The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. When attempting to accelerate at 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated and then began to accelerate past the intended speed. After repeated brake application she was able to decelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and all of the tires were replaced. After the repair the failure resurfaced. She took the vehicle back to the dealer, and the technician completed a software update. He then added that the rotors were out- of- round and thus needed to be turned. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The technician then concluded that because they could not duplicate the failure, they could not provide a remedy. She inspected her vehicle and noticed that the clips did not properly secure the cover to the air filter housing. The failure mileage was 17000. The current mileage is 31,000. Updated 2/22/10 the consumer stated the vehicle lacked power. The dealer recalibrated the ecm and transmission. Updated 07/09/10.
Brakes clips (shams) have been replaced 2x in less than 35,000 miles. First replacement was at 14,000 miles or so. Vehicle makes loud squealing noise driving at low speeds (5-40mph). At latest repair (March 2008), dealer mechanic stated that they have a service bulletin on them for failure. I am convinced that something is going on with the rotors though---thus affecting the brake pads, shams, etc. Dealer mechanic claims that the clips/shams are of poor quality and that's why they keep failing. I asked what happens if they fail again (I'll be over my warranty)--he stated that I will have to pay for them then. Wow--how nice to have a defective part replaced 2x under warranty, and then Toyota is scott-free if it happens a 3rd time now.

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry in March 2006. This new vehicle had several defects including the replacement of a dash by the dealer after delivery. The quality of the brake rotors on this vehicle are unsatisfactory. I have had the rotors replaced five times. The vehicle has approx. 46,000 miles. I have had two independent repair shops evaluate the factory rotors and they both come to the same conclusion, poor quality rotors. It's not how the vehicle is being operated since we are not causing anything that would cause these rotors to warp the way they do. We do not drive our vehicles hard, just to cause more maintenance expenses. Toyota has paid for replacing the rotors once. They have also charged me twice for the same work and I have paid twice to another auto shop. I tried to file a complaint through Toyota and that was useless. I will never purchase a Toyota vehicle again. Real sad how they were handling my complaint.
My husband & I purchased a 07 Camry. A few weeks after purchase, husband noticed problems. Transmission was not "acting" right. The car would hesitate for a few seconds when we given gas or sometimes accelerate when we did not; the brakes were bad; & steering column "shook" when we drove over road bumps or speeds > than 50. Over next few months when we took the car in for service & voiced our concerns, the service person would tell us that he could not find anything wrong with the car regarding our concerns & during one visit, they drove the car 18 miles & still could not find anything wrong. One day I was getting on freeway & tried to increase my speed, the car stalled for about 4 seconds, as I looked in rear view mirror I saw another car coming behind me at a really fast speed. I was trying to determining what to do as the car appeared to have actually shut off, when it just surged forward & I was moving again. Needless to say, this scared the crap out of me & I called my husband & told him what happened. I felt that if we did not do something, we could potentially have an accident, get killed or kill someone else. I finally called the corporate office & told them our story. They instructed us to take the car to the service dept for an assessment. After assessment the mechanic told me that my steering column needed to be replaced; my rotors were completely warped; and they may have to overhaul my transmission but were going to try & reset it to see if that would help (apparently it is run by a compt which tells it how fast or slow it to go when the accelerator is pressed) apparently the computer was not functioning properly or had a "glitch. " they reset the transmission & told my husband & I to drive an additional 500miles to "break-in" the transmission & let them know our thoughts. Well, we have driven the additional miles & we both feel as if the transmission is slipping again. We are at wits end w/this dangerous $30,000+ car.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Camry. While driving 80 mph, the brakes failed. The contact was forced to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. He stated that he heard a grinding noise prior to the failure. The dealer replaced the front and rear brakes at the contact's expense. The current mileage was 52,400 and failure mileage was 51,840.

Rear right tire shows early worn-out, car skids to the right, it can be felt on the right rear again. It's been happening since the car was bought in April, 05. The dealer could not see anything wrong. Only the rear right brake plate shows "slope and hill" sign. Warp???
it is hard to shift from park sometimes, brake must be pressed again and again or the car mush be pushed slightly. All other things are fine.

The contact stated on two occasions the brakes would not stop his vehicle. There was a pulsation when he applied the brakes. The first time the brakes failed the contact's vehicle hit a vehicle that stopped in front. The dealer examined the vehicle, and said there was no problem with the brakes. After the second incident he replaced the rotors. He found that a crack had formed on the old rotors. He believed the crack was the reason for the vehicle not stopping when the brakes were applied. Updated 11/16/2005 -.

