A couple of months ago, I noticed a musty smell coming from my car. I realized that it may be due to the heating/cooling vents, and a quick search revealed that this problem was part of a class action lawsuit on behalf of Toyota Camry drivers. I fear my vehicle has the same faulty system. I replaced the cabin air filter and sprayed ozium cleaner into the intake, but this only solved the problem for a few days.

While driving on the freeway in a construction area with very few shoulders the car steering suddenly became very difficult and the battery warning indicator came on. My wife was able to pull over to a short shoulder area and called the auto club for a tow. The tow truck arrived with the highway patrol. She had to wait in a very dangerous location with many high speed heavy trucks passing a few inches away. Our mechanic said that the belt tensioner failed causing the belt to fail then the power steering and engine cooling to fail.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, he noticed that the temperature gauge increased and the vehicle overheated. He pulled over and opened the hood and found that there was no coolant in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who advised that the head bolt was stripped. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current and failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

2007 Toyota Camry. Initially when the car was turned on the brake light, and abs light would come on along with the tachometer, speedometer would begin racing while in park. At this time the engine cooling system would go down to "c" this happened half a dozen times and it was taken to Toyota dealers. I spent 618. 00 for repairs and I was told the car was fixed. Toyota dealer also stated I was able to drive the car and there would be no problems. After spending money for repairs within 24 hours the problem began again. Now this time not only when you were in park would the lights come on the began coming on while I was driving. So I could not tell what speeds I was doing and unable to tell if I had brakes when the light came on. So it was taken back to the same dealership and this time they want to replace skid control ecu/actuator per tech line and want me to spend over 2000. 00 to fix the problem even though I have a bill of sale that states problem was fixed just days before.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. While examining the vehicle the contact noticed a puddle of coolant underneath the vehicle where it was parked. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the water pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local mechanic where the radiator was replaced. One month after the vehicle was repaired the failure recurred. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 130000.
When driving through heavy rain with water standing on road, a/c fails. This failure occurred twice so far. Dealer indicated that such failure was normal when water gets on belt and belt slips. No repair made. Apparently they have seen this failure many times before. Failure results in rapid and unexpected condensation on windshield and other windows with loss of visibility during heavy rain), causing a hazardous driving condition. Dealer states that there are no service bulletins concerning this problem.

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Camry. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph with the air conditioner on she smelled a burning odor throughout the vehicle. The failure occurred five minutes after the vehicle was turned on. There were no warning lights on the instrument panel prior to or when the failure occurred. The contact added water to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician stated that the engine overheated and caused the head gasket to malfunction. Through further inspection it was determined that the failure was due to damaged bolts that were connected between the head gasket and the engine block. The technician confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $4,000 minus the cost of labor. The vehicle had not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was approximately 116,503. Updated 11/03/10.
I called lowe Toyota dealership prior to service date 3/6/2010 to report delay in gas pedal, that is when accelerator from a stop delay, the is a delay and when turning on a/c it takes almost 1min. Before pressure builds for cooling and I thought this was not normal for a new vehicle with only 40 miles. Also at service date 3/6/2010 damage to front spoiler was not addressed and warranty by dealership was denied.

I have a 2007 Toyota solara with a v-6 engine. At 79000 miles the water pump failed catastrophically and took out the timing belt, which caused the car to quit in the middle of traffic.
I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and since I bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . For example when I stop at a traffic light and I begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and I could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . Another problem that I have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after I get a bump I have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. Also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,I even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. All this complaint was given to Toyota in priors calls I made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong.

