regular maintenance. The extended warranty was up same month I received the car from my mother in law who is the original owner and took very good care of the car. I called Toyota who informed me there was nothing they could do to help me since the extended drive train warranty had just expired. I have read that half of the transmissions have needed replaced even after the torque converter was replaced. Toyota has had to recall other vehicles due to this exact same problem so why have they not recalled 2012-2014 Camry? the estimates to fix cost almost as much as the car is worth. The lag and potential motor mount breaks are a danger while driving this vehicle. Toyota should be forced to make this right to their many consumers as not many people have thousands of dollars laying around to fix the problem if they survive being rear ended due to the lag and other potential safety issues this may cause. How many complaints are needed to make Toyota fix this with us Camry owners? there is information on cars. Com about the service order that had been issued.

45 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

Vehicle exhibits extreme delay in acceleration, particularly at highway speeds. Gas can be to the floor and there is little to no response for at least one minute, not even a jump in rpm aaa a result of the increased throttle. Trying to merge on to the highway is dangerous when the vehicle remains stuck at 40mph for at least one minute, if not longer. Even once the vehicle has been brought up to speed, trying to change lanes or pass is near impossible as there is little to no response to engaging the throttle. This is dangerous and could easily result in an accident. . I have seen thousands of complaints regarding this issue. Transmission has a generally delayed response, vehicle rolls backwards when transitioning from brake to gas, even on flat ground. This is yet another hazard seemingly brought on by the automatic transmission. Vehicle was part of the torque converter recall. The recall repair was performed and it didn't make any difference for the vehicle. The transmission feels like it is on the verge of failing despite the vehicle still being young and well-cared for. It has always been serviced by a dealership that claims this is normal. The amount of hesitation in the transmission is not and can not be normal. The car drives like its half asleep. It has been getting worse recently and I fear the transmission is going to fail, or the vehicle malfunction is going to result in an accident.

46 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

Car shakes at low speeds, what's told by dealer that it is a torque converter which is not covered for my car. They wanted to charge me thirty nine hundred. 47 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

The vehicle was on the streets and highways at speeds of 30 to 50 mph. The 2014 Camry has an abrupt deacceleration and shudder causing other vehicles following behind me to apply sudden brakes that can cause accidents and injuries to drivers. Prior to purchasing, I contacted richardson TX dealership and provided VIN and mileage 164k to service adviser. Service adviser said no problem, Toyota will cover the torque converter replacement under warranty enhancement. I purchased the vehicle since I was advised it was covered. I brought the car to the dealership for the repair and the dealership said they would not repair the vehicle due to the mileage being over 150,000 miles. I contacted corporate office via phone. Candy, the Toyota representative views my profile on Toyota. Com and confirms VIN and mileage and states it is covered and calls dealership. Dealership tells candy it will not cover the repair cost and corporate will need to absorb the cost. Candy escalates problem to customer relations manager, jonathon. I contacted the Toyota corporate supervisor, monique via phone. Monique asks for cost of repairs from dealership before approving anything. jonathon, the customer relations manager provides the cost to corporate. Then Toyota corporate supervisor, monique denies cost to repair the vehicle. Several days and phone calls and misleading information from dealership and corporate and now I am stuck with a 2014 Camry xle requiring transmission replacement after corporate and dealership personnels provided wrong information. The previous owner was not aware of the warranty enhancement repair and did not submit the vehicle for repairs prior to my ownership. This torque converter malfunction is well documented. It is a safety concern and should be a recall instead of just a warranty enhancement.

48 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2013 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

The car stutters really bad at low speeds, I went to the dealership and they said I was outside of warranty by two weeks but it was the torque converter, I have been having this problem off and on for years but thought it was something small because it wouldn't last long, however for the past 3 months or so it has gotten progressively worse and does it every time, we thought we would have to pay for a diagnostics which is over $100 which is why we didn't take it sooner, however the day that we took it they said it was out of warranty by 2 weeks and when we called Toyota they would not take responsibility for it even though this is a known issue with my year make and model Toyota, just asking for help getting this hazardous and safety issue recalled.

49 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2015 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

2015 Camry has experienced exactly the same torque converter shudder issues described in the 2012-2014 models that were covered under a recall. This year is not covered because Toyota has said they fixed the issue on this year. Started out with shudder around 25-30mph, now it's also happening around 35-45mph, vehicle will also rev out in gear giving no acceleration. Now this car is barely even drivable. The transmission is shifting up to the highest gears even when speed is very low, as though you were driving a manual transmission vehicle at 15mph in fifth gear. The only temporary solutions that helped and now no longer will, were punching the throttle during a shudder to downshift, or downshifting in the manual mode. Unhooking the battery to drain the system power to put the vehicle back into learning mode, which helped for several hours until the vehicle went right back to the same issues. Currently the vehicle limps around with any type of driving, shifts to gears that are too high for the appropriate speed with dangerously sluggish acceleration or none at all, and shudders in two speed ranges.

Took car back to servicing dealer (hoselton Toyota in east rochester, NY) and was told transmission had failed and that replacement was not covered by the warranty enhancement.
