While I was driving on a street, my car started to stall, and die, this has happened 3 times. It just happened today, I was driving on the street, and the engine just stopped, and car stopped running, I had to pull over and make sure it was in drive, and start it up again. I almost got hit by another car, because the engine stopped running. Another time I was driving on the street about to get on the freeway, and the car stalled, died. I checked to make sure it was in drive, adjusted it and then kept going. I called the dealer today, and will take my car there in mesa, az on Saturday to be checked. It seemed there was a recall for this same problem, but with Toyota tacomas. I am really concerned about my safety! I'm driving, and all of a sudden my car just stops running and dies. The car shuts off without warning, and there are no lights or messages inside my car, to let me know what the problem is. My car is only a 2016, which I purchased new. I only have a little over 60,000 miles. The problem is unknown to me.

My car when left on in park will shut off by itself after a short time (this has happened twice), today when I was in drive and about to pull out of work it shut off. I restarted it and everything worked fine. The car was not moving when it shut off, but both times the engine and oil light came (there might have been another light) on but when restarted they went off.

Most important: we do not drive the car now. Unable to get answers to possible solutions. Called Toyota they said they cannot assist if the problem is not happening when they get the car. This problem is intermittent at best. I asked if they had problems such as mine below and can give me some idea and they said they cannot assist me without having the problem occur while they have the car. We cannot drive the car for it may shut down on us. Latest problem: the vehicles engine shut down while driving 30 mph. Tried to restart the vehicle and everything comes on as if it was going to start up (meaning: the problem is not battery), but would not crank over, no noise, nothing. After playing with the fuses, and waiting a bit the car was able to crank over and start. A week before the latest (above): the car was in park and running, the engine shut down, tried starting the car and same scenario as above, we let the car rest overnight and the next morning it started up. (we didn't do anything to the car). Years ago: the same thing as above except, I went to go use the car, it would not start, had noise and lights but no cranking of engine, nothing (same scenario as above). But, after letting time go by the car would start. (I changed the key to a backup key I had and it started up. ) others have this problem as we have tried to find out what the problem is, we came across the same scenarios but no solution.

I was driving my Toyota had just left my house and I turned the corner and just asfter I turned the corner the car shut off completely. I erred to move from middle of road so it restarted and I drove about 20 ft turned a corner to park the car and it shut off again. I then noticed smoke coming from under the hood. A minute or two later I'm on the phone w fire department cause my car was in flames. After fire was put out by fire dept the firefighter said the car is a total loss and I only had liability. They towed to a salvage yard and I was told by firefighter cause of fire is unknown, possibly something electrical may have shorted he was not sure. Two days later, I see a safety recall for my car on the news was announced for possible fire in engine compartment.

During driving in freeway, the engine light came up and then shut down the engine. During trips to Toyota dealership they were unable to discover the problem or duplicate it in first occasion. However after returning of the car and insisting of the problem, with repetition of the problem, Toyota replaced the electronic control module. This should have been resolved through previous recall but it may have not been fully addressed. The issue was potentially ecm internal fuse was shutting down the electronic control module causing the car to stop. I do not know if this affects the braking due to stopping the car. At all the occasion this happened to me the car shut down and came to stop. After the restart of the car, the problem stays hidden for a while but comes back again. The issue is discovery of the problem is almost impossible unless detailed work and evaluation has been done. Toyota agreed with the defect and replaced ecm without any charges for may car.

I was driving on the high way, it stopped completely and would go at all. The car just shut off while driving with no warning signs. It wouldn't restart, unless you let it cool down for 10 minutes or so.
2005 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states vehicle shut off while driving, resulting in having no brakes or steering causing an accident the consumer stated a month after the accident, she received a recall letter in the mail regarding a problem with the ecm module.
I was driving my 2006 Toyota Corolla s on the freeway today, and suddenly, without warning, the engine shut down. I had no power steering or abs brakes, and no control of the car. After having it towed to the dealership, I found out that 2005-2009 Toyota Corollas have a huge issue with the engine control module, and that upwards of 5 cars a month come into the dealership with this same complaint. I find it ridiculous that every review I've read mentions that this car has this problem with the ecm, but that nothing has been done about it yet. On top of the reviews, there have been news reports about how Toyota is aware of this problem, and says that this problem does not pose an unreasonable risk to safety.
