The contact owned a 2006 Toyota Corolla. While another vehicle was merging onto the highway, the contact depressed the brake pedal to decelerate, but ended up rear ending the merging vehicle. The front driver side air bag violently deployed, causing chest injuries to the contact that required medical attention. The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries that also needed medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing facility and deemed destroyed. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
Takata recall - passenger airbag was fixed from a 2015 recall and right after the fix the light went on for the driver's side airbag.
I was notified by the dealership that a recall for passenger side airbags was currently in place. When I tried to make an appointment, they told me it would be a 4-6 month wait! that's a long time to be driving an unsafe vehicle or are they discriminating against an older model Toyota? anything I can do to speed this up?.
Takata recall - after getting my passenger airbag replaced in Feb 2016 from the takata2015 recall, I was advised by the dealer that now my driver side airbag needed to be replaced. Per the Toyota dealer invoice # 451453, "open in d squib circuit" aka spiral cable. This should be part of the takata recall but I haven't received any notification of such.
Takata recall I received a recall notice from Toyota in June 2015, letting me know about the problem with the passenger side airbag. In the notice, they said "until the remedy becomes available in your location, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat. " since then I've contacted Toyota several times to try to find out when the replacement airbag would be available, but they are unable to give me any time frame whatsoever. Also, their representative who answered the phone at the toll-free number Toyota provided told me that if we don't feel safe in the vehicle, we could go to a Toyota dealer and request a replacement vehicle until Toyota is able to remedy our vehicle. When I went to the Toyota dealer with that information, they told me it wasn't true, and that they could not provide another vehicle. My concern is that Toyota is unable or unwilling to give me any kind of a time frame of when the replacement airbag will be available in our part of the country. Meanwhile, have decided to not use the front passenger seat, based on Toyota's recommendation, and that doesn't work for us. In addition, the resale value of the vehicle has decreased substantially because of the airbag problem. I feel that Toyota should do a better job of letting us know an approximate date for the replacement part, or they should provide us with a temporary replacement vehicle, as their own employee suggested from a phone number Toyota asked us to call.
I have been notified that my 2006 Toyota Corolla has a safety recall notice stating that the passenger side airbag could potentially deploy causing metal fragments to pass through the cushion of the airbag which could cause serious injury and/or death to the vehicle occupants. I have called Toyota motor sales in torrance, California and have been told that there is no timeline of when the airbag will be replaced. I strongly believe that is totally unreasonable not to have a tentative date of replacement and not offer stipends for rental vehicles or even a free inspection of the airbag in question. Toyota currently and has been putting my life in danger as well the occupants of my vehicle on a daily basis.
Received notice for recall regarding front passenger side airbag four months ago and have not been notified as to time frame for repairs. Temporary remedy severely limits use of my car. Problem has been known for several years and want my car fixed.
Corolla was stopped in traffic and rear-ended by another vehicle, pushing the Corolla into and partially under the large SUV in front of it that was also stopped in traffic. Corolla was totaled and only the passenger-side front air bag deployed. Neither side airbags or the driver side front air bag deployed.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving at approximately 30 mph through an intersection when another vehicle crashed into the driver side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy and two people were injured. A police report was filed. The body shop technician stated that the air bags should have deployed based on the speed at which the impact occurred. The manufacturer requested pictures to determine why the air bags failed to deploy and the insurance company was investigating the failure as well. The current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000.
Passenger side airbag deployment can cause fatality. This is a nine (9) year old car. The replacement part may be three (3) years away, when the car will be twelve (12) years old. Interim options of either disabling the airbag or not sitting in the passenger seat are very poor solutions. If Toyota can hold out long enough all defective cars will be off the road and no repairs will be necessary. This outcome is very bad, the resolution is not adequate. Disappointed to realize that car owner and passenger safety is not a priority concern for NHTSA, but rather the focus seems to be on maintaining happy car manufacturers. A proper resolution would be to repair the car in September 2015.
Toyota was supposed to replace the rusted wheels but it appears they either just repainted them or replaced them with another defective wheel. The wheels are rusting excessively. I received a recall notice advising me that my passenger side airbag was on recall list but part is not available at this time no mention was made of the driver side or side impact airbags. When I telephoned Toyota, I was told by Toyota that no recall was being issued for driver side or side impact airbags. This car has had surge issues, rusted wheels, tires 6 and 8 years old at time car was purchased as a brand new vehicle, now shrapnel danger from airbags with no recall. I put 8500 miles on car first year I owned it. Then surge occurred and now it only has 14500 miles since I am afraid to drive it. Toyota wants me to give it to dealer to hold until it is repaired. No guarantee re damage due to car sitting on dealers lot for months I. E. Rusted brakes, engine, etc from sitting unused for months. This is ridiculous. Toyota should be made to take back this vehicle and replace it with new Corolla. I bought it new since I was retiring and now retired and can not afford new car. So I am stuck with it and can not drive it or enjoy my retirement or visit relatives since I can not drive car on highway. It is not safe to drive.
