36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

On 11/9/2010 at 5:30 p. M. , my 2005 Toyota Corolla ce stalled on I-87 (NY state thruway--major deegan) in the bronx as it was being driven at 55 miles per hour. The car was operating normally when I left work in the bronx 20 min before. All of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car lost all power. The oil and battery lights also came on. I put on my hazards and managed to get from left lane to shoulder. The car stopped completely before I could get it off the highway and the back end of car was slightly on the road. I called aaa and they called the official company who has to tow cars off the thruway. No truck arrived for a long time--two passers by stopped and helped me push car onto shoulder. The car lights dimmed and eventually went out. The car had plenty of fuel when it was being driven. After the car stopped, the car seemed electrically dead and would not turn over at all. There was no sound at all or any cranking or sputtering. It seemed that the car lost all power and I was only able to get it off the road due to its momentum from being in motion. When no truck arrived after 45 minutes, I called 311 for assistance (nyc help line) and they contacted police who came and called another truck and sat with me with their lights on until tow truck arrived around 6:50 pm. It was towed to official towing station in bronx. The repair people told me the next day it might be due to an electrical problem. My car is under recall for the engine control module (ecm). The Toyota dealers in bronx said cars don't stall because of this problem and I would have to pay to have my car towed there to have it checked. I wanted them to look at it to see if ecm was the problem. On 11/11, when I called the official towing station to have car towed out, they said it was fuel pump and wanted 1100-1200$ to fix it. As of today, I am having the car towed to a local repair station where I leave to see if they can diagnose the problem and let me know what caused the stall.

37 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/24/2010

My 2005 Toyota Corolla, its engine warning light was illuminated in 2007. Then the car dealer replaced the computer system. In 2008, as the losing control, the car slid out of the road and hit the tree. In 2009, the warning light was illuminated again, this time they changed gasket and found the air can enter the engine and caused the engine problem (lose power and can't drive more than 30mph). Since then, we experienced such problems three times: when we drive, the car can suddenly lose power and can't drive more than 30mph, but it become normal and the mechanic worker can't find the problem the next day. We think this problem is very dangerous and need to report to your company.

38 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

I am driving my car going approx. 45 - 55miles a hour when suddenly the check engine light comes on. When this occurs the car gradually begins to slow down and will not allow me to accelerate. I can press the pedal down but the car does not read that I am pressing the pedal. Stability control light begins to blink and car gradually comes to a full stop. When I pull over the rpms are revving above 1 rpm but I am not pressing the gas. This has been going on and the dealer simply told one time I needed a new battery. I bought it from them. They said your alternator is bad and I replaced it and check engine and stability light come on again. I shouldn't have so many problem with a car that was bought brand new and is not even 2yrs old.

40 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/05/2010

My 2005 Toyota Corolla would not start one morning. I kept trying to start it and no clicking or sound of the car trying to turn over happened. Eventually it did start but had a very hesitating sound to it. The next day, it had the same problems so I tried charging the battery for a few minutes. This seemed to work and I was able to drive my car to work. As I was driving, the car began to shift hard and the check engine light came on. I called Toyota and a local Toyota dealership after discovering that my car was involved in a recall. Toyota then gave the go ahead to the dealership to replace the ecm, the part being recalled. The dealership replaced the part free of charge and the car seemed to be "fixed". Two days later. . . My car will once, not start.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/29/2010

My daughter's 2007 Corolla "check engine light" illuminated while driving back to college on 8/29/10. She stated that the car started to jerk periodically also. She was able to drive home safely the following day and I took it to my mechanic on 8/30/10. He said that there was a bulletin released regarding a recall on the ecm and to take it to the dealer for repair. I took it to Toyota mall of georgia and handed the service rep the printout of the bulletin and explained what had happened. I asked him if this had to do with the recent recall - he said that this wasn't recent since the date on the bulletin was 2007. He said probably the ecm needed to be replaced and would call when he knew for sure. A few hours later he said that the ecm was replaced at no charge. In the interim, I had done some research and found that there was a recall bulletin issued on 8/26/10 so when I picked up the car later that evening, I questioned a different service rep and he said he didn't know about any recall! huh? didn't the other rep tell me that this was from 2007? I said why did you replace the ecm then, he said because there is a start up issue with the ecm. I told him we weren't having start up trouble, but that the engine light came on and the car started to jerk. I told him what I had learned about the engine stalling while driving and asked him if these issues were fixed with this replacement and he said no, just the start up issue!! he said since there wasn't a recall on the stalling issue, they couldn't fix this. I was totally confused and did not feel safe putting my daughter back in that car. Now I see all these complaints going back to 2007 regarding this. Toyota has known about this for 3 years and has done nothing to inform the public. Meanwhile my daughter has basically been driving a time bomb for the past 3 years!! I don't feel that the replacement has corrected the problem, so now what is my recourse? please help!.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

