1 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

The torque converter is causing my car to shudder and make unusual sounds. This is also causing metal fragments to leak into my transmission. This could cause my car to slip gears while driving making this a hazardous safety issue.

3 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/19/2018

We purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry and after three months of owning it we now need a new engine. My husband was driving the car on the highway and without warning the engine started making a funny noise and smoking. He had to stop on the highway in a turning lane at night. I am so upset that we now have a nonworking vehicle that we still owe money on. I have been reading up on this and apparently there are many 2007 models with engine failure. I'm not a detective but something is criminal about this. We work hard to pay for these vehicles. . . . They arnt a toy we play with. . . . We need them to get places safely. If there are so many people having this issue. . . . It must be a manufacturer flaw. They should have to make it right.

4 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2018 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

I have a 2018 Toyota Camry and on my first week after buying it, I noticed that there's a major acceleration delay that I couldn't bear anymore. It's making a weird sound and is definitely something noticeable. Toyota seriously needs to take care of this as this may cause accidents especially on merging on the freeway. I tried to take it to 2 different Toyota service centers and both just told me that my car was driving fine. I looked up some complaints for this car online and it seems like a lot of people are actually complaining about this same as with 2019 models. I hope Toyota will fix this because it's making us consumers very frustrated.

5 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

The car maintenance has been kept up per the manufacturer and always taken to the Toyota dealer. The car was making a loud unusual noise from the engine; took it to Toyota and the oil stick was completely dry. This was after just having a routine oil change about a month earlier. About 1,000 to 1,200 miles later, the same thing, no oil on the dip stick. Interestingly, there is no oil leak in the driveway either. The service adviser explained they don't know what it could be and there was no recall on the 2010 Camry for this type issue. They topped off the oil again and said to come back at the 1,000 mile mark to have it checked again and to check it weekly as well. Made it to about 800 miles and again no oil. This is very frustrating as Toyota corporation got to know that this is a manufacturer defect and need to recall these vehicles and fix this issue before someone gets seriously hurt driving a car with no oil since the oil light never comes on either as a warning. Lastly, the adviser did say it may be something with the engine that would cost us upward of $5k to $6k.

6 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

I am the original owner of a 2006 solara that currently has about 56,000 miles. Last year, the check engine light started turning on, but it wasn't until this year that I found out the problem. My car is burning excessive oil, about 1. 75 quarts every 1,200 miles (according to the dealership's oil consumption test. ) Toyota issued a technical service bulletin in 2011 stating that it will only fix the 2007 and 2008 solaras. Although my car is a 2006, it has the exact same engine as the 2007 and 2008. I already called Toyota corporate twice and they refuse to pay for the repair, arguing that it is out of warranty. I am aware of that, but it is obviously a manufacturng problem. My car is low on mileage, it's never been crashed, and I've done all the maintenance at the dealership in a timely manner since the day I bought it. Toyota is well aware that this is a very common problem with these engines and they refuse to fix it. I shouldn't have to pay about $3,000 to fix it, if the problem is not my fault. I'm also not going to sell it to someone without telling them about the problem, because that's just wrong. So my only options are paying for the repair myself or selling it and taking a significant loss due to the problem. Yesterday my car started shaking when I was stopped at red lights, making loud unusual noises, losing power, and then the "check engine" light turned on. I don't feel safe driving the car because I've read that the engine can eventually just die due to excessive oil consumption. I've been reading about this issue, and there are thousands of others with the exact same problem. Toyota should be investigated and be forced to admit the problem and pay for the repairs of the customers involved.

7 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

While driving highway, approx. 50 mph, my car engine quit running with no unusual noise, no warning lights or indicators. Oil was gone, but the oil indicator light had not lighted. No warning to quit driving before engine damage was experienced. The engine has not been disassembled for definitive diagnosis, but two auto repair shops, one being a local Toyota dealer service dept. , have indicated that the engine must be replaced because the engine is knocking loudly and the bearings are probably overheated and "welded" to the part surrounding them. I learned from Toyota corp. About their "excessive oil consumption" extended warranty program, but they are refusing to stand behind this defect in my car and refuse to perform repairs at their cost. My engine burned up because the oil was depleted within a two month period - this happened on 12/28/15, and I had topped off the oil in October with 2. 5 qts, and the remaining oil was clean. Toyota refuses to acknowledge that a highly abnormal event has occurred with my car, gave me no warning to act in a safe manner, and led to engine failure with repairs estimated $5,300 - $7,600.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a thumping noise was present coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the oil level was extremely low and the vehicle had experienced excessive oil consumption failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

10 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 1999 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

8/12/03 heard unusual noise shortly after getting on a highway. Pulled the car to the side and stopped. Found oil all over the place, inside the engine and outside on the ground. A Toyota dealer examined the car and said that the "#1 connecting rod" was broken and that it is not customer's fault. We bought Toyota Camry (4 cylinders) in 1999. We have been following the recommended maintenance schedule at the same Toyota dealer. Even 3 weeks before the engine broke down, we had a major maintenance following the advice of the Toyota dealer for preventing damage to the engine. As the mileage is over the warrante amount, Toyota doesn't pay for the required engine replacement and we hope they do. It's not fair to let us pay as we haven't done anything wrong.
