Rodents have discovered the soy compound used to insulate the wires. My daughter has had to replace wiring twice in the last month. The damage to the wiring results in engine and transmission issues including stalling. This is as dangerous as the issues affecting gm cobalts.

Within approximately two minutes of a cold start had just made a left turn in the neighborhood. Was accelerating through approximately 20 mph when the car stalled. Rpm dropped from 2,000 to near zero and speed dropped from 20 to approximately 10. The stall lasted a few seconds and then the engine speed increased and the car drove fine from there. This is the third time this has happened in three weeks.

I was traveling approximately 26mph into an intersection and my car started slowing down for no reason. As I entered the intersection, I started pushing down on the accelerator to get out of the way of the other cars trying to get through the intersection. As I kept pumping on the accelerator my transmission apparently down shifted into a lower gear and the car took off in a giant leap forward, almost broad siding the car that was passing in front of me. My car has continually stalled many times since then. I reported the problem to Toyota where I bought the car, they said they had never heard of such a thing before. I'm not sure what to do now?.

The gas and brake pedals are to close together. I have a size 13 eee shoe and I have to be very careful to not step on the gas and brake at the same time which has caused unintended acceleration "several times" which luckily did not involve another car. Toyota says they have software installed to prevent this but, it is not helping me. They claim the car is working as designed. I'm a 65 year old professional truck driver with 3. 5 million safe miles. I have driven 100's of cars and trucks and never had this problem before. I also own a 2010 Toyota prius and don't have this problem with it! this is my wife's car. I would trade it if it was mine!.
Recently I experienced two events which started me thinking about one safety feature of the new automobile ignition systems. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry which has an ignition key (?) which does not have to be inserted into an ignition keyhole for starting the engine. One has to push the start/stop button while depressing the brake pedal to start the engine, and just have to push the start/stop button to turn off the engine. (this is now standard for most new vehicles. ). On two recent occasions I parked my car and walked away without pushing the start/stop button. I did not realize what I did for two reasons: (1) the engine runs extremely quietly, (2) more importantly, I was not required to turn off the engine by turning the ignition key which is something that I have been doing almost subconsciously. On both occasions I did not come back until about half an hour later to discover that the engine was not turned off. The safety issue arises from the following scenario. Suppose I came back home at night, parked the car in the garage under the house, gone inside the house and retired for the night. The presence of the key in my pocket does not guarantee that the car is not idling. This is the big change brought on by the new ignition keys. The engine running in the garage can create an extremely dangerous carbon monoxide poisoning situation for the inhabitants of the house. A simple solution to this possible carbon monoxide build-up problem would be to install an automatic engine shut-off feature in the car after a certain amount of time (~20-30 minutes) that the engine has been idling. When I contacted Toyota they said that such a feature does not exist in my model of the car. I hope you will study this possible safety problem and come up with a feasible solution.
Tl * the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 148,000.
This complaint is similar to complaint #10545567. The Camry experiences spurious or intermittent acceleration hesitation and sometimes stalls when acceleration is needed. This is a potentially dangerous condition especially in when entering a highway or accelerating onto an interstate. Dealer has been notified several times about the situation, but because this is an intermittent condition, the dealer doesn't see it and claims cannot diagnose the condition.
I bought this vehicle on September 2012 just for my usual commute of 20 miles per day. The first few months just about 1000 miles on the odometer I started to experience stalling anytime I slow down on traffic or turning. I thought because it new vehicle but it keep on until my first oil change about 5000 miles when I complained to the dealership; there is no any code and I was referred back to the dealership that I bought; second oil change no problem found. Now it stalls almost any time that I am driving it, I did open a case (case #: 1309201533) with Toyota north America, and I got call from their regional representative today that because there is no code, Toyota cannot resolve the problem because there is no any code to diagnostic. I am afraid, this will cause an accident to me and my family because I have nine and seven years old who always sit at the back, and if the car was to stall us on highway, it will be a serious disaster for my family. Please, I will like Toyota to take the vehicle with a complete diagnostics or replace it completely as I am paying for it as at now. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning as smoke emerged from the engine. The vehicle then caught on fire from under the hood. The fire was contained by the fire department and a police report was filed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified. The arms of the motor mount are defective causing the vehicle to shake heavily at a stopped position or even stall when vehicle is in reverse with the brake slightly released. My previous 1999 Camry had the same issue. The dealership replaced, in August 2011, one of the arms on my 2009 Camry due to cracks in the mount yet the issue is re-occurring again.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry. The contact was driving 10 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken the vehicle to the dealer several times but the dealer was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The dealer stated that the computer would need to be reprogrammed but the dealer did not have a program for the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact also stated that when the vehicle was parked, it would roll away abnormally. The failure mileage was 14,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred sporadically several times and usually, the vehicle would restart immediately however on the last occurrence, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a local shop who diagnosed that the throttle body would need to be replaced because it was fractured and water was leaking in. As a result, the engine was corroded. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 100,000.