02/23/04, dealer's invoice tocs12154: 04/19/04, dealer's invoice tocs14794. The cd and tape player went bad before the car was two years old. I did not discover this until there was 37,000 miles on the car. The warranty ran out at 35,000 miles. The cd/tape player part of the radio was not even used for a couple of months, so I was not aware there was a problem until after the warranty expired. The dealer charged me $250. 00 for a "used" radio they ordered from the manufacturer (a new radio was going to cost $850. 00). They were kind enough to not charge me for the installation. Since Toyota does not make the radios installed in their vehicles, Toyota would not help me with my problem. 03-08-04, dealer's invoice tocs12900:I have a problem with the brake system that concerns me more than the radio malfunction. There is a viabration when I slow down to stop the car. I took my car to the dealer to have this checked. They recommended that the front rotors be turned (for $170. 00) and that the rear brake drums be resurfaced (for $127. 50) by the time the dealer checked this for me, the car had 38,363 miles. The warranty expired at 35,000 miles! neither the dealer nor Toyota will do anything about the brakes. They considered it to be "normal" wear an tear. I have never had a radio go bad in any other car I have owned. My Subaru imprezza is over 10 years old! the imprezze still had its original brakes!.

1. Loud creaking and rattles: after many attempts at repairs, the problem finally turned out to be a manufacturing defect. They left plastic assembly guides in place, which they had to remove by removing the window again (this was a super secret service bulletin that was divulged only when the customer engineer for new england showed up). But he dealership managed to chip the paint in the process, requiring the roof to be repainted. Once the creak was gone, the interior rattles were unbearable from all the quality work completed. 2. Transmission issue: I've been assured by the service manager at me dealership that it is normal the transmission take at least a mile shift out of second gear when below 30â°f and to a lesser degree during warm weather. The car won't shift into third or overdriven until after least 1-2 minute of driving, no matter what speed. 3. Transmission issue: when lifting off the throttle from 60 to 55mph on a downhill, there's a "hitch" or bucking where the transmission abruptly catches, then releases. Almost like it down shifting, but it stops half way. This has been an annoying problem since day one. The bucking problem is annoying and problematic. It was solved by reset the computer and showed up again at 42,000 miles. They are blaming it on the adaptive micro-processor and my driving style. (warranty) 4. Door rattles: driver's side and passenger side doors rattle/tick when going over bumps. I asked the service manager that was let go about the rattle, and he explained it's normal for new Camry's to have the doors make that make noise. Constant use of silicone was advised by the dealership. 5. Airbag recall 6. Passenger seat replacement due to poor construction and squeaking 7. Check engine light for defective charcoal canister 8. Warped front brake rotors 9. Pealing chrome on passenger door handle. (warranty) 10. Flaking paint on exterior door handles. * cb.
Severe vibration in steering when brakes applied 20+ months after purchase. Brought to dealer, deformed rotors, machined front disc brakes & replaced pads. When braking after this, vehicle pulled to the left. 24 months later had same severe vibration/brakes again. Researched complaints NHTSA site. . Many have same complaint to dealer again & they wanted to charge me $99 to diagnose. I said no & the mgr steve said we don't charge that fee for brakes. I advised I knew of TSB's issued for this car & shouldn't have same problem from 2 yrs ago. He said only 1 yr warranty on prev work, but he would take a look. He said my rotors were warped & could not be machined again, only replaced, however brake pads are replaced when they are 2 ml & mine were at 7-8, & safe so either replace rotors & pads $469 live w/ vibration until pads worn down to 2 ml then do brake jobe. I advised I knew of TSB's for this problem & he said he already checked & there aren't. I said check again & after waiting told me there was a TSB but it had expired but in an act of "good will" he would order the part and do the repair to both front brakes free. I made an appt & went for repair. Repair order said only one side rotor and pad replaced. Now when I approach hgwy speed of 60-65 mph, steering wheel shimmies. People are having accidents due to these brake problems according to NHTSA complaints & nothing is being done! I worry someone will be hurt because this problem is not deemed worthy of a recall. The design of the brakes is a problem.
Brakes have a pulsation in brake pedal when stopping. Front rotors were out of round, lateral out of round and rear drums needed to be machined. Took it back to the dealership on four occasions and the problem still exists. Also, when stopping at various speeds, motor makes a fluttering sensation.
There is serious vibration in the front brakes. Every time the consumer applies the brakes the vehicle will shake and so will the steering wheel. Can hear a noise coming from the front brakes. Noticed this problem on August 1, 2003. Contacted the dealer, and had to change the calipers and the rotors. Have had the rotors replaced , then shaved them twice, and the dealer wanted to charge the consumer for repairs.
Both rear brake discs were grooved after 4000 miles of use. Dealership turned rotors. Problems still existed with noise. Took to second dealer and they turned discs (second turning) diagnosis: warped discs. My conscern is the safety of the rear brakes new, as well as after the remedy (turning). Customer service rep. From first dealer stated that there have been many complaints about noise, but it is perfectly safe.
I am the original owner of a 1999 Toyota solara (purchased March 1999). Last month with 34,825 miles on it, I had to have the front rotors and brake pads replaced for the second time. The first time was in June 2001 with 22,125 miles on the vehicle. Both times, the dealer blames excessive rust and runout on the rotors as the cause of serious steering wheel vibration when braking. They claim I do not drive the car and use the brakes enough. The solara is garage kept and gets at least as much use as any other car I have owned and I have never had to have any brakes and rotors replaced for this reason and four of the cars I owned for a period of nine years each. Two of those sat outside their entire existence and averaged a grand total of three to four thousand miles/year. I have tried dealing with the dealer rep and he and the regional service manager tell me there is nothing they should do about it and I should expect to be doing this again every two years. This does not seem right to me and so far I have gotten the response from customer service that they stand behind the opinions of their dealer service techs. Even after repair, I get some vibration in pedal and steering wheel at times. Have also had problems with antilock brakes. Just today I had to avoid an accident as a car pulled out in front of me and antilock released braking causing a longer braking distance than necessary. One day when stopping at a traffic light in good weather conditions on a smooth surface, anti-lock kicked in and released braking power. I wound up with the whole front end of the car in the intersection. I was only going about 30-35 mph as I was in a residential area. I was lucky no one was coming. Any time you try to stop on a rough surface, it can be an adventure. You always have to remember to keep extra distance with this car. Anytime brought up to dealer, they said could not duplicate and this is the way antilock brakes are supposed to work.

