36 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

On August 11, 2010, while driving our 2007 Toyota Corolla at about 40 mph the engine suddenly stopped running. We coasted and were able to get pulled off the road safely. The engine would not restart. We called our Toyota dealer service department and explained what was going on. They said there was a problem with the computer in the 2007 Corollas and that was probably what we were experiencing. We were instructed to have the car towed to the dealer and if that was the case, I. E. , computer failure, the tow charge and the repair would be covered under the vehicle warranty, they would hold a service spot open for us that very day and it would be taken care of when we arrived. They quoted a repair time of about 1 hour. We had the car towed to the dealer. It was a computer failure. The repair was completed in about the stated time. If this had happened on the highway in a construction zone where both sides of the road are lined with concrete abutments and there is no place to pull off our outcome may have been very different. It is frightening to think what could have happened to us with a stalled car in a highway construction zone with no way to get out of the flow of traffic. I think the fact that the car can just stop running while being driven has been underplayed.

39 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

Bought a used Toyota Corolla in texas at a Toyota dealer, on the way home to NY, after a few hundred miles, it died on the interstate and myself and my son spent the night in it, like the key was turned off. Loaded on a roll-back, and taken to a Toyota dealer, they said that they didn't know why, but they reprogrammed the computer. Now, $60 dollars poorer, down the road I go, another couple hundred miles, again it dies on the interstate, spent another night in it, onto another roll-back to another Toyota dealer. These folks tell me that I have bad computer sensors in the throttle body, they install a new one, charge me $1,300 dollars, and off I go, until a hundred miles down the road, it quits again on the interstate, this time on a dangerous spot on a blind curve. A police officer provided protection from on coming traffic until the tow arrived. Another rollback ride to the Toyota dealer. They do something more to it, down the road I go, finally making it home. Now I know that its not just my car. I think the Toyota company should have repaired the computer sensors in the throttle body at no charge. All three times that the Corolla quit, we were in a heavy traffic situation in the middle lane of a multi-lane interstate, and moving at the speed limit. We were extremely lucky that no one was hurt.

41 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Toyota issued a technical service (#ac002-06) bulletin regarding the condenser not being properly protected for the 05 and 06 Corolla models. They said that you could take the car to the dealership and they would install netting around the condenser- but if it is already broken- then you are out of luck. Mine has been broken for two years-now I am now spending over $500 to replace the condenser and my CO-worker drives an 06 model and hers has been broken for a year. This is a safety concern for people driving in extreme heat. We are taking a family trip to nv this weekend, so I had to bite the bullet and get mine fixed, but this is ridiculous. How can they admit a design flaw and then not fix it:( also- my car lost 4 hubcaps within 2 weeks from purchasing it and I have noticed several others around town with the same problem. While I got some cheap ones to replace the ones I lost- having your hubcaps fly off is a definite safety issue and concern.

2006 Toyota Corolla with 1zz-fe engine, less then 25,000 miles, has stalled at a stop sign/stop light when engine was warm. This has happened 3 times in the previous two months. The car has always re-started, but it is very unnerving, and I am worried about a more serious failure.

47 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

My 2005 Toyota Corolla ce has been randomly stalling on me when I turn, when im at red lights, when im accelerating and when im slowing down with no rhyme or reason. It just started one day and continues to do at random times and with random frequency. I do not feel safe when this happens and there is no way to determine when my gas pedal will quit working, no noise to let me know it is about to or has happened, no overheating of the engine, no spikes in the rpms or anything, it just does it. I was almost in an accident the other night at 11pm when I was at a red light and went to accelerate and there was no response, the person behind me almost rear-ended me because of this. I was able to take it to a mechanic who said the computer was reading it was a fuel actuator issue. They advised me to contact Toyota since that is the same failure that is being recalled on all the other vehicles. I have made several attempts to contact Toyota which haven't resolved anything yet, so my car is still stalling and nothing has been done to resolve it as of yet.

48 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

2007 Toyota Corolla stalled on the evening of 15 Apr 2010. The next morning we had the car towed to our Toyota dealer (where the vehicle was purchased). When I called the service advisor to tell him the vehicle was on the way and described what happened, he immediately stated the "OH, it's the computer" as if this was a fairly common occurrence. The repair was made at no charge but we were fortunate that it happened in front of our house and I was able to park the car on the street. There have been no more occurrences.

