The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 40 mph. The vehicle was restarted and all the warning lights illuminated. In addition, the vehicle failed to reverse and moved forward. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifter cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On a separate occasion, while attempting to park, the vehicle accelerated without warning while the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the contact crashed into a light post. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Driving on a straight interstate. Speed limit was 70 mph. Road surface was wet. Drove over water, engine abruptly surged, similar to pushing accelerator to floor. Front end veered abruptly left. I applied brakes. Car spun backwards. Rear right wheel made contact with the metal cable-type barrier on left side of highway.

When I take my foot off the acclerator, it feels like I have the cruize control. The car deselerate very slowly for anywhere between . 5 to 1 mile then the rpm drops suddenly as it should when you first take your foot of the pedal. The other related problem is that if I'm just trying to maintain a constant speed anywhere between 50 and 60 miles/hr it feels like the engine stalls for a very brief moment then shortly after comes back to the original rpm. When I drive car down hill try to apply break to maintain the speed of the car acceleration increases suddenly 3 to 4 thousand rpm and after 3 to 4 seconds cars come to normal engine rpm both problems describe above are easily reproducable and my local Toyota dealer said its normal. Its very scary to drive this car and since 3 years I was complaining to local dealer and get same answer every time its normal. Please do some thing about this.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving 55 mph when the brakes were applied but the brakes did not respond and the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The front tires released smoked and the vehicle was turned around several times before coming to a stop in a dirt area. The front tires, rotors and cables were damaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer modified the accelerator, replaced the rotors and the cables. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 124,000.
On November 16, 2010, while trying to park my Toyota Corolla 2003, the vehicle accelerated unintentionally crashing into a fence continued by crashing into some wooden pallets. I am the original owner of the car. My daughter a few weeks before noticed that the car will stay accelerated to a minimum of 1800rpm. The air bags were not activated and I did not received major injury. My neck was hurting for a while. I was lucky because there were two propane tanks following the fence. My son notified Toyota in puerto rico and filed a complaint #cr12287. He was told that my car was not included in the recalls because it did not have an electronic fuel control unit and that the gas in my car operated by a cable. The auto shop mechanics that repaired all the front damage of the car noticed the car accelerator too high. On November 24, 2010 the car was picked up by my son and was taken to Toyota for inspection. The Toyota employee tried to convince my son to sign an authorization to access all the data in the car computer memory but will not provide a copy of the data to the customer. My son refused to sign the release form. Waiting for the results of the inspection.

I was decelerating with my right foot on the brake to stop at a red light. There was a car ahead of me at the light, and as I pulled up behind it, I put my right foot on the brake to come to a complete stop. When I hit brakes, I found that the car was not stopping and that the car was accelerating. I put both feet on the brake, and pulled the emergency brake but the car continued to accelerate until it ended up pushing on the car ahead of me. I did everything I could think of to stop the car, but was unable to do so until I turned the key off. As far as I know, there were no injuries, air bags didn't deploy, no tickets were issued and the bumpers of both cars were not dented, but had very deep scrapes on them. The mat was hooked at the time and was not involved and I didn't touch the gas. I had my husband follow me to my dealership, where I asked them to inspect the car and let me know if it was safe to drive. They refused to inspect it and referred me to my insurance company. I did that, but I also talked to Toyota's service line in California and they said the best they could do was arrange for an inspection with results in appx 74 days. My insurance company had an independent inspection, but all he told me was that my accelerator was not "cable". The Toyota company told me I could go ahead and have the body work done as long as the repairs did not have anything to do with the brake or the ignition. Police were called at the scene, but did not meet with us.

2003 Toyota Corolla le automatic transmission 4 door. First time incident. Westbound highway 401 near woodstock ontario with cruise control @ 100 kmh in right lane and slightly accelerated to middle lane to avoid merging incoming traffic from roadside gas station. Accelerator pedal went to floor without driver assistance. Strong braking did not stop car. Stomping on accelerator did not stop car. Turning off cruise control did not stop car. Fastest speed was 150kmh @ 7500 rpm. Shifted into neutral and when speed at 120kmh @ 4000 rpm, the brakes started working. Slowed and pulled off onto shoulder and parked the car. Two minutes later, still in park, idled at 1900 rpm. Able to drive to work. Over the phone, dan from competition Toyota told me that probably the throttle box or throttle cable had become gummed up and should have been cleaned as part of the Toyota 60,000km maintenance. I have not used Toyota dealer to service the car due to affordability. I do have a regular mechanic who services the vehicle. Took it into competition Toyota and problem was a dirty throttle plate which was cleaned at a cost of $70. Dealer also did a recall repair on a window and said there were too many mats on the drivers side which should be removed. I told dan that driver mats were not the cause and in the presence of two Toyota employees, I showed him photos that I took of the dashboard just after I pulled off the highway. I asked if the car was safe to drive, he said yes, and I have been driving the car since. Reported this incident to transport canada.
I was driving along a residential street (35 mph) and I was stopped at a stoplight. When the light changed, I began accelerating uphill. Once I reached my desired speed of 35 mph, I removed my foot from the accelerator but the car continued to increase in speed (I was still traveling uphill). I immediately put the car into neutral, pulled off to the side of the road, and turned the ignition off. Fifteen minutes later, I turned the car back on and the engine immediately revved up, although my foot was not on the accelerator; based on the sound of the engine, I would estimate that it surpassed 4000 rpm. I turned the car off and 15 minutes later I turned the car on only to meet with the same results. When the tow truck driver arrived, he noticed that the throttle valve was stuck in the open position. He closed the throttle and this fixed the problem. A few days later, I brought the car to a Toyota dealer. They told me that there was a kink in the throttle cable that may have caused it to get stuck. However, they were not able to provide a definitive diagnosis because the problem was not repeatable and, therefore, did not replace the cable. I have had the car for 6. 5 years and this has only happened twice (the other time was in early 2008 and occurred on a highway). In light of recent media reports on acceleration problems in Toyotas, I must note that I have the original floor mats and that they are, and always have been, properly secured in place. I did not notice whether or not the accelerator was stuck, but I was only traveling 35 mph, so the accelerator was not depressed enough to get caught under the floor mat. The parts are still available since I did not replace the cable.
When the vehicle goes 45mph it accelerates and decelerates on its own. The dealer has been notified.

When traveling down hill with the dealer installed cruise control on, vehicle will chug as if it is losing power or out of gas. Also, when it's raining. When vehicle is traveling on an incline, tires will spin. Cruise control will decelerate. Consumer states headlights are adjusted too low, hesistation feeling when traveling slightly down hill, dealer adjusted throttle cable but condition still exsists.