Monday, August 23, 2010, while driving on a main highway with a hill my car stalled. My check engine light was the only thing showing in my dash. I pushed the gas pedal to the floor; the vehicle continued to slow down and I was frightened that someone would rear end me or that my car would start rolling back down the hill. Thank god no one was traveling at the legal speed of 65 mph when this happened. I turned my vehicle back in the direction that I came from to have my husband help me look for why this happened. He said most likely it was the battery and replaced it that evening. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, late evening I parked my car in a poteau oklahoma shopping center for about an hour after driving some twenty plus miles. I returned to my car; it appeared to start ok; however, when I shifted to drive it shifted hard and the vehicle began lurching forward. The check engine light had come back on. I shifted toward park and noticed that when it reached the reverse on gear shift console the hard shift lessened but in park no harshness or lurching. I phoned my husband that it had happened again and he came with the car hauler and hauled my vehicle home. Please do not allow Toyota corporation to issue only a technical service bulletin, my warranty (36,000) recently expired. I have not yet taken to service.

45 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

We bought a 2006 certified Corolla le on June 19, 2010 from a dealership in northern virginia. On August 18, 2010 my daughter was driving the car and while at stop light earlier that day her car hesitated and didn't want to move. That evening around 8:30 pm as she was driving her car, the road curved slightly to the right but she was not able to turn the wheel or depress the brakes. She crossed the on coming lane and the car was totaled. She was able to walk away from this with only hundreds of small cuts from glass. The initial thought was that she had hydroplaned but after further talking to my daughter she said that she tried to turn the steering wheel to follow the road but she couldn't because it was too hard and the brakes would not depress either. I had my mechanic go to the yard where the car was stored and read the computer and this is what he found: check engine light find p0430 evap system pressure sensor high input and in the history he found 2 codes: the same p0430 and b2799 engine immobilizer system fault. So as it seems now the car did shut off and she was not able to control the steering or brakes due to not having power. I have read that this is not the first report of this happening. Something should be done before someone gets hurt really bad or there is a fatal accident. I would like to know if being a certified car, should this have been detected before the car was sold? also, is the computer read before the car is sold to see if there has been or is a problem? if it is not read, then maybe it should be a new policy for the dealerships.

47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla that started exhibiting violent shaking while driving. Shortly after then check engine light came on. I took it to my local autozone for a diagnostics scan and it returned code "p2716 - pressure control solenoid". I discovered that Toyota currently has a TSB on this issue (tc015-07) but not an official recall. Even though no accident occurred in this case, this is a serious safety issue as the shaking slowed the car down and could have caused an accident had it had been on the highway. Other people have reported the car completely shutting of.

49 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Toyota Corolla ce 2007. Check engine light was on. Cruising on freeway at speed limit when engine shifts into a stall. Cannot accelerate and must pull over. Shut down car and restart, works fine but engine light still on. Calls dealer, they say a TSB was released concerning a faulty engine control unit in some 2007 Corollas. TSB was released in July 2009. I was never informed of potential problem until I called service department and described event. Scheduled for diagnosis and repair in two days, dealer says if it falls under TSB the ecu will be replaced under warranty. Very dangerous problem, I was driving late at night with very little traffic. If this had happened during busy rush hour traffic or even on crowded local road high risk of accident.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

