Engine Oil Leaking Problems of Toyota Camry - part 2

I began noticing during my regular oil change maintenance at 3000-5000 miles, that closer to required oil change my oil light would engage during braking. I didn't think anything of it at first, but began noticing it at a consistent rate. When I had my oil changed at 90,000 miles the service person indicated I only had about 1 1/2 quarts removed from the car. I thought I had an oil leak of some sort, but I never have had any significant discharge from my oil pan, oil filter and so forth in my driveway. I went to my son who is a mechanic, and he said he saw little sign of any leakage, and I must be burning it. So he suggested I get online, and look for similar incidents, and now I see 2007 is a popular year for this type of issue. I have yet to bring it to a dealers attention, and see no re-call or manufacturers problem advertised by Toyota.

Oil sign on dash was lighting up (on and off) - checked oil in vehicle - totally empty . No oil leaks ever ! have no idea where it went . I had last oil change around 3,000 miles ago. Last couple of times I had my oil changes done - service technicians stated that my engine oil was extremely low , and that they saw no leaks . I went on the internet and found scores of the same complaint , about the 2007 Camry , 4 cyl. . Judging by all of the complaints I've read it is quite apparent this is a major problem that has been brought to Toyota's attention . These vehicles should be recalled and properly fixed.

I was driving the car as usual and noticed red engine oil light came on when I brake for a traffic light. Checked the oil level when I got home and realized there was no oil on the dip stick at all! I ended up putting in about 2 qts of oil to return it to an acceptable level. After researching for the problem, I found out there was a service bulletin for exactly the same problem and basically the engine needed to be rebuilt in order to fix the problem. Seems like Toyota hasn't been honest about their products potential problems lately. Please pressure Toyota to issue a recall for this problem. Otherwise I will never buy any Toyota product again. At the same time, I recalled my dealership, where I purchased the maintenance package from, had previously suggested that oil pan could have been leaking oil. I went under the car, and there was no sign of leakage at all! the dealership always knew about the service bulletin and was trying to misguide me!.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the dealer advised that the front axle failed. In addition, the vehicle was leaking engine oil. The vehicle was repaired. The engine oil ring and the front axle were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure and current mileage was 73,000.

My engine light has been on since I've had this car , 2001. No one could ever tell me why the light has been on all this time until I took it in for an oil change and was told that they couldn't do it because I had a severe oil leak. This car now needs head gaskets. It seems to be a Toyota problem.

Tl- the contact owns 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while having the vehicle inspected by the dealer they confirmed that the crankshaft sensor was leaking oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 66,560. Rvk.

2,000 miles after an oil change I noticed that my oil light would come on sporadically. I checked the oil and it was three quarts low. The car only hold four quarts of oil, so this was especially concerning. A mechanic checked out my car and said that there were no leaks, everything was still factory sealed, and he didn't know why it was consuming so much oil. I had an oil change 1000 miles later, and 2000 miles after that I was low on oil again! according to things I've read, this car consumes roughly 1 quart of oil every 1,200 miles it is driven. This should be fixed by Toyota.

I have been having problems out of my 2007 Camry for over about a year and a half now. Probably after 2-3 months of getting my oil changed, I have having to put more oil in it between oil changings. I have been to 2 different dealerships and an automachanic shop in which no one has seen any oil leaks. What I have noticed when my oil light comes on, it is harder for me to stop my vechile. When I check my oil, it's almost nothing in there. I have seen other complaints related to this and this may be something that Toyota need to look in to immediately. I did not have this problem with my 05 Camry and if there is no oil leak, there shouldn't be a reason I have to put oil in my car in between oil changings!.

I noticed when applying sudden brakes low engine oil light came on but it went away when brakes were released. I thought it may be time for oil change and got oil change done shortly. That problem didn't came back till few months later. I had my oil change done from the dealer and the service was not due yet so I went to the nearby auto shop and they told me it didn't show any oil in the dipstick so they did the oil change and filled it up(no visible problem noticed). I thought I will get it inspected with the dealer on my next visit. Next time when I went to dealer I mentioned it and they were too busy to check that but they did visual inspection and didn't see any problem or leaks. Again after same issue they told me to come after 1200 miles after oil change but they didn't find any problem. I had to carry the oil with me just in case as the nearby auto place told me it was abnormal. I had to top it up again shortly as the dip stick showed no oil. I complained to the dealer again and they told me to come back after 2500 miles and they sealed the knob with silicon or something so it cannot be tampered with and they told me to come on weekday so they can talk to the Toyota engineer. When I returned they tested it and found normal consumption and no problem found. I am still facing that problem and I called Toyota hotline and they told me that they would go by the dealers opinion on that and there was no known problem on the vehicle. When I read these posts on this website then it definitely seems like a problem and now my vehicle is not under warranty either . My engine is still fine, only problem is I have to change oil too frequently. If something happens to engine in future I definitely hope Toyota will cover it since they haven't identified any problem on my engine after so many visits.

