Uncontrolled maximum acceleration after shifting into gear. Occurred after shifting gears such as parking. It represents a definite safety issue. There is no warning of occurrence. It has happened about 6 times in the past 4 years. I do not drive often. I contacted Toyota who referred me to the dealer. I had it checked by the Toyota dealer, who denied there is a problem. I would welcome a independent inspection. I have notified the national highway traffic safety administration in April but have heard nothing from them since.

My mother got in the car and as soon as the car was put on drive, the car accelerated to its max potential, but when she attempted to hit the brakes they did not respond. So max acceleration, on its own, and brakes did not work. She ended up in the hospital for 9 days suffering a broken rib, front teeth missing, they had to sew her tongue back together, both cheeks shattered, broken clavicle and she has a hole right under the back of her skull. Miraculously, after she flipped to the side and took out two trees, the third tree flipped her back to right side up, and stopped the vehicle completely.

I am not sure exactly what happened but their was indeed an internal systems failure of some sort that definitely needs to be resolved and the public needs to be made aware of. I lost control of my vehicle do to some circumstance beyond my control and I was nearly killed an a father and son as well. I hope the government gets to the bottom of this and makes all humans aware of this threat to our way of life and human's lifes in general. Regardless I was driving and minding my own business and causing no harm to anyone when I lost control of my vehicle and it swerved to the right in an intersection causing an accident. Please utilize our tax money properly and make sure the people responsible for this are held accountable in accordance with the law and make the public aware of who they are. I thank you for your assistance in making sure humans and businesses are held accountable under the law of the laws of the country in relations to vehicle safety.
As I was driving my check engine light turned and also another message saying “drive-start control malfunction”. A few second after another light came one showing “engine coolant temp high. On 11/24/24 I experienced this mechanical failure as I was driving. I was driving behind another car, where my car suddenly lost power and randomly accelerated almost causing me to crash behind the car in front of me. Thankfully I had time to press on the brakes to prevent me from crashing. I also did some research to see if other drivers also experienced this fault and seems that a lot of people with these Toyota Corolla and rav4 models. I also found that an active lawsuit is ongoing against Toyota regarding this same issue. This definitely should be something that needs to be recalled as it puts our lives at risks to either crash or even catch on fire due to overheating. My vehicle gets serviced regularly.

At around 36,500 miles, my Toyota Corolla began experiencing issues with the coolant bypass valve, leading to engine overheating. This malfunction has significantly impacted my ability to drive safely, as the vehicle displays a notification every five seconds, obstructing my view of the digital speedometer and making it difficult to accurately monitor my speed. The issue was not indicated by a check engine light but a persistent "engine maintenance required" message. This defect poses a serious safety risk, and there's a potential class-action lawsuit in progress regarding this very issue, suggesting Toyota might have known about the defect but failed to disclose it. The faulty component is not available for inspection upon request. As more people began to experience similar circumstances, it could lead to fatalities. Other participants to the forums says the issues start when their covered warranty expires. Within these forums there's a inconstancy of service centers honoring fixes, with no cost, knowing that there is an issue. I took the car to both a third-party mechanic and an authorized dealership, and both confirmed the problem. I was quoted $732. 85 for the parts and labor within my area. I also called Toyota global which I was told "a low mileage car shouldn't be having this issue", however, there are countless of forums saying otherwise. **Toyota models affected** 2019 Toyota rav4 2020 Toyota rav4 2021 Toyota rav4 2022 Toyota rav4 2023 Toyota rav4 2019 Toyota Corolla 2020 Toyota Corolla 2021 Toyota Corolla 2022 Toyota Corolla 2023 Toyota Corolla [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. We own a 2016 Toyota Corolla sport model. 4 door sedan. We first started to notice a loud sound that was seemingly coming from the front of the car. It was a whining, rattling sound. The car's mileage is 87k. We took it into the shop, we were first told that it sounded like a bearing going out in the wheel. Then we took it to a licensed Toyota dealership. The dealership then tells us that it is actually due to the transmission chain, and our transmission will need to be replaced for $8900!! so I begin to dig online, and find that our model is the same years of other Toyota models that Toyota has a known problem with. This is a major issue, and puts our safety at risk if the transmission just suddenly goes out. The Toyota dealership has confirmed that we have an issue, and are saying that the transmission must be replaced, effectively decommissioning our work commuter vehicle until we can get this sorted. It was diagnosed by a licensed Toyota technician, but it can be inspected by a insurance rep/mechanic upon request. There were no warnings, no lamps, no codes. We just heard the noise, which is seemingly getting worse and louder. Which appeared about 7/15/24. The car has had it's routine maintenance done per the manufacturers specifications. The fluids are routinely checked, and it is taken in to a Toyota dealership for it's servicing, with certified maintenance records. It was never noted on oil changes that this was an issue, or that the transmission fluid was ever an issue. We do not drive this car hard, we do not abuse it. It is our commuter. And now we are looking at having to replace the transmission for essentially the same cost as the car itself.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving at 5 mph exiting a parking lot, when the vehicle accelerated, veered to the left, and crashed into a gate. No warning lights were illuminated and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injury to the right shoulder, right foot, and right hand, but did not seek medical attention. No police report was filed. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a towing company. Additionally, the contact stated in 2021 while reversing from a parking space, as the vehicle was driving forward, it veered to the left and crashed into a tree. The vehicle was towed to the to be diagnosed and repaired. Per the contact, the dealer offered no diagnosis or reason for the acceleration. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