I heard on the radio that you have had over 1,000 complaints about the 2005-06 Toyota Corollas with regard to engine control modules (ecms) and possible stalls. My 2006 Corolla started to stutter when I accelerated from 45 to 55 mph. I could tell that one of the spark plugs was misfiring and I was afraid the engine was going to stall in heavy traffic. The engine did not stall, but the check engine light came on. I searched the internet and found that Toyota had a bad batch of ecms in 2005-2006 , but did not to recall them. Instead, they waited to see which units actually failed before replacing the defective ecms. When I took the car to the dealership, I told the service writer that it appeared to be a defective ecm. He told me I was mistaken about the ecm and that it had nothing to do with the spark plug misfiring. After they checked the car, I was told that a plug had fouled out. I was charged over $500 to replace all of the plugs and the ignition coil, not just the one fouled plug . I was also charged $120 to clean what I was told would be the fouled fuel injector, but it was listed as intake cleaning service. ¿ I picked up the car and didn't get 2 miles from the shop before the check engine light came on again. On the second trip to shop they reset the light and said that they couldn't duplicate the condition again. So I took the car and drove it home. The next day on the way to work, the light came on again. On the third trip to the shop, they finally admitted the ecm had to be replaced. The ecm was free, but I am still out over $620 in repairs for damage caused by a defective ecm. My plugs had only 70,000 miles (mostly highway) on them and should have lasted until 120,000 miles. On top of the repairs, I wasted a lot of gas. Now that the ecm was replaced, I am getting 2 more miles per gallon.

56 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

I had an engine light come on and the car would run rough and the a/c would not run. Then the car would run okay and the a/c would be working. I took it to a Toyota dealership and they said I need a new evap canister and new a/c compressor . This was put on and I brought the car home. The a/c worked too well. . When the fan and heater were on the a/c kept right on running. I took it back and they replaced the control air, computer and still not working. Then they put another new computer on it and not working. Then they pulled the dash and checked the wiring. . Nothing. Then they did rewiring work, then they did circuit work and the a/c still does not work. I waited for two weeks for them to tell me when an eng will come look at the car. They had the car 6 out of 7 weeks and I finally brought the car home and it is sitting in the yard. . Car is running but I still have no a/c and I am still waiting for a call from the dealership. No one has ever called to tell me anything at all about the car. . . I have had to call them . I looked in the computer to find that Toyota had a problem with their 2006 Corolla a/c but never recalled. But I can't get anyone at the dealership to tell me anything at all about this.

57 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/21/2010

We got the recall notices for our two 2008 Corollas. . For the NHTSA campaign number: 10v384000. . Then we got the other letter saying that we can go and get our cars serviced. We did and there they told us that both our cars werent affected by the recall. Yet while we where waiting to be called up one of the mechanics told me that both our cars needed to get whatever they where going to do to them done. . Ever since then we have had our check engine light on, for both cars. . We have spent a large amount of money trying to pass smog checks in California. . . Are there any I dont know records of what circuit boards had that problem? I want for my mechanic to check if indeed the board we have on our cars wasnt a part of the recall or if we got screwed. . . Do the boards have serial numbers and is it know what serial numbers needed the recalls. The Toyota people didnt even open the hood of the car. . . We waited a couple hours to finally get called up and then they had the car two minutes and told us our car was good. Though it wasnt, it had all the symptoms of the recall. . I would like to know also what it is they said about the recall on ouyr cars. . Did they say they fixed them or what. That would be interesting to me. . Now unfortunately the kept the recall notices. . So I dont have any of those. . Ever since that recall its been an uphill battle wit this car.

59 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/11/2010

My Corolla 2007 stopped on the middle of the road with check engine light suddenly on and battery light is also on without any warning. After two minutes I was able to turn on and drew one block to a mechanic shop and asked them to check battery and other problems. Mechanic said battery is weak, he recommended to change battery, but he said some other problems may exist. I asked him to change battery. He changed and it started ok. No check engine light. After I drew three signals, car stopped on the middle of the road again with check engine light suddenly on without any warning and battery light is also on. I towed the car to dealer. As per invoice they did following work. ?p0607- ecm shortened, replaced ecm and re-checked: operates as designed?. My car is under warranty, they did not charge for parts and service. I strongly believe it is a manufacturer defect. If this problem occurred on freeway, that could be dangerous and lead to fatal crash.