I have to put a quart of oil in it every 900-1000 miles (5 quarts between changes which occur at 5k). It's not leaking (I park in same spot daily, it's being consumed in the engine, and I've recently heard of a recall and have rec'd info. At my home from Toyota about a potential recall).

We bought a brand new 2001 Toyota Camry ce in 2000 and were pretty comfortable with the vehicle until something happened to us about 8 weeks ago. On Jan 22, we were driving on I 15 freeway south from la back to las vegas. About after 30 minutes on the road I heard something sounding like a crack under the vehicle (last only about one second). I thought the vehicle might hit a rock underneath and slowed down trying to figure out what exactly happened. Then in about 3 minutes the vehicle lost the power. I turned on the emergency flash light and pulled the vehicle to the roadside. I could see that the engine oil was leaking out badly. After lots of hassles the vehicle was towed to crown Toyota dealer shop in ontario. The next day morning their service manager called to tell me that nothing indicated that the vehicle hit a rock since there was no damage outside of the engine. To the best of his judgment the engine was damaged from inside. He said something from inside of engine could fall down and knocked the engine that caused the leaking. Soon after that my insurance company denied my claim stating that they talked to the crown Toyota dealer shop and concluded the accident was caused by the mechanical failure of the engine, which is not covered by the insurance policy. Last month I had the engine replaced in an auto shop and was told the same thing about the cause of the problem. From pictures attached one can see a big hole knocked out on engine(see attached picture). It is a real surprise to me since the vehicle has run only 79,500 miles and we gave it maintenance on regular bases as required. By this letter we request an investigation of what engine defect caused the failure and an explanation from Toyota company. At the same time we reserve the right to ask for compensations for the loss caused by this mechanical failure. This complaint has been sent to national customer relation of Toyota moto sales.

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Camry. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard a loud cracking noise coming from under the vehicle as the vehicle stalled. After inspection, the contact noticed oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was advised that part of the engine had fallen and caused the engine to leak. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who replaced the entire engine. The manufacturer was aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The current mileage was 90,000 and the failure mileage was 79,500.

Engine lower case crank seal leak. I called Toyota corp. Office and they refused to help me. I have read all the complaints, and I believe this problem should have been a recall. Toyota corp. Needs to recall and fix problem before someone gets seriously hurt driving a car without oil. The engine oil light does not come on. It can also cause an engine stoppage. I am a senior citizen and fear something will happen. The cost to fix is about $2200. 00. I am a senior citizen and cannot afford that kind of money. I would appreciate it if you could help me with this problem. I will type the date I bought the car at the bottom of this form because it is asking date incident happened and won't take recent dates. The contact owns a 1998 Toyota Camry. There was an oil leak inside of the oil filter. The vehicle was taken to an oil change facility where the oil filter was not installed incorrectly and caused oil to leak and damaged the engine. While driving 50 mph the engine over heated and stalled. The vehicle was towed to a different local mechanic. The second mechanic also informed him that an oil leak along with a damaged filter caused the vehicle to stall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 110,000.

Engine oil leak in 2009 Camry le 4 cylinder. This car hds a rear main seal replaced at 30k miles and the lekd returned. Then had a short block replaced at 34k miles. Leak returned w/I 277 miles of short black replacement. Filing arbitration. Vehicle still leaking and engine oil leak is very obvious.

At the speed of less than aprox 15-20 miles on a turn, car spun off and lost control. Caused wheels to crash into curb, and severely damaged. Noticed oil on the tire surface. Moved car out of toad way. Car spilled lot of oil. The Toyota dealer assessed, and told us that the oil hose (vvt-I) has ruptured, causing oil leak. Toyota later informed that there is a so called "limited campaign" to replace these hoses. They are denying that the oil leak was the cause of accident. They have not done any thorough investigation. The written response from does not even satisfactorily explain their reasoning for denying claim.