50 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/25/2010

2006 Toyota le - a few months back we had a stall out that we took in to Toyota dealer tricounty Toyota, limerick, PA and they said it was caused by computer module. Now we have a check engine lite on that we have to take in. With the acceleration problems asked for the brake override system which they would not put in as it was not a problem they said is this car on the recall list for the fuel pump and brake problems? I do not see it listed anywhere, and emailed to Toyota about this tonite.

51 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

On Friday, March 12, 2010, I was driving my 2007 Toyota Corolla home on my lunch hour and my car stalled twice on a sharp turn. I nearly lost control on the turn because the steering became (quite unexpectedly) very difficult. At first I didn't realize the car had stalled, causing the steering problem. That was the first time the car stalled. I immediately took it to my local Toyota dealership. They said it could be a computer problem, battery, alternator, etc. , and they'd run diagnostics on it. After being there over four hours, all they said was that the battery was "marginal" but it took a charge. I asked about putting in a new battery and the service rep said he didn't want to do that. I wasn't charged for the diagnostic or battery charge. I believe, now that I've heard about the stall issue today in the news, that this problem is why I wasn't charged for the diagnostic test; however, I was not informed there have been problems with stalling.

52 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/11/2010

This complaint is concerning my 2005 Toyota Corolla on the 11th of March 2010 while driving down the highway at approximately 60 miles an hour I went to accelerate to change lanes. As I pressed on the accelerator my car did not respond, and began to slow down. I turned the wheel to pull over to the shoulder and realized that I did not have power steering, thus confirming the overall stall. I managed to get to the shoulder and after about a minute I tried to turn the key and the car came back on. I was able to drive to don davis certified Toyota parts and repair. After running a three hour diagnostic was reported to me that "nothing was wrong" with the car. The computer showed no signs of any type of glitch or malfunction. I returned home, only to find a report several days later about Corollas suddenly stalling.

53 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

There was no warning. Drive car 400 miles per week. One day I drove car to commuter parking lot with no problem, that evening it started fine then stalled when I put it in gear. Took a while to start the 2nd time and stalled again. This happened 4 times then I had it towed to dealer. Dealer said the engine computer needed to be replaced with no real explanation. I even asked to speak to the mechanic who could not provide an explanation other than it happens. Computer was replaced and the car runs fine. They said it was only warrantied for 1 year. As I was away from home I had to rent a car for 2 days while they made the repairs.

54 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

2007 Toyota Corolla sometimes won't start. Turns over fast with starter, but won't start. Then, the next try, it does. May be related to the same problem as stalling. Also the steering feels too stiff, makes it hard to keep in the lane when it is windy.

55 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

The problem started about 6 months ago - while shifting my 2005 Corolla (typically when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and then from 2nd to 3rd gear). In order to not make my car stall - I would just give it a lot of extra gas to ensure that it wouldn't stall. The problem occurs regularly - almost every time I drive (about 1 time a week). The problem only occurs when starting and stopping and shifting in the low gears. After this problem started in Feb of 2010 - I took the car to a Toyota dealership. They hooked the car up to a computer and said it was fine. The dealership said they also took the car on a drive to see if it would do it then, and they claimed it didn't. So nothing was done at the that time. When I left the dealership, the car continued to shift harshly.

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

Bought new Dec 18, 2009. Toyota Corolla le 14 miles. When you go to stop at a red light or stop sign. The engine some times acts like it is going to stall. You touch the brakes just as you come to a dead stop. The engine rpms will drop to about 300 rpms the engine will shutter all most die and then go back to normal rpms about 500 to 600 hundred. This is an intermittent problem. You can not make the car do this. You may drive it 5 times and it will not do anything like that. You drive it the next time and it will do it three times in a roll when you stop. It has done this from the time it was new.

I have read about issues concerning Toyotas stalling out. I have a 2001 Corolla and my car has stalled out 4 times in the last three months. There was no precursor that was similar to each event. Each time I was in a parking garage or slowing to stop at a stoplight. However, I shudder to think if this happens on the freeway.

69 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/29/2009

2007 Toyota Corolla ce, purchased in July 2007, approx. 15,000 miles. On 7/29/09, car stalled to a complete stop while driving. Luckily, I was not driving on the highway (I-95) as I normally do. Stalled on my block after I made turn into street. After a minute, was able to restart with minimal engine power to travel another 100 feet. Had to repeat this until I reached my driveway. Car was towed to dealership. They told me that this was a defect (wire for the computer dislodged or fell off and caused the problem). There was no indication that this was going to happen. No time to pull off to side of the road. Only "check engine" light appeared when trying to restart engine. This is a very dangerous situation and without some indication that this will happen, there could have been a serious accident resulting in injury or worse. Dealer replaced the part that day.