The car wouldn’t break a few months back causing it to smash into the person infront of me ever since then and getting repaired nothing has fixed it.
Phone charging cord is prone to getting pulled into the steering column and extremely difficult to remove. When I was able to remove the cord, I discovered a wire or spring the steering wheel assembly must have come undone, because the airbag light is on, and my cruise control no longer works, and neither do the steering wheel controls for the radio.
Recently purchased a used 2017 Toyota Corolla. During the test drive I did not attempt to use the cruise control as it was only driven on city or small highways. Travel with the car at those locations has been good. Yesterday while on a freeway, I used the cruise control. It started out okay, but when I got to a downhill or uphill location, the car engine got very loud. The rpm’s revved to an extremely high level and the car accelerated and kept accelerating beyond the cruise set speed. I became very scared and didn’t know what was happening. Luckily I had quick thinking to hit the brakes immediately. I actually pulled over and stopped due to the issue and my nerves. The engine looked okay so once calmed, I began traveling again. I wanted to use the cruise on the freeway, so attempted a second time later. The same exact thing happened in the uphill / downhill scenario. I realized there is something wrong and it is not a good issue at all! this morning I began researching things related to the car. Prior to my purchase, I had checked for any outstanding recalls (which there were none) and problems people may have had with this car. There were no general concerning things I saw. This morning I began searches specific to cruise control issues and found discussions and even videos pertaining to cruise problems. People mention an array of scenarios and possible reasons such as the brake pedal sensor not working. Then I came across this site where other people described the same exact problem and safety concern of mine. I agree with all of them that it is definitely scary and thank goodness the brake works otherwise it would be a major safety concern!! I am now concerned and wondering why after many people have problems with this, there is not a fix or something being done?.

I was going to work on 12/15/2022. There was a stop sign and I needed to take a right turn in order to join the freeway-10 east highway to head on to work. It was about 6: 40 am approximate time. There were too many cars ahead of me at the stop sign. My brakes failed to hold on while I waited for my turn. There were at least 3-4 cars ahead of me. Therefore I did not want to hurt anyone or any other car ahead of me. Therefore I veered off to my right-hand side where there was some space and tried to stop the car but it did not do so. Therefore, my car had to hit the high-way pole to come to a stop. The airbags deployed and hit me more to my right side. The car got totaled as per California casualty insurance information. I am glad to be alive. I went later to the hospital as there were no direct visible injuries.