Toyota customer and owner with unfortunate problems with my car driven normally in the ordinary course of the day as an elder. The electrical system has failed, the oil leaks, the floormat interferes with the accelerator pedal and sticks, interfering with braking experienced recently on the NY-CT highway. I paid to repair the electrical failure and oil leaks and still the electrical system as indicated for example by the dashboard which is continuously lit up, I. E. Is still not working properly. The vvt-I line from bank 1 failed and oil leaked all over my driveway. The car was 4. 3 quarts low. No specific action took place to cause this other than a defective part/design from Toyota. The "fix" was a replacement pipe sub assembly (p/n 15707-31030). Apparently there is a metal replacement assembly but they put another rubber pipe into my car. Let's hope it doesn't have again and actually cause some damage.

2007 Toyota Camry with 2gr-fe v-6 engine had a failed vvti pressure pipe assy. Major oil leak developed which caused a loss of engine oil. No warning lights came on. Dealer replaced with the same part number 15707-31030 with the rubber connection instead of the updated all metal part number 15772-31030. I had 56335 miles on the vehicle so it was under warranty but now I am concerned about this event occurring again after another 56000 miles. I went on the internet and now realize that this problem exist on many of the Toyota vehicles with this type engine. I feel there should be a recall issued by Toyota before someone gets hurt. (fire, broke down on the side of road and another vehicle crashes into you etc. ).

My 2004 Toyota Camry engine died 10/ 22/07 w/59,615 miles on it. 13464 miles @ purchase-I was told that it was a program car w/extended warranty=6 yrs/100k miles. Found the window sticker when I traded it in. No problems with the car prior to the incident. Coming home from a trip, power steering lost some functionality; a service light came on; my husband put power steering fluid in; we headed to the nearest Toyota dealer. En route we lost all power steering & ability to accelerate, engine began to smoke; car cut off. The dealership took 5-6 weeks to replace the engine. Doubt old parts are available. On a couple of occasions incorrect parts were ordered/received. Picked the vehicle up~12/1/07; 59620 miles on it. While awaiting repairs dealerships/corporate offices could only advise the car may be under basic warranty. Took it to the dealership where purchased the next business day. Smelled smoke and wanted assurance a new engine was put in as promised & that there were no other problems. They made $900+ worth of added repairs-rear main seal oil leak; axle boot leak. It had 59949 miles on it. At that point I didn't want it back. I wanted Toyota to assume responsibility for selling a lemon. My main concern: is there a serious safety hazard with 2004 Toyota Camry models as seen in previous years (engine oil sludge)? secondly, did something else cause this incident? the dealership where I purchased this Camry should have responded to my dissatisfaction; they should have acknowledged/offered some incentives for selling me a lemon. Their only concern, make another sale. Requested a call from/audience with the owner. Hasn't happened. I needed a car and believed this was aberration with respect to Camry models' performance. Not sure that they'll keep me as a customer. I thank god we had no accident, no known injuries. Please let me know if there's litigation this make/model; I'd like to join the litigants. I purchased my car in 2007 as a mark down because it had been returned by a business but the oil leak problem was not fixed before I bought it nor was I told of the problem. Soon after I bought it I noticed that the oil was low but I couldn't find where the oil was leaking from. There was no black smoke so I took it to the dealer. Over and over again I took the car in and complained about the missing oil. One of the things they told me was that they never put the required amount in but always put in from one half to a full quart low. I never missed scheduled maintenance and each time I told them about the oil problem but they never fixed it. Instead they always offered me some excuse. The warranty is now expired but the problem has been continuous from the beginning of the warranty. I believe the car should be covered under the lemon law. I was taken advantage of because I am a woman. I need you help because I am at wits end and I don't think I should have to be worried all the time and always have to carry spare oil in my trunk.

I own a Toyota Camry 1998 model. The engine oil leaks non-stop. Several months back I received a notice of class action settlement with the Toyota company. It stated that all Toyota Camrys 1998 had an engine oil leak defect, and as per the class action settlement I could take my car to a Toyota dealership and they would fix this problem at their cost. Also, that if I had incurred any costs trying to have this problem fixed on my own, Toyota will pay such costs to the owner. Accordingly, I took my car to the dealership. They took the copy of the notice from me and informed me that it does not apply to my car. I was told that they could check and fix the problem, but I would have to pay for it. If this was the case, then why was I sent a notice in the first place to take my car to a dealership for the problem fix? this has been a very frustrating and embarrassing experience. This is my complaint, and I request help in getting this problem resolved.

2001 Toyota Camry was towed on 3/27/06 as a result of oil leak from engine. All data was sent to Toyota who sent it to an independent evaluator who denied claim. . I would like to resubmit the claim and documents to your office for a reevaluation.

