Have very serious concerns with abs system on this automobile. These brakes on numerous occasions over the ownership of this car, including today (my wife driving), have acted extremely erratically, with excessive pulsating and chattering performance that I would not qualify as a rotor issue. This problem has occurred a minimum of 30-50 times since the car was new, has been reported on at least two occasions to the dealer (bernardi. Framingham, MA) during routine service, and has been discounted as a non-problem. I disagree, and am to the point that I feel this problem could lead to a serious automobile accident if not corrected.
Whenever I applied the brake pedal at low speeds between 1-30 mph as approaching an intersection, a stop sign or an immediate brake the transmission switches gears, and the rpms increased. The brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor and the car jolted forward, and did not stop until the brakes were applied again. Fortunately, I have not had an accident. Others have. I have had the defective brake problem since I bought the car new in 2004. I had the dealer's repair technicians drive the car on multiple occasions, they said they were not able to recreate the problem. This was not how anti-lock brakes were supposed to work. Toyota needed to research this defect thoroughly and announce a recall before others get hurt or killed.

While driving consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Another vehicle crashed into consumer's vehicle head on. Upon impact, both air bag did not deploy. The seat belt broke, causing it to hit the glass windshield. Visor inside of the vehicle sheared off and fell onto of the driver head and caused a deep scar on top of the driver 's forehead. The driver was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

Sudden vehicle acceleration while pulling in to a parking space, resulting in a crash into a tree, despite the fact that the anti-lock brake system was activated. Significant vehicle damage, but no injury. A second occurrence while stationary; no vehicle damage, just very discomfited owners. Additional details in cc'd correspondence addressed to Toyota, dated 6-Dec-04.
Brakes on vehicle are unusually soft and require an abnormal amount of travel before they engage.
When the brake pedal was depressed to slow down or stop the vehicle the anti-lock brakes engaged. This made it difficult to stop or slow down the vehicle; which almost causd several accidents. The dealership has performed a diagnostic test , but no failure code was found. The dealership indicated that that was the way the abs was suppose to operate.
After hearing the brakes squeak, thereafter they did not hold as effectively, however, the brakes were not inspected.
I was driving north on route 93 in my 2003 Toyota Camry during rush hour traffic when traffic went from approx. 40 mph to a sudden stop. The cars in front of me all jammed on there brakes and successfully stopped, but when I stepped on my brakes, I could feel the brake pedal compressing and doing something, but I was unable to barely even slow down from approx. 3 car lengths away. I hit the car in front of me and my car crumbled. My 2 complaints are that the brakes definitely have a malfunction along with the air bags not deploying. Luckily, I had my seat belt on. The road conditions were dry and weather was sunny and clear. After this accident and my car has been repaired, I will be trading my car in and never buy a Toyota again.
I stepped on the brakes of my 2003 Toyota Camry to slow down in preparation of a lane change while I was traveling at highway speed (approx. 50mph) during rush hour on I-15 northbound, a major las vegas highway (4 lanes wide + shoulder and exit lane). To my surprise the abs brakes kicked in and shuddered underfoot. I was not attempting a full stop and had not attempted to stop short. I removed my foot from the brakes (foot was not on any pedal) but the abs remained engaged and there was a sense of both acceleration and deceleration simultaneously. I immediately tried again to engage the brakes when my steering wheel locked. I was completely shocked by this occurrence but remained calm while in disbelief my car began to skid uncontrollably around the extremely congested freeway. As my power steering was disabled I could barely avoid several collisions as I tried to firmly engage my brakes. I prayed to god to watch over me and held on to the steering wheel for dear life. My car was veering but not slowing as it should until finally my car struck another vehicle. The impact sent my car into a full 360â° turn. Finally the car came to a stop with me facing oncoming traffic. My car sustained substantial damage but my airbag did not deploy. No safety warning lights came on in my car prior to the accident. I am extremely lucky that both the driver of the other car and I were able to walk out of our cars unassisted after the accident, though both of us had neck/shoulder/back strain later. Nevada highway patrol was on scene and took a report. I have requested a full safety investigation and am awaiting response from Toyota corporation.
While driving another vehicle veered into consumer's vehicle lane, consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor, causing vehicle to collide into the guard rail and crash. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Driver sustained injuries. Vehicle was towed to the dealer.

