2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 55 mph, a loud booming noise suddenly emitted from the front driver's seat area. After stopping and inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front driver and passenger side seat belts retracted and could not be used. The plastic buckle covers for the seat belts came apart. In addition, the air bag and seat belt sensors were flashing. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000.

After I got out of the parking lot at a supermarket the air bag sensor came on. This vehicle was under warranty because of a faulty air bag sensor and a wire harness was added.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2012

When stopped at a traffic signal, both the driver and passenger seat belts and air bags deployed with no warning. There was no accident; the car had been completely stopped at the light. Vehicle was maintained in excellent condition before this event. No injury was sustained. A certified Toyota service center determined that it was a malfunction in the airbag sensors and a short in the pre-tensioner assemblies. Alerted Toyota manufacturing of the issue. . . .