2009 Toyota Camry. Consumer states vehicle is accelerating on its own the water pump was replaced due to coolant leaking.
I have just noticed that my 2002 Camry 4 cylinder has a coolant leaking problem. Search on the web, the issue is very likely due to the stripped head bolt as many people have reported the same problem. This warrants a recall!!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry lxe. He stated while driving at speeds of less than 35 mph the radiator warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to maneuver off the highway and noticed there was radiator fluid leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to dealer where they performed a diagnostic and found there was a hole in the radiator. Repairs were made to the vehicle at the owner's expense. The radiator and air conditioner cooling coil were replaced. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer did not assist with the cost of the repairs. The failure and current mileages were under 26,837.
New Toyota Camry hybrid 2009. Bought at bill page Toyota-falls church-va on 05/30/09. On 05/31/09 a/c was not working, 06/01/09 car has been fixed at dealer and a/c worked. Then on 06/25/09 , a/c was not working again. Take car to dealer on 06/26/09; technician said a/c system leaked need to order part. And the car need to back to dealer on 06/28/09 to fix. If you buy a new car with $28000. 00 and it's not for 1 month yet you have to back to dealer to fix the same problem twice like that. Will you be happy customer? Toyota made their own name down to hill. Will you buy a new car from Toyota again if you have experience like mine? in the past I bought 6 cars from Toyota. Going forward no more Toyota for me.
03 Camry 4 cyl. 2. 4l. Only 32000 miles. While driving to work in the morning, coolant leaking from a hose attached to the throttle body. Engine became overheated. No warning light was on. Had to stop the car several times on the way to work. Throttle body needs to be replaced at such low mileage. It costs more than $1200 to replace.
While driving the 2007 v-6 Camry on the highway the vvti oil pressure tube developed a rapid leak. There were no warning lights or oil pressure failure indicators activated by the leak. This rapid oil leak may cause the engine to seize and lead to an accident. The Toyota dealership was contacted and they take no responsibility for the engine design failure, nor do they intend to warn the other Camry owners.
Car's ac blower motor stopped working atr ~ 18 k miles. The heating and cooling system would sometimes not work when it was turned on. This was especially a problem when car was parked in the sun. The blower would also make a thrumming sound and it took 4 times for the dealer to even admit this was happening and it still is not right.
To whom it may concern: we purchased a 2002 Toyota Camry from arlington Toyota, jacksonville, florida- new in December 2001. We have always owned Toyotas with no problems. Presently the car has 64,000 miles. On June 26 the check engine light came on for about an hour and then went off, after that the a/c stopped working. We took the car into coggin Toyota at the avenues on June 28 and were given a bill of $1154 with an explanation that the entire a/c condenser assembly, air flow sensor and air fuel sensor needed replacement. Obviously we had to pay for this and have it done as we're going out of town and have a child who rides in this car regularly, but this is beyond ridiculous. For this age of a car, and supposedly being the most reliable and highly rated car for that year this should not have happened. This car has not been in any bad accidents and is not driven excessively. All routine maintenance is performed on a regular basis. This is clearly a defect on Toyota's part and needs to be compensated for. We should not have had to pay this much for a repair on this type of car, whether or not the warranty is expired. I expected much more from Toyota than we have presently experienced and am very disappointed and frustrated. We had planned to purchase a new sienna within the next few years but now will look else where. ************ kristi b. Gabriel, lmt, ba, mba healing waters therapy.
Toyota Camry engine failure on 12/21/07
1999 Toyota Camry le
December 31, 2007
dear sir,
on December 21, 2007 at 11:30am pt, my wife kim ly nguyen drove our 1999 Toyota Camry le on the 405 south freeway. As she was about to pass the bristol st. Exit in costa mesa, my wife suddenly heard an unusual noisy sound and detected the strong scent of oil and gasoline leaking from the engine. Immediately, my wife maneuvered our car to the right-hand shoulder of the freeway. Once my wife pulled over to the side of the road, the car engine suddenly experienced complete failure and would not re-start. Our car was towed by 21st century insurance to accu auto service (23253 madero #a-104, mission viejo, CA 92691) for repair. Since we are heavily dependent on our car to commute to work every day, it was crucial that we received immediate service on our car. After a diagnostic exam, accu auto service determined that the engine experienced sudden and total failure (please see attached pictures) and was completely replaced and serviced. Since we bought our Toyota Camry le on 4/10/99, it is still under warranty through the ?gold seal mechanical breakdown services contract limited, and we are hoping that you can help us with a reimbursement of our repair costs. Due to the dependency on our car for survival, we had to authorize an immediate repair. Through the life of our Toyota Camry le, we have maintained a good maintenance schedule and upkeep, which can be verified through lew webb's irvine Toyota, inc. (30 auto center dr. , irvine, CA 92618) at 949-768-0688 or accu auto services at 949-859-9637. We hope that you understand our situation and are able to honor our warranty by granting us a reimbursement for the repair of the defective car engine. Thank you for your help and time. Sincerely,
liem ngo & kim ly nguyen.