Vehicle experienced oil leakages coming from underneath the vehicle. Dealer was not notified, and the cause of the problem has not been determined.

2001 Toyota Camry le. Engine oil leaking. I did not realize untill I went to 65k service by dealer. The leaking oil malfunction power steering.

Took 1997 Camry to dealer September 2002 for slight hesitation problem and advised them that I noticed a small oil leak while parked at home. Dealer advised it was engine sludge. Car remained in dealer's possession for 1 1/2 months because of no response from service tech. They claimed that sludge problem was fixed, however. July 8, 2004 the car stopped. Had it towed to dealer and was advised that the engine died from sludging. . . Again. Dealer say they will not fix it and that I must purchase another engine for $5200. 00 (used 2000 Toyota engine). I advised them of the letter found on the I-net from toyoto re. "coverage for oil gelling related engine damage for 8 years unlimited mileage from date of first sale" but service tech said "we fixed it once and we will not do it again". I am without transportation, and no satisfaction from Toyota dealer. Help!.

The engine blew in my 1998 Toyota Camry. It had 12300 mileage and was well maintained with no prewarnings that there was any engine trouble. I had received a letter from Toyota corporation months prior to the incident, warning of oil sludging/gelling problems with this car model. The letter stated that all repair costs would be covered for damages caused by oil sludging/gelling. The Toyota mechanics informed me that the engine appeared clean - no oil sludging. But, they did not know why the engine blew. They informed me that the oil might have been low. However, I had just had an oil change performed two months prior to the incident and was not informed of an oil leak, nor did my oil indicator light ever come on. Even though they couldn't explain what caused the engine to blow, they would not cover any costs of repair.

We went to the dealer today, armed with an amazing array of internet information. We were initially sent to the main receptionist who when asked who's handling the sludge problems? at first didn't seem to understand the meaning of the word, then when my fiance pulled out a whole packet of information and put it in front of her and said this problem, which I'm sure you're aware of she then aid, you took me off guard and then stopped the gsm or sm and asked him to talk to us. When in his office, we said, we bought a car from you and have sludge and the car has sat a month, he referred us to the repair department. We walked though the hall and over to repair and spoke with the manager of that department. He asked for the VIN and the mileage, after we said we have a bad sludge problem. He pulled the vehicle up in the computer then asked if anyone had removed the intake to see if it was sludge. We answered that of course we had taken it to two different mechanics, first because we thought it was an oil leak, burning and causing all the smoke. Both mechanics knew immediately that it was sludge, although the one was nice enough to run diagnostics to prove there was no leak. We were told the car could not be driven. After telling the manager that two mechanics had seen it, he asked if it could be driven to the dealership. We told him, since it is shuddering and smoking like a freight train, both mechanics advised that the whole engine would seize up, and we would not drive it. He then gave us a number to a towing company for the dealership that would tow at no cost to us to the dealership and agreed to look at the car tomorrow. When I asked what it would cost me, he said nothing, if it is sludge. We'll see. If this man is as honest as he seems, he's not only rare, but amazing. Of course, he could call in a day or two and say it was my fault and want oil change receipts. Unfortunatlly for the dealership, I have them.

While driving at 65 mph the engine caught on fire. There was a 3-4 inch hole in the engine which leaked oil and ignited a fire. The fire investigator reported the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction and not improper care. There was no warning, the vehicle just exploded with a big bang and the brakes had gone out.

Driving the Camry down the interstate when oil light came on. Within 2-3 miles I was able to pull off and as I rolled into a gas station the engine began knocking. When towed to a Toyota dealer they said the engine was ruined but claimed it wasn\\'t related to the well-known oil sludge problem. The oil had been changed every 3000-5000 miles and neither leaked nor used oil. The dealer had no explanation why the engine would so suddenly be robbed on oil that it would throw a rod and be ruined. I have since learned the engine has given so many problems that Toyota discontinued it (the 2. 2 4liter). Since I had to have a used engine put in (Toyota wanted $5300!!) I have no assurance that this engine won\\'t do exactly the same thing!!.

Engine failed due to oil sludging. Dealer told me it is my fault do to infrequent oil changes. They say I need new engine. I repaired myself so it is drivable,but still has problems. Some kind of knock and oil leak. I received letter stating Toyota will back there product, but dealer still will not help. Dealer is Toyota on nicholasville.

The consumer was concerned that the vehicle may catch on fire because the vehicle was leaking oil. The rear main seal leaked. Smoke was also present.
