6 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

2003 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states problems with vehicle accelerating. The consumer stated she was traveling at the posted speed limit, when the sign ahead indicated to reduce speed ahead. The consumer reduced her speed to the posted limit by pressing down on the brake. As she attempted to brake, the vehicle continued to increase in speed and a loud noise was present. The consumer stated she continued to press harder on the brake and she could feel the abs activating. The abs sounded like a high pitched noise and pulsating very fast. The consumer finally came to a complete stop, before going through an intersection. However, the engine was emitting a loud roaring sound. The consumer shifted the gear from drive 1 to drive 2 and the vehicle shuddered. She tried to shift to park, but as she got to reverse the vehicle tried to buck, so she put the gear in neutral and turned off the vehicle. Updated 08/10/11. At times, when accelerating from a stop, he had no control over the amount acceleration delivered to the vehicle. The speed would increase more than desired. At speeds above 35 mph, when in overdrive, the engine speed would suddenly drop. The dealer confirmed the problem and Toyota's response was the torque converter locked up and caused the engine speed to change and they recommended the consumer shift to third gear.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving at approximate speeds of 20-25 mph and approaching a traffic stop. As he proceeded to accelerate from the stop, the vehicle would not respond. Suddenly, there was an unusual increase in engine rpms and the vehicle abnormally accelerated at a rapid rate of speed. Failure Date: 03/06/2010

2009 Toyota Corolla with unintended acceleration. The consumer stated he had not experienced any sudden acceleration problems with the vehicle. However, he did receive a recall notice in the mail and complied by taking the vehicle to the dealer to have the repairs done on February 17, 2010. However, on March 6, 2010, the consumer made a right turn on a street that was curvy and was relatively steep descending toward an intersection. He gently applied the brakes 2-3 times during the descent to maintain a speed of 15-20 mph. At no time did he depress the accelerator during the descent and the engine was idling as the vehicle coasted to the bottom of the hill. When he approached a four-way stop sign at the bottom of the hill, he depressed the brake pedal normally to come to a full stop. Instantly, the engine raced and roared. The consumer immediately shifted the automatic transmission into neutral and turned the engine off. He restarted the engine with his foot on the brake pedal and the gear selector in neutral and it started with the same roar. He turned it off again and waited a couple of minutes. He decided to try one more time and the vehicle operated in normal mode. The consumer also stated since the vehicle was garaged, the doors were barely kept locked. Over the last 6-9 months about once a month when the consumer entered the garage, he discovered the doors were locked. The consumer believed the electronic door locking system was being randomly activated.