61 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/24/2010

My 2007 Toyota Corolla died while pulling out of a parking lot, I restarted it and when I shifted it back into gear it made a hard clunk and would not get over approximately 25 miles per hour. I got the care home and the check engine light was on. After reading the owners manual it explained that it could have been the gas cap possibly. Removed and reinstalled it the car seemed to run fine, then the check engine light came back on. The next day I was driving and the same thing happened, the car have now done this several time. I did read on the internet that I'm not the only person having this problem and some people were told it was because of improper maintenance. I not that not to be true.

63 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/11/2010

I was driving my mom's 2006 Toyota Corolla ce tonight. I was stopped at a red light waiting to turn left. The light turned green, I pressed the gas pedal and the car stalled and it would barely move at all and the check engine light came on. I was thankfully able to get off to the shoulder of the road without being in an accident. After I got to the shoulder off the road the car sounded like it was about to quit running and just die out. I turned the car off and restarted it. The check engine light was still on and I was terrified about having to drivethe car home, about 2 miles from my destination at that time, but I tried it and when I pushed the gas pedal, after I restarted the car, it done okay and did not stall. However, the check engine light never went out even after restarting the care. This is a big safetly risk and needs to be fixed by Toyota. Someone could have hit me in the back end and it is definitely a safety hazard and needs to be resolved! I was very upset when this happened not sure what I was going to do. Please investigate this issue. I no longer feel safe driving any Toyota product. Again, I was driving my mom's 2006 Toyota Corolla ce. I am the owner of a 2007 scion tc and I am thinking about trading it off because I no longer feel safe driving anything made by Toyota. Before today, I wasn't really worried about driving my mom's car since none of the incidents where the vehicle speeds up and you can't stop it affected her model but after this incident today, I will not be driving her car at all. I feel like my life is at danger when in a Toyota. Please help protect my safety and families around America. Toyota needs to make a recall regarding this because it is a safety risk!!!! despite what Toyota says. They haven't been in the situation themselves. It is absolutely no fun. If they can't fix the problems, they need to just shut down. People's lives are at risk.

64 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/21/2010

My 2007 Toyota Corolla engine stalled. I started the engine and went back inside the house and when I returned to the car I noticed the engine was off (which was bizarre because I knew I had turned it on). Of course the radio was still on. Several attempts to start it either resulted in the car not starting and in other instances it would start for a second and then shut off. I had to borrow my husband's car for the day. When I got home, my husband and I tried starting the engine again and realized that it was stalling, also the engine check light was on. My husband told me he read an article recently about Corollas and matrix problems so he went back and read the article online and realized that this was the same issues my car was experiencing. I also checked the Corolla manual and saw that the engine light says take the car to Toyota immediately.

2007 Toyota Corolla le 41k miles bought used a month ago. . I been experiencing very similar behavioral patterns as noted in NHTSA recall campaign number: pe09054 . While driving the car normally around 40mph+ and sometimes at highway speeds, very randomly engine stalls or slowly lowers to about 2000 rpm almost immediately the engine light come on. . I tried to give it more gas but engine won't pick up above 2000rpm. I pull over to the side. Shut the engine off. Then restarts the car with no issues, engine light turns off and I continue driving normally again. . This happens at least 2 times in my daily commute (30 minutes one way) . . And is getting more and more frequent.

68 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

My 2006 Toyota Corolla began stalling on the highway last night and ultimately left me stranded on the side of the road. After sitting for several minutes and trying to restart, the temperature gauge would sometimes respond and other times would not move when the key was turned to start the engine. When the gauge doesn't move the car will not start. When the gauge does move the car sometimes starts but will only go a few feet before stalling again. The check engine light is on permanently. There is no sign of over heating or of an oil level problem. The car is currently at a garage awaiting analysis.

69 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

2005 Corolla, 60,000 miles: check engine light came on. Car went into "safe" mode (idle speed) while doing 65mph. Toyota replaced throttle body and the next day it did the same thing. Toyota said the "new' throttle body they put in was defective. It's still at Toyota waiting for another throttle body. This is a very dangerous situation. Pulling out into traffic you do not know if it is going to go into safe mode or not, and of course, going down highway 50-70 mph there is a good chance of being rear-ended. This is not a safe situation.