For the past yr the car shakes between 45-35mph when slowing to brake, rotor replaced and brakes replaced. Also a/c system smells of urine 80% of time, lastly engine when braking and depressing gas to accel. Jumps and is unsafe.
2002 Toyota Camry, stalls as coming to a stop or slowing down for traffic, turning or someone pulling in front of me in traffic. Car will not start for 20 minutes. When trying to start car before 20 minutes it turns over but not start or has a hard time starting and sputters till I can pull over off the street and stalls in a parking lot. When I wait the full 20 plus minutes the car starts as if never had a problem. By the time I get to the dealer or another repair shop they can not find anything wrong or say it has to do with the emissions control and they do not guarantee that may be that problem & I may have to bring the car back in & I will not be refunded my money & will have to pay more out of the pocket. This has been going on for 2 years. It is worse in the heat & humidity (happens more often).
Camry 2007 se v6. Acceleration problems, hesitates at take off, transmission slips like its searching for a gear, smell from a/c. Engine ticks when I take off and don't let it warm up even though its warm outside. Had problems with tires, had them replaced. Loud road noise car not very sound proof. Feels like steering wheel "sticks"for just a second long enough to scare me like someone is holding it.
On March 9, 2007 the Toyota Camry erupted into a fire during my normal driving. On Nov 28, 2006, I repaired my vehicle at Toyota authorized service statin, fitzgerald Toyota, m for changing water pump and timing belt. My odo meter reading was around 93. 213 miles and within 800 miles (close to 94100) the vehicle met with fire accident. Repeated letter Toyota corporation is being ignored and Toyota service station is yet to reply back my letter.
Intake manifold leaking only 51000 miles 2003 Camry . Toyota dealers est. $675. 00 to repair . I noticed on line a number of people having this problem with 2003 Camry.
After 4985 miles, the "check engine" light activated. There was a smell of burning electrical wires. Dealer/service originally diagnosed the problem as a failure of the "variable valve timing actuator," but later re-diagnosed the problem as a failure of the wiring harness. The car was returned 11/30/06. After 20 minutes of driving, the "check engine" light reactivated. I returned the car immediately. On 12/01/06, the dealer/service diagnosed the problem and said a "vacuum tube" disconnected. I picked up car on 12/01/06. After a couple hours of driving, the "p" for park light illuminated while I was in drive. (the "p" and "d" indicators were both illuminated as I was driving. Also, the door locks on all doors engaged and disengaged uncontrollably and continuously. I was not able to manually lock or unlock my car doors using the "lock/unlock" switch on the drive-side door since it was deactivated as a result of the malfunction. I took the car back to the dealer/service on 12/02/06 for this problem. Dealer/service diagnoses the problem as a electrical short due to a coolant leak. I was promised that the car would be returned 12/4/06 afternoon.
I had my car serviced before leaving for our trip to florida and within 2 hours of driving from my home the water pump went and blew the engine. We had to leave our car at the dealership in watertown and rent a car for our trip. In 2004, we also failed the emission test twice.
I bought a brand new Toyota Camry xle in may 2003. About 1 1/2 years after purchasing it, I began to hear a sloshing sound under the dash board. The producing of the sound wasn't consistent because some days it wasn't present at all. When the sound first started it was very faint and the passenger could not hear it even when I pointed it out. I checked for leaks but I could not find any. Today, the sound is a lot more noticable; however, it still does not presnet itself everyday. I tried to observe if it only happens when it is cold out side or hot, but the sound is not consistent. When the sound is present, I would have to turn my music up a little to ignore it. My car's performance does not seem to be hampered by this sloshing or splashing noise so I thought my fluids weres just circulating. But it has become quite embarassing and annoying having to deal with it. I read another consumer had the same problem and Toyota could not resolve the issue so they bought their car back. I am now inquiring to Toyota about the issue, but I wished I had when my car was still under warranty and the problem first arised at the 20,000 mile mark.
Without warning engine died at night while driving on a dual lane highway. Pulled over to the side of the highway before car momentum died. Would not restart and the "engine check" light was lit. Car was towed to a service repair station that evening. Service station found the water pump failed resulting in the timing belt failure. Belt and water pump replaced, timing reset, but failed to start. Investigation revealed timing had slipped and cause was the crankshaft pulley key had sheared. That was replaced, timed again, and engine was back to normal. Oldmobile parts not availiable.

While driving on interstate hwy water pump failed causing timing belt and idler to also fail and damage to oil pump.
Additional info to odi number 765034 - shop mentioned that the water pump damaged caused scrapping on the engine block. Since the engine block is made of an aluminum base his concern was that the marks might cause a crack to occur. He said no leaking was seen at this time but I want to put on record that damage was made to the engine that might cause problems in the furture. This scraping was due to the water pump failure that was noted in the odi number 765034 questionnaire. This info was also mentioned to Toyota in a certified letter but I have not received any response yet from Toyota.