I went overseas for two months and returned which I do frequently and will in the future. I had the car parked and no one drove the vehicle and it only has approximately 7,500 miles on the odometer. I went to apply the brakes for the first time and the vehicle surged back and forth and almost crashed. The brakes catch" and then release in a severe lunging motion and the car is not safe to drive. After speaking to the dealer, I was told that there is rust buildup and it would not be under warranty and I must pay for the repairs. In all my 30 years of driving I have never heard of such a thing and consider the braking system or parts inferior and their should be a warning about this problem or it could be potentially a fatal situation. I have had vehicles sit around for long periods of time and have never had such a problem such as this. So it seems that after going away and returning to drive this $23k vehicle, I must pay for repairs every time. I will not drive this vehicle and am looking into legal action.
When attempting to accelerate (pressing gas pedal), vehicle will not speed up for several seconds, and then it abruptly lunges forward at an increased speed, posing a safety hazard. This has happened repeatedly starting within a couple of days of buying the car. This is particularly concerning when driving on an expressway ramp. Thus I have been avoiding driving on the expressway. Also, the brakes work abnormally. There was excessive vibration, jerkiness, and brake sensitivity. I took the car to the dealer within 5 days of purchase and subsequently returned it 4 more times. They only acknowledged that the rotors were warped and resurfaced them. Otherwise, they deny there is any other problem. They blamed the acceleration problem on the a/c being turned on. However, the problem persists regardless to whether the accessories are turned on or off or how high they are turned on.
The front brake rotors were worn, which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance. Also check engine light has been on since 45,000 miles.

The front disk brake rotors are repeatedly warping despite normal driving habits, causing shaking of steering wheel when braking and possibly compromising vehicle stopping ability. First occurrence was at 7,000 miles, second at 15,000, third at 27,000. Rotors were resurfaced at first two occurrences to temporarily correct problem. Toyota warranty service only provides for resurfacing rather than part replacement. Is this problem due to defective rotor materials and/or faulty brake system design?.

While applying the brake pedal vehicle pulsated and vibrated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that front rotors needed to be replaced, and replaced them twice. However, the problem recurred.
Rotors broke off and went into front wheel, and wheel stopped moving, and consumer lost control of vehicle.
While driving 55 mph there was vibration in front end. Vehicle slowed down on its own. Smoke was coming from front passenger's wheel. Dealer replaced front rotors and turned drums.
While driving stepped on brake pedal while approaching a stop sign and brakes made noise, like grinding metal to metal. Dealer had said that problem was from manufacturer where rotors were built too closely to vehicle body.
