On August 11, 2014, while driving in a rainstorm on interstate 20 in mississippi, I heard something hard strike the windshield. A moment later I saw a crack abruptly run from the edge towards the middle of the windshield directly in front of the driver seat. The crack had traveled about 12 inches before stopping. I inspected the windshield when we arrived home and discovered that something struck the unprotected edge of the glass. On all vehicles I've driven to date (including our 2008 Toyota yaris) the vulnerable windshield edges are protected with trim or gaskets but not on our 2014 Camry. At first we thought that edge protectors were missing from our vehicle but we inspected all the Camrys at our dealership and found that all have exposed windshield edges. Exposed windshield edges are very dangerous. Roadways are littered and contain construction debris (gravel, metal and other materials) that could strike a car when driven over and launched into traffic. While safety glass will absorb a great deal of impact, its integrity is compromised when cracked such as what happened to my 2014 Camry. Any sharp strike to the edge of glass will cause a crack to develop that could result in complete windshield failure. More importantly, a sudden crack will startle a driver and may result in their losing control of their vehicle. This condition is a serious threat to all drivers on the road. I utilized the Toyota 3-tier complaint process without success. The Toyota company does not believe this deficiency is a serious safety concern according to my personal conversation with their complaint department. Toyota should voluntarily recall all it's vehicles with similar exposed windshield edges and apply a protective edge guard. They should also repair damaged windshields that are caused by strikes to the vulnerable edges.

Driving down i35 when I heard a loud boom and smelled a burning rubber smell and realized my back passenger window shattered on drivers side. The dealer ship nor Toyota show any interest in hearing about the issue or taking responsibility. I had to repair out of my pocket. Thankful my daughter was not in the back seat and only I was in the vehicle.

Both the sun visor on the driver's side and passenger side have broken. They flop down and won't stay up. The driver side visor hung right in the line of sight of the driver. I had to hold it up with my left hand while driving so that I could see, until I could drive home and remove it. Both visors have been removed, which causes another hazard of sun glare for the driver. Sunglasses alone do not block the sun well enough. I still become blinded by the sun and have to block the sun with my hand. Very hazardous. Dealerships are charging around $175 per visor. At the very minimum, Toyota needs to replace the visors at their cost of the visor with free labor.

The driver's side sun visor made a cracking noise, and then came down, and stayed in the down position, causing us to have to bend our heads down to see out the window and enduring the visor hitting us in the face and head. Two days later while lowering the passenger side sun visor, the entire thing, with the clips fell to the floor. Toyota refuses to do anything about this. There should be a recall, as this is a safety issue-because even wearing sun glasses there is a lot of glare. When the first one broke, I went to the dealer(penn Toyota, roslyn NY) who told me that the car is no longer on warranty-3 years, 36,000 miles which is technically true as the car was bought in may 2008, but has 33,000 miles, and that the repair would cost $150. 00. I didn't do it there, but instead brought the car to my own mechanic, railroad auto care in syosset, where it also cost $150. 00. The passenger side visor has not yet been fixed-I have to decide what to do. $300 for two sun visors is a lot of money. Please order a recall-the mechanic says that the clips that hold the sun visor are of poor design, and the dealer's he has spoken with are seeing a lot of this problem. This should be subject to a recall. Updated ivoq 11/29/11.

Drivers side visor will not stay up-it flops down. Safety hazard to drive-removed, but now blinded by the sun even with sunglasses on.
Driver side sun visor began to droop and would not stay in upward or downward position. Finally had to remove visor in order to see while driving. Now have no visor, and sun glasses do not always provide enough protection from the sun to see while driving. This is a major driving hazard. . . . Especially for someone with light-sensitive eyes. The visor is too costly to replace easily for some people.
Sun visor on driver's side stopped working. For about a year before it stopped, it would make a loud cracking sound anytime I adjusted it. Now it is hanging straight down and impairing my vision. I tied it to the grab bar above my door with cable ties (very attractive!), and it is totally unusable. Driving with the sun in my eyes is not safe and I have good quality sunglasses. I drive east in the am to work and west in the pm home. I can't avoid the sun.
The driver and passenger sun visors do not stay in place when not in use. The hazard is that when a person enters the car, the sun visor hits his or her head if they are not careful. Also, because the sun visor is lower than most normal sun visors, it blocks the driver's view somewhat. I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and I've had trouble ever since I bought this car brand new in 2007. To correct this failure, I have tied the sun visor with duct tape, and connected it to the top handle and the eye glass tray (at the top middle of the car cabin). If I have to use the visor for sun, it constantly swings and is a distraction while driving. Therefore, I wear sunglasses for this defect.

I drive a 2010 Toyota Camry with about 7500 miles. At about 11:20 a. M. Today my rear window exploded as I stopped at a traffic light on arlington mill road in arlington, va. When the explosion occurred I did not know what it was and looked around for the source. When I looked to the rear I saw the window in fragments. I saw no one around me although there may have been several vehicles stopped at the light behind me. They all drove around and continued on when the light changed. I crossed the light to not hold up traffic and then called aaa to determine what to do. I take product pictures of products I market over the internet and had a camera with me, so I took several pictures. I did not call the police as I could see no one who might have fired a gun or thrown a stone. Aaa advised that I should not drive the car as it was not safe to other drivers if shattered glass flew off into the road way. I also did not want to drive or in any way disturb the vehicle prior to examination by the dealer. The temperature was 82 degrees and the ac was on. Also, the side windows have been tinted dark as I had intended to use the vehicle for a livery service. There is no tint on the front and rear windows. I received the customer satisfaction number (1-800-331-4331) to call Toyota, have called several times only to be placed on hold for significant periods of time.

Had been driving car earlier in the day with no problems. Temperature outside roughly 40 degrees and car had just been turned on.

Driver side sun visor on 2007 Toyota Camry will not stay up. I took it off so I will not have an obstructed view of the road. But now I need some sunglasses.
I am the author of consumer complaint: odi case number: 10253724, relating to sun glare on my 2004 solara. About 5,000 miles ago I purchased black felt from a local fabric store and covered the top portion of the dash board, where the sun hits, using double sided tape. It is now like looking through new glass. There is no more glare, even now in the middle of summer. I still believe Toyota should make some type of dash cover available, though.

Having problems with the windshield. I guess you can call it windshield bubbles. Real bad at sunrise and at sunset. Kind of looks like hair spray residue on the windshield. Waiting for the factory rep. To look at it. Looks like it is embedded in the glass. Not a clear view when driving into the sun.

: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in front of the house, another vehicle passed by setting off the car alarm. After entering the vehicle to turn off the alarm, the contact shut the driver's side door. Upon shutting the door, the rear windshield imploded on the inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where Toyota determined a stone must have hit the vehicle's rear windshield causing the windshield to implode. The dealership also informed the contact the rear windshield did not have a protective coating. The contact contends that if a stone can compromise the integrity of the rear windshield, this is safety defect in the vehicle. Updated 06/23/06- the consumer requested rental reimbursement.
