I have had a problem with my 2003 Camry since the day I bought it. The antilock brakes kick in for no obvious reasons, even for small bumps/potholes and I loose control of stopping the car. Luckily I have not gone into any accident, but it is scary. Now my 17 year daughter is getting her license and I am scared that she might not know how to control the situation. Dealer says there is no problem with 2003 Camry braking system. . Read more...

2010 Toyota Camry. Consumer requests assistance with a reconsideration of interest rate and repair issue with vehicle
the consumer stated she took the vehicle to the dealer due to a noise that was occurring right after she started the vehicle and put it in drive. The noise existed from the time she purchased the vehicle. The explanation she received was that all Camry's made that noise as it came from the braking system engaging. The consumer requested to ride in another Camry to compare the sounds as her vehicle was very loud. The service manager was unable to locate the same braking system on the lot. The service manager then stated he would open a technical assistance system case and when a specialist was in the area, they would have him inspect the vehicle. The manager contacted the consumer and informed her, the specialist would not be inspecting the vehicle as they had received several complaints and they determined the problem to be the abs actuator, but there was no fix at the moment.

2007 Toyota Camry. Consumer states problem with abs brake system. The consumer stated he was in driving in high speed traffic in the left lane, following a safe distance traveling about 65 mph when a car from the right lane suddenly cut in front of him. He applied the brakes in a panic stop, but the vehicle instantly spun around to the right barely missing another car in the right lane and headed for a group of trees off the grassy right hand shoulder of the road. He was able to gain control by releasing the brake and steering out of the spin. But, he overcorrected and crossed the high speed traffic again, and almost t-boned another vehicle and ended up in a ditch in the median of the highway. The consumer stated he did not steer into the spin, he kept the steering wheel straight and jammed on the brakes in an absolutely necessary panic stop. The right front wheel instantly and totally locked up; there was a cloud of blue smoke coming from the right wheel and the vehicle pivoted on that wheel and headed toward the right shoulder. The consumer stated the problem was due to a failure with the abs and not a steering problem. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem with the abs.

I own a Toyota Camry 2004, and just bought Toyota Camry 2007. Camry 2004 worked fine in the beginning, but since last year the brakes felt too soft. I took it Toyota dealership many times, but they always said that it was normal. But I drove it everyday, so I know that it was not normal. I could not go above 60 mph on highway because I could not depend on the brakes, especially in winter. I got lucky and avoided accidents almost 10 times because of this brakes. It just won't work on time. I didn't know what to do with this car. So when time came for me to buy the new car, I went to Toyota and tried out new 2007 Camry and bought it. I bought 2007 Camry only because I liked the brakes. I even told the staff of the dealership the same thing too. But within in few weeks I took it back to dealership because brakes started becoming soft. I needed to know how could this be fixed. 2007 Camry which I still drive isn't as bad as 2004. But I can't say it for sure that it won't happen in future. How can I have this brakes fixed? there is something wrong with them. It is not normal , they say it is.

