1 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/28/2019

When accelerating the vehicle's rpm rev, hesitation and then the vehicle speeds up once transmission engages with the engine. The vehicle accelerates at a high speed. This has happened over the last three months on an incline, 1. 0 grade while merging onto the freeway. On flat surfaces, this does not occur. No warning indicator light to indicate there was an issue. The last time the hesitation happened I was traveling at 50 mph to gain speed to merge onto the freeway. The vehicles rpm was between 5-6 and the transmission would not engage however it did move forward and allowed me to pull off to the shoulder. At this time there is no invoice. We have a verbal estimation of $4,000 for the transmission, center city automotive in davis, CA.

2 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry xle. The contact stated that while driving on cruise control at approximately 60 mph traveling uphill, the transmission failed to engaged back in to cruise control when the brake was tapped to slow down. The contact again tapped on the brakes to disengaged the cruise control and accelerated manually for the rest of the trip. The vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic that determined that the transmission had failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed number: 1803150976. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000. Bp.

3 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Transmission will appear to disengage between 2nd and 3rd gear when first starting off in cold or after setting for long periods (9-10 hrs. ). Starting from a dead stop the car will feel and appear to start off normally, then the transmission will disengage, and the rpms will shoot up if you do not take you foot off of the accelerator. After releasing the accelerator the transmission will engage and continue on normally. This is not constant or every time. This has been a problem since 3,000 mile - current mileage 87,000. Dealer can not resolve the issue or duplicate. I have duplicated it for them once during the cold weather when the vehicle was left with them for repairs and testing.

4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

When first starting out with cold engine, stopping for traffic light, cars transmission does not fully engage properly. When leaving intersection, accelerating the engine, the car will creep very slowly for about 50 feet or so, then seems to slowly engage as it normally should. After car is warm, it seems to run fine for the rest of the day. This obviously irritates cars behind me, but even more so, creates a dangerous situation. Driving on today's highways is dangerous enough. I'd hate to have this happen, if I should ever need acceleration to avoid an accident in the making???.

5 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

My 2005 Toyota Camry xle v6 car has serious transmission issues. It hesitates and takes several seconds at slow speeds to find a gear to shift into. The engine revs and the rpms increase but the transmission does not engage. This is especially troublesome when making turns and makes me vulnerable to being rear ended in right hand turns, but exposes me to being broadsided in left hand turns. Just last week during a left turn my car would not engage and I was extremely close to having the passenger side where my child sits hit! this car also bucks several times when attempting to shift at speeds between 25-35 mph. This car has trouble climbing small hills and also jerks and downshifts when going down hills, even at slow speeds when my foot never lets pressure off the gas pedal. As I said the most troublesome issue is when it has difficulty selecting a gear at lower speeds. More than just an annoyance, it is indeed a safety issue and I am now afraid that I may be hit on the passenger side during left hand turns. This happens every day that I drive my Camry. When telling the dealer the first time of these issues he basically said get used to it. The next time I took my Camry in for service and complained again about the issue they said there was a service bulletin put out by Toyota about resetting the computer and they then performed this maintenance. Fortunately I did not pay for this service as it did nothing to help remedy the situation. I will be taking it in for another oil change soon and complaining yet again about this issue!.

6 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

I have Toyota Camry 2007. I had experienced the rpm shooting up in low acceleration. I took the vehicle to dealer for repair in early Feb 2010, but the dealer detected no problem. However, as the problem persisted and it happened frequently, so I took the video of speedometer and tachometer, and went back to dealer with the video. Mechanics at the dealer tried to duplicate the problem with computer hooked to my car, and I drove the car with them. But again, the problem could not be duplicated. Dealer advised me that this has nothing to do with sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles, and asked me to come back if the problem persists. Toyota did not perform any repair at that time. However, after this visit to the dealer, I have not experienced the same problem as frequently. I may have noticed it few times in the past month although I feel that acceleration seem unsteady. No accident has occurred, and I do not have sudden acceleration problem as reported on the news. However, I am concerned that the problem I have might be related to the sudden acceleration problem. I would like to provide the video if it can help NHTSA's current investigation for sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles. The consumer felt the transmission temporarily disengaged or down shifted temporarily. The rpm jumped about 200-500 rpms momentarily. When it happened, the consumer felt an abrupt, but slight jerk, but it didn't accelerate in an uncontrolled manner. Updated 04/29/10.

7 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/19/2009

I bought a 2010 Toyota Camry that has the new six speed automatic transmission. When I was coasting to slow down the transmission seemed to disengage and did not hold back anymore. I came within a foot of running into the rear of the car in front of me which was stopped at a red light. This had happened many times before but never this close to an accident. When the car reaches around 20mph the transmission doesn't hold back any longer and you have to put your foot on the brake hard. It is not a good feeling. On may 22, 2009 I called the salesman and he told me to come in and drive another 2010 Camry to see if that transmission acted the same since this was the first year for the new six speed automatic. I took it in on the 22nd and the salesman and I took a new 2010 Camry out for a drive and it acted the same way. So the conclusion was that all the 2010 Camrys were the same and I would have to live with it. My wife is very leary about driving this car and afraid she will run into someone. We haven't had a problem with the accelerator, but the transmission seems to be a problem. We are very concerned now that the other problems have arisen about the Camry.

8 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/22/2003

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that when driving low speeds, the transmission does not engaged. I took two to three seconds before the transmission would shift in gear. The dealer replaced the computer chip and upgraded the transmission which only minimally corrected the failure. A complaint was filed with the Toyota manufacturer for the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000 the current mileage is 87,000. Updated 03/11/10 the consumer stated the transmission seemed to hesitate for a couple of seconds when pressing the accelerator pedal. When the transmission did engage, the vehicle lurched forward. Updated 05/05/10.