Break pedal goes all the way to the floor. Car takes an excessive distance to stop from freeway speeds. Dealer says all 2004 Toyota Camrys do this. They say there is no problem. Lets do something before someone dies instead of after someone dies.
When abs brakes are applied consumer can feel it, then it will disengage, and the vehicle will continue to move forward. Consumer took vehicle to dealer numerous times and was told that the brakes were operating as designed.
While driving at 30 mph and applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. Resulting in extended stopping. Dealer inspected the vehicle several times, and indicated that vehicle operated as designed by the manufacturer.
Vehicle failed to respond when consumer depressed the brake pedal. Vehicle experienced unwanted acceleration, resulting in vehicle crashing into bushes and cement embankment.
The brake pedal was defective. The brakes did not grabb like they should, they almost went to the floor. Manufacturer was no notified, however the dealer found no defects.
My abs brakes fade intermittentl but only with the a/c on. They fade occasionally during stops and light pressure on pedal. They also feel spongy all the time. Dealer tells me that there is nothing wrong and, all the above, are normal operation.
My wife was slowing for a stop sign off a highway exit ramp when"the brakes did not stick and the car lurched foreward' striking a stopped vehicle. She told the police she was only going 5-10mph at most, but the other vehicle suffered over $500. 00 in damages. This was in good road conditions where she travels daily. Prior to this I had told the dealer that the brakes felt mushy and rarely gave confidence. The service records state the following:complaint-brake pedal travels a long way to stop. Reply-brakes function as designed. Normal travel for this type of brake system. [3000 miles later] complaint-brake pedal feels like it loses pressure when stopping. Worried car will not stop at times. Reply-improper adjustment rear drum brake. Obviously there is more wrong than an out of adjustment rear brake. Either the brake system or a combination of the brake system and acceleration system are faulty in this vehicle.
When applying the brakes on my 2002 Toyota Camry, the car continues to lunge forward. I almost hit a school bus this morning.
I purchased a 2003 Toyota Camry on 7/14/03. When my son rode with me on 3/18/04 and 3/26/04, he heard a clicking noise that I was unable to hear. I took it to the dealer on 3/26/04. The car has about 4000 miles. The problem was first diagnosed as a bearing in a rod. They received permission from Toyota to pull out the engine and found another rod to be bad. They then determined the crankshaft was faulty. I have also read the comments on the brakes. Although I have never had the pedal go to the floor, the pedal does depress further than with other cars. These are anti-lock brakes.
While making a right turn at 5 mph, the vehicle hesitated, then it accelerated on its own. This caused the vehicle to hit the curb. The problem was with the antilock brakes.
Consumer will provide details information on the abs brake system problem.
02/23/04, dealer's invoice tocs12154: 04/19/04, dealer's invoice tocs14794. The cd and tape player went bad before the car was two years old. I did not discover this until there was 37,000 miles on the car. The warranty ran out at 35,000 miles. The cd/tape player part of the radio was not even used for a couple of months, so I was not aware there was a problem until after the warranty expired. The dealer charged me $250. 00 for a "used" radio they ordered from the manufacturer (a new radio was going to cost $850. 00). They were kind enough to not charge me for the installation. Since Toyota does not make the radios installed in their vehicles, Toyota would not help me with my problem. 03-08-04, dealer's invoice tocs12900:I have a problem with the brake system that concerns me more than the radio malfunction. There is a viabration when I slow down to stop the car. I took my car to the dealer to have this checked. They recommended that the front rotors be turned (for $170. 00) and that the rear brake drums be resurfaced (for $127. 50) by the time the dealer checked this for me, the car had 38,363 miles. The warranty expired at 35,000 miles! neither the dealer nor Toyota will do anything about the brakes. They considered it to be "normal" wear an tear. I have never had a radio go bad in any other car I have owned. My Subaru imprezza is over 10 years old! the imprezze still had its original brakes!.
Consumer was attempting to park the vehicle in a parking lot, pressed the brakes, and vehicle jumped the curb and collided with a tree. There were no injuries, nor was there a police report.
While driving at about 35 mph, I placed my foot on the brake to slow down a bit. The car did not slow down, instead it speed up to about 75 mph. I hit the brakes harder, but the car would not stop. I quickly pulled on the hand brake and shifted the gear to park, then shut off the engine. I hade the vehicle towed to a Toyota dealer. The dealer could not duplicate the problem, so they were not able to make a repair. I have also filed a complaint with Toyota.
When braking vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit two other vehicles.
Automatic braking system (anti-skid) activated prematurely on two occasions.
As I was driving up the driveway of my home/house and in the process of applying the brakes to my 2003 Toyota Camry the car surged forward impacting the from of my brick house and going into the master bedroom causing extensive damage to the house and to personal property inside the bedroom, also the car suffered great damage to the front up to and including complete brekage and collapse of the winshield for a total car damaged of close to $8. 000. 00 dollaras and over $5,000. 00 damage to the house not including the damage done to the interior of the bedroom and its contents. Extimates of the cost of repairs still going on.
The brakes had to be pressed to the floor before the vehicle would stop. As a result, the vehicle continued to go through an intersection. On another occasion the consumer attempted to stop, but ended up rear ending another motorist and consequently there was 2,500 worth of damage to the consumes vehicle.

Consumer stated the brakes locked when he attempted to stop at a toll booth. This caused a rear end collision upon impact, air bags did not deploy consumer sustained a bruised chest, and consumer's wife sustained 2 two broken ribs. Consumer stated that when he hit the vehicle in front it was as if the vehicle accelerated, and even though he had feet on the brakes, vehicle kept going. He states that he pushed the vehicle in front of him, immediately cut the ignition off, put on emergency brakes, and coasted to the side of the road. Vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder. He says that the only thing that saved he and his wife was the seat belts. Consumer stated he saw on tv that Toyota was recalling 2002-2003 Camrys for excessive acceleration.
While making left turns and without any warning steering wheel and brake pedal locked up. As result, consumer was involved in a head on collision, and air bags did not deploy.
While driving at 25 mph and entering a turn lane consumer pressed the brakes and vehicle never slowed down. But, surged forward, and collided with the vehicle in front. There were no injuries. There is a federal investigation concerning this problem.