2004 Toyota Camry - the front breaks with abs do not work properly. I have has several occasions where the breaks have failed to stop the car on snow - the abs system pulsates too fast. This has happened on a dry road at a turn as well. Please, please, please - try to address this defect before someone get's killed.
Applied brakes to make a sudden stop at 25 mph. The brakes went all the way to the floor(spongy) and also abs got activated but did not stop. It hit vehicle in front and stopped without any damage. This happened couple of times earlier, but not involved any accident. Before this accident, got the brakes adjusted 3 times at dealer for low pedal. After the repair was done, the brakes still remained the same. On bumpy roads abs gets activated directly. I paid fine for the accident for Toyota flaw. Will get rid of this Camry if Toyota does not recall.
I have a 2006 Toyota camery. I have had issues with the brakes every since I got the car. The anti-lock brakes don't work the way that they should. When you press on the brake hard like you would in an emergency the car will not stop at all its as if the brakes go completely out. But if you press them slowly they work fine. But if you give a quick press they don't work. This has resulted in me almost having several accidents. I did have an accident in November 2006. When I pressed the brakes they completely gave out and I hit someone from behind.
When I pressed on my brakes while turning into a store ront my car would not stop. My car ran into the storefront.
My car accerated when the brake went down almost to the floor. I have noted that prior to this there was an accident in the la area. In that accident there where people injured. Last week there was an accident involving the same type and year car and there was one death in this one. What happened to me as I was pulling into a parking space I applied the brake and the brake went down and my edge of my shoe caught the accelerator pedal and my car went part way on the curb. Had there been a car in front of me I would have hit it. I took my car to Toyota and they checked it out and said it was ok. I now try to watch out for any brake problems but this a worrie to me and my wife.
: the contact stated at various speeds while depressing the brake pedal there was excessive braking distance resulting in two rear end collisions. The first occurrence caused injuries to the other driver and a police report was taken. The vehicle was towed to a body shop each time for repairs. The dealer was not able to duplicate the problem.
: the contact stated that while braking from a speed of 25 mph, there has been a moment of resistance in the brake pedal, then the pedal depresses to the floor. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the problem was determined to be a normal occurrence with antilock brake systems in the newer models.
: the contact stated while applying the brakes, the abs activated at low speeds causing the brake pedal to go to the floor.
I have noticed my 2006 Camry xle has not stopped as quickly as the 1995 v6 Camry I previously owned. The instance this has been most dangerous is when I had 3 grandchildren in the back of my car and a passenger in the front. I applied brakes while going about 45 mph behind a flatbed truck. The brakes did not stop the quickly enough, and we almost ran into the back of the vehicle. Also, if I try to stop quickly at a yellow light, the car cannot stop quickly enough. I end up either in the middle of the intersection or running a light to avoid being hit. The car only has 1250 miles.
I have a 2006 Toyota Camry with 1700 miles on it. I had problems with the brakes 3 times and have had the car only 8 months. When I try to stop it seems the engine races and the brakes won't stop the car. The first time I went through a stop sign. The second time I was pulling out of a parking lot and the car kept going and was almost hit by a semi-truck. The third time I was stopping for a light and the car sped up. I had my foot on the brakes so I put it in park but it didn't stop and I rear ended a van. The police would not let me drive the car home. Oak lawn Toyota said I had to have the car towed to my house for them to come out and inspect it. They just wanted me to pay the $300 fee. Toyota came to the dealer to inspect it over 3 weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything. I am afraid to drive the car. I only drive it when I have to take my 90 year old father to the grocery store.
Weak brakes.
I own a 2001 Toyota Camry le. I have owned the car for approx 11 months. In August my son while leaving the beach claimed the abs breaks locked up causing him to slide into a pole in the parking lot. Neither air bag was deployed but there was over 6000 damage. The mechanic said it was a low impact hit . . . The car was repaired and breaks checked and said to be working. Now just 7 months from that accident I was driving in a snow storm and despite my best driving I too experienced the abs breaks actually locking . . . On a hill in the snow causing my car to fish tail and all the while gaining speed leaving me with no way to slow down my passenger watch the speedometer go from 15. . . To 30. . . To 35 which is when he closed his eyes as I made one last attempt to steer the car straight we went off the road wiping out 2 or 3 small trees, a metal pole luckily there was a rather large rock under the snow that got stuck under the tail end of the car leaving the car "nose" end into the ground. Neither air bag deployed once again. The drivers side light was completely torn out, the tires came partially off the rim and the frame is now twisted the impact was defiantly over 30 mph with no air bag deployment. The anti- lock bakes . . . Locked and had they not I would not have fishtailed . . . This is the second accident my car has had due to the break system. This one totaled my car. Which I owe 11,000 on . . .

My 2004 Toyota Camry's abs breaks can't stop on icy road. Pls. Tell toyata not to install those abs breaks in snowy states, not safe for driver or pedestrian.
: the contact stated while attempting to exit the snow covered driveway at a low speed, the brake pedal was depressed and the brakes locked up causing the vehicle to skid out of control. The vehicle was recovered and towed to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem.
2001 Toyota Camry was involved in an accident and none of the air bags deployed. When the consumer attempted to stop the vehicle abruptly the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle did not slow down. As a result the vehicle collided with another vehicle.
Brake too low. You have to step hard on the brake almost to the floorboard to stop the car. Nearly rear-ended car on freeway at 65 mph. Brake is supposed to be halfway down, not almost to floorboard.
Faulty brake system.
Pulling out of a mall had my foot on the brake instead of it slowing down the vehicle surged forward. This happened before, at first just thought it was consumer but this was the second time this happened. Vehicle was repaired.
Contact states: she went to park the car, was applying the brake and the brake would not hold. Then, consumer's vehicle hit another car, and brakes did not hold. It also hit another car, and the brakes still did not work. . She was traveling at a very low speed. Dealership checked all related components, but nothing was found.
Dt contact stated the vehicle surged forward on two different occasions. When putting the foot on the brakes to slow the vehicle down and to come to a stop, the vehicle surged forward. The first time this happened it caused the contact's vehicle to rear end another vehicle. The vehicle is at the dealers now. At this point the dealer is not sure what is wrong with the vehicle.
The consumer states the brakes are defective. When the brakes are applied they idle and have to be applied again. After the brakes have been reapplied the vehicle moves forward. The dealer was contacted. They said the vehicle was moving forward because the air conditioner (a/c) was in use. The consumer claimed that he was not using the a/c now and that the vehicle was still moving forward. The manufacturer has not been contacted. Updated 12/07/05.
There is a serious problem with the brakes on the 1997 Toyota Camry. The brakes on the vehicle does not last for more than three months, and less.

When driving and going down hill brakes were hard, and a noise could be heard. Consumer was driving in the ice and snow on both occasions. Vehicle went into a fish tail, almost causing a collision. Dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.
Failure of abs on 2002 Toyota Camry. This problem caused an accident. Toyota blamed the incident on worn tires.
While braking brake pedal went to the floor. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The contact stated the vehicle experienced defective braking system,a because pressing the brakes very hard over a period of months resulted in the contact suffered from pain foot, leg and hip pain. The dealership and the manufacturer have been contacted, and they stated nothing was wrong with the vehicle. Also, the amount of pressure required to stop the vehicle or to press the brakes was causing dimension stopping capacity. She know longer drove the vehicle because of the pain, and the constant fear of being in an accident.
