1 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 2008 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

My wife was entering a perpendicular parking spot, she was approximately 10 to 15 feet from a retaining wall when all of a sudden our 2008 Toyota Corolla accelerated. Her foot was on the brake, bringing it slowly into the parking spot, and to a stop. The car all of a sudden accelerated and sounded like some one accelerating the car if it was in park. Our daughter and grandson's were in the car. The car hit the retaining wall causing $2500 damage to the front of the car. The retaining wall was made of railroad ties. A tie was knocked out of place (also rotten) this happened on private property, so authorities were not called. The air bags did not deploy, mainly because the car went up on the wall. Had she not been turning into a parking place, she would have went straight into a crowd of families. The Toyota dealer was contacted, they were not interested in checking it out. Toyota company was contacted, they pulled the data out of the computer, and checked the car out for brakes. Accelerator pedal, and floor mats, five weeks after the accident. We received a letter from Toyota stating the incident was not a result of any type of manufacture design or defect. During the time I was dealing with Toyota I did some internet surfing trying to find information on Toyota's having unintended acceleration (vehicle speed control). While looking in a consumer protection web page, "www-odi. Nhtsa. Got. Gov/complaints/results. Cfm" I found that hundreds of Toyota Corollas have had vehicle speed control problems, like ours. They are all similar, just a little different time during driving, but most happened while coming to a stop, and with different levels of damage. Toyota is no help, it they were, they would be admitting they had a problem. The linkage between the accelerator pedal, and computer on these Toyotas is electronic. It is my feeling the computer is getting a noise spike, or have a timing problem in their computer. Now I have a car that my wife won't drive. Updated ivoq 02/10/11.

2 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/20/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while depressing the brakes from 5 mph, there was an unusual increase in engine rpms. The vehicle began to abnormally accelerate until the contact placed the vehicle into neutral and shut off the engine. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic who advised there could be a linkage defect in the accelerator pedal. The contact removed the drivers side floor mat and has not had any further unintended acceleration issues. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 78,000. Updated 11/03/10.

3 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

I bought a Toyota Corolla March 2009 ,on about sept. 1, 2009 I was driving around palos verdes I saw donald trupm's golf course. So I pulled in and drove through the drop off area and ask the guy that was out there for a flyer and he gave me one and them I went to the stop sign to leave. I was pulling out and I saw a small truck coming so I jumped on the accelerator to get ahead of truck and when I let up on the accelerator the car didn't slow down. I then had to push on my brakes as hard as I could while pulling on the strewing whelelreally hard to help me push the brake pedal real hard. The car would not stop running fast it got stuck in passing gear mold and won't stop from really racing the engine. ! was real lucky there was a place to pull of the road,so I pulled into a small parking area and put the car into park,I turned the key off and them I stared the car again and it was still racing the engine really really fast. So I turned the key off again and I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to drive down the hills in palos verdes because that was really scary and I think that if I wasn't use to being around car's with my x-husband a lot, like pulling car's with a rope to start them and then slamming on the brake when it started to keep from running into the car that was towing me. . Some other people could panic and have a really bad accident. So any way I had a friend with me and I opened the hood and ask her to get into the drivers sit to pump on the gas peddle I tried to see were the linkage was to see if I could do something to stop the motor from racing. I could not see where the linkage was and I didn't want take the cover of the motor because I haven't done that on newer car's. So igot back into the drivers seat and got my purse out to call the automobile club but before I did that I thought I would try starting the car one more time and it was o. K. I took the car to Toyota to check it they couldn't get to do the same thing and tried to blame it on the carpet.