My 2002 Toyota Camry had stalled-engine problem these years. Most of the problem happened when the car stopped at the traffic red light or stop sign. When I apply the brake to slow down and waiting at the traffic lights or at the stop sign, my Camry car engine abruptly ceases operating and stops turning. I have to turn the key and start the engine again. This problem happened a lot of times these years and give me a big trouble when a lot of other cars waiting behind me. It's not safe and be dangerous especially in heavy traffic. This stalled engine problem just happened this morning when I sent my son to the baseball game.

2007 Toyota Camry - while slowing down in traffic from 30 mph, as I reached approximately 10 mph the engine "revved up" . . . . . . I had to brake harder while the car was bucking as if it wanted to speed ahead . . . . After 5 seconds, engine slowed abruptly so that we thought it had stalled but it was just back to the usual idling speed. The car was brought in to the Toyota dealership on June 16, 2010 right after this incident. They examined the car, found nothing wrong and charged us $96. 00. This "revving up" has happened before but not as severe as this occurrence. Since the June 16 incident, it has happened six other times several of which were severe. The most recent severe incident was on August 21, 2010. We have notified the Toyota corporation but as of today, 8/25/2010, they have not advised us as to what to do. We are not driving the car until this is resolved and the car is found to be safe.
On may 13, 2010 approx 9:15 pm while driving a 1998 Toyota Camry le v6, car stalled/malfunctioned while being pulled over by chp which caused rear end collision spin out and 2 other car accidents, I have proof (video, photos, receipts, and service history) the car's throttle position sensor, idle speed control valve and or other systems caused the accident. Updated ivoq 08/17/10 updated ivoq 10/06/10 updated ivoq 11/17/10 it was determined the throttle position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. Also, the outer door handle was replaced. Updated 01/12/11.
Wife driving 2002 Camry for smock inspection. I am following behind. Camry stalls - engine just dies. Steering is locked. Wife stopped and tried to restart. After ~2mins, car restarted. Continued ~2 miles and engine dies again, steering again locks. Wife able to start again. After car starts, vsc and trac off lights are now on. Took car to Toyota dealer next day. A skid control computer is down per Toyota. Toyota unable to duplicate engine dying, but admit faulty computer could be cause. Skid control computer costs $1453 to replace + $xxx for labor. I have read this is a common issue for 2002 Toyota so am filing a complaint. Why has Toyota not recalled/fixed this yet? if this occurred on freeway, steering wheel lockup at 55+ mph? are they crazy?.
I own a 2002 Toyota Camry v6 le with a mileage reading of about 115000. I do regular oil changes and all necessary services. However off lately the car has randomly started to stall in the middle of road while being driven. This has started to be a big problem and I hesitate to drive the car for long distance. The car would suddenly die in the middle of road specially when I stop for a light or stop sign and then would refuse to start again. I have to keep the gas pedal depressed in order for the car to stay idle and not die. After about 5-10 mins the car would again start up and work normally. I've had this problem about three times this past 2 weeks and its scary now to even drive this car anywhere. I took it to a mechanic where I get all services done and he says everything is fine, but then I had two stalls after the visit. Problem is that it stalls randomly and when I take it to mechanic, it performs quiet well with no problems at all. I read today in motortrend website that NHTSA is enquiring about some Toyota vehicles regarding this same issue and was wondering if these incidents are related? thanks.
Tl- the contact owns a 2001 Toyota camary. The contact stated that there was a random progressing failure in which the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the brake pedal was hard to depress, the steering wheel was tight and the gear had to be changed to neutral each time the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact indicated that the failure continued, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated they need to diagnose the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures from the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was less than 40,000. Dyd.
2002 Toyota solara convertible stalled on railroad tracks in raleigh, nc. The driver was killed seconds after when an amtrak train collided with the vehicle. A mechanical defect has not been ruled out. The car is still in the possession of the decedants widow.
I drive a 2004 Toyota Camry that has been perfectly maintained over the years with only 30,000 miles. I have never had any issue with it until I was driving one day and it just suddenly stalled on me. I was on a highway and was nearly rammed in the back. I had my car towed to a service station and they indicated that it was the throttle body position sensor. I then had my car towed to a Toyota dealership and they told me the exact same thing and that it would cost $1300. I have done extensive research and have found that this is a very common problem with the 2004 Camry. This matter needs to be addressed immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was nearly killed on the highway because of my car suddenly stalling on me without any warning whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the temperature gauge indicated that the vehicle was running hot. The vehicle then stalled and was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was inspected yet the dealer was unable to determine the exact cause of failure. The dealer stated that the failure could have been caused by a faulty thermostat or the headers. The contact was advised that the engine was destroyed and would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 169,668.

I purchased 2007 Toyota Camry le. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The car has put me and my family in danger every time we accelerate. It will not go. The car almost stalls out. Also when I make left turns the steering seems to lock up. I have to jerk the car back to the right to get the steering wheel to unstick. Brought it to the dealer and they tell me everything is okay. Of course they will say that. I think they train them in school to use that answer. I will be bringing the car back to them because this is getting scary. The car only has 12k miles on it. I have seen hundreds of complaints on this same thing so if they state does not do something, than they should be held liable if someone dies in an accident.