Potential safety issue regarding the cruise control for all 2023 Toyota Corollas and possibly all Toyota's with the safety sense 3. 0 system. On these vehicles the cruise control is turned on automatically when the vehicle is started. There is a white indicator icon illuminated on the drivers display to inform the driver. However the owners manual says you have to turn the system on by pressing the driving assist mode switch inferring the cruise control should not automatically be turned on. Pressing this switch only allows you to switch modes from dynamic radar cruise control to standard cruise control. My dealer advised that this is normal for my vehicle and the cruise control system is working as designed. I agree all functions of the system work, except there is no way to turn off the cruise control. Nothing about turning off the cruise control is stated in the owners manual either. Every Toyota from 2022 and older, and some 2023's, have an on off switch. The issue is once the cruise control is set (now a green illuminated icon), the set speed is always on the display until the vehicle is turned off. Even if you "cancel" the set speed, the speed is always there (white icon) so you can "resume" (green icon). If you no longer have use for the cruise control there is no way to just turn it off. Example: you have just exited the interstate highway onto a city street that is 25 mph. The cancelled set speed is still displaying 70 mph and while driving you accidentally hit the resume button on the steering wheel and the vehicle accelerates and hits the car in front of you. I know there are anti-collision features that might help, but a startled/panic driver can react in a very negative way and still cause an accident or injury. Even Toyota says not to depend on these safety features alone that it is the drivers responsibility to operate the vehicle safely. I did notify Toyota brand engagement center, who filed a case, but said I would not be informed unless a recall.

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota. The contact stated that while driving forward into a parking space the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and crashed into a building wall. During incident the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged but the airbags did not deploy. The driver sustained a neck injury and the front passenger sustained a bruise rib, both required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.
I had the airbag repaired during the recall. However, the airbag warning light remains on. In addition, the speedometer has stopped at 299,999 although the trip meter still works. The paint is peeling and the roof is rusting which is classic for Toyota.

Vehicle's cruise control got stuck and would not turn off by the brake, the cruise control off button. The only way it would shut off is by swtitching the car into “b-(low gear/engine braking). Was cruising at 70 mph, and then the cruise control kept speeding the vehicle up to 100 mph, until I switched it into the “b”-(low gear/engine braking). Now if I wasn’t familiar with this type of car this could have been a tragedy that could have taken place on August 01, 2022.

I reached a hill using the cruise control at 65mph. The vehicle accelerated to account for the loss of speed due to the hill. The engine accelerated the vehicle to well over 70 mph and revved up to very high rpms. The engine remained at high rpms and higher than normal speeds until I manually disengaged the cruise control. The engine should not be revving up to and remaining at such high rpms for such an extended duration.
My 2021 Toyota Corolla, with 3000 miles and less than a year on it, is repeatedly exhibiting a "check gas cap" warning message followed a day or two later by a "check engine, visit your dealer" warning. This has happened twice. I have returned to the dealer once to have the system reset, after which the same sequence of warning messages recurred. This message wipes out my dashboard display and keeps me from using my cruise control and radar distancing feature. I have not yet determined what other safety features are neutralized by this recurring malfunction. Emmett r. Vick.

Glare in the cluster panel during the day. This causes me to not be able to see what is being shown on the cluster panel such as speed, engine temperature, or any other warning lights. I believe not being able to see the speed I am going because of this design error is very dangerous.
Was drive west down gooding Ave in bristol,r. I 02809 when my vehicle idle surged and car was going over 50mph with out my foot on the accelerator. . When trying to control the vehicle I couldn't even use the brakes stepping on the brake would not slow down the vehicle I ended up side swiping a vehicle at a traffic light and proceeded through the intersection through a fence onto a person's lawn clearly this was a unintended acceleration issue.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla is once again exhibiting undesired acceleration. Toyota has deemed this vehicle repaired in response to the recall that covered this issue. I was told it was caused by the floormat which it obviously was not. The accelerator pedal sticks and they will not fix it under the previous recall. Is there any steps I can take to get this situation resolved? I was told the car is no longer under warranty so any repairs regarding this issue would be put on me.
The vehicle does not keep the set speed. Ex. When cruise is set to 65, the vehicle will remain at 64 never making it to 65. This occurs with clear road ahead and no traffic.
My car is accelerating when my foot is off of the pedal and when in park, it is revving like I am pressing down on the gas pedal. I put it in reverse to test it to make sure I was experiencing what I just thought had happened. As soon as I put the gear in reverse, and released my foot from the break, the car spead down my driveway. I breaked, put gear in drive, and when I released my foot from the break pedal, again it sped up almost crashing into my house. When I put the car in park, the engine became louder as if I was pressing down on the gas pedal. I checked the pedals below. The rug or nothing else was near the pedal, as can happen at times. This morning I tested it out again on my way to work. It was a repeat of yesterday. The car is speeding up without me putting my foot on the drive pedal, by me simply lifting my foot of of the break. And when I park, it gets loud as if I am pressing on the gas pedal. This is very dangerous and I am afraid to drive my car until I can get it to a mechanic.
There have been multiple times where the car accelerates on it's own, suddenly. The latest was last evening. It usually happens when I'm just going to accelerate slighting (at a stop sign, or end of the driveway) where I give it just a little gas, and the car accelerates much more quickly than intended. I've looked for a recall, but cannot find one for this. Please advise.
Vehicle went out of control in regards of speed when traveling downhill with cruise control on. Vehicle began heavily decelerating and accelerating along with high engine rpm. This is extremely dangerous and I am unable to use cruise control because of it.
The car speed variable when I try speed up became slow or sometimes it speed up one time it stops in the middle of rail crossing and completely stop then I moved out and the car pushed up other side and the car accelerated not working properly nod the fuel system also I have big doubt about this car!.
The problem seems to occur when activating the full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control (drcc) feature, as detailed next. During a recent trip, the car behaved in a potentially dangerous, life-threatening manner when the drcc function was activated. Specifically, the car seems to increase the rpm of the engine to dangerous levels when going down a slope even if there is a speed limit set using the cruise control. In other words, the car does not change gear properly to keep the rpm in normal ranges. The engine’s rpm getting close, entering the red zone indicated by the rpm tachometer, and staying there even for seconds may cause an engine explosion which at highway speeds can be extremely dangerous for the passengers and other nearby vehicles on the road.
My abs and traction control light are on.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, there was an intermittent unintended acceleration without the accelerator pedal being depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle was able to be stopped. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, but no cause for the failure was found. The dealer replaced the floor mats. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
My car is a manual. I was driving about 25mph when in between 3rd and 4th the car engine revved up to about 5k or 6k rpm. I tried to just hit the gas but it wouldn't go back down. I did not release the clutch. I had to turn the car off and restart it so it wouldn't do that again. It happened again after that and I did the same thing by restarting it. I noticed a different pressure in the gas pedal with my foot during this occurrence. After the second time, it did not occur again. This is the second time this has happend. It happened about 10,000miles before. This happened at about 101,500miles.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated while driving at an undisclosed speed, without warning. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Dealer stated that there was a chemical buildup on the inside of the windshield that could affect the safety camera sensor (they claimed it was probably windex). Dealership claimed that the camera enclosure is not sealed and particulate may enter the enclosure. Said the problem is not covered under warranty. What happens is someone is a smoker or lives on a dirt road? does Toyota expect particulate in the enclosure to be acceptable? this may impact the performance of the safety systems, especially if there is sun glare. I bought the car in October 2019.
Car suddenly all the dashboard lights came on at once brake lights, abs lights, power steering lights, and speedometer. I've been to the dealership they ripped me off said they had no clue what was wrong.
First, the door no open with the control. Second, when I drive the car its no have power, its in slow velocity. When I put in drive, beginning to tremble. Have the light, that said "check".
I was traveling north OH hwy. 45 out of galveston TX . The car`s cruse control was set on 60 mph . I had just cleared the last overpass and was on the flat road when the motor ran up to 4000 rpm with no speed increase. The cruse was still set at 60 mph. . The car bumped and the the rpm. Dropped to 1600 rpm . I call the dealer and they told me to just drive it and watch it . I don`t think this is a normal operation .
