3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

Internal short within headlamp assembly causing the fuse to blow. Unrepairable, requires full replacement of part. Confirmed by myautoimports licensed Toyota repair center. Passenger side day running light, headlight, and brights are inoperative. Turn signal and front right indication light are still functioning. No warning prior to, but system warning came up after the short first occurred telling me to take into a dealer ASAP.

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

I have a 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback and the headlight went out. Instead of replacing the bulb Toyota has made it so you had to purchase the entire unit which is called a headlight assembly unit and that’s in the thousands of dollars the led lights are supposed to last the lifetime of the car so it makes it really unsafe to drive at night currently my passenger side light has gone out and like I said it’s in the thousands to replace it so I’m unfortunately not in a position where I can do that and now my driver side light is starting to flicker and starting to cut out. There’s no way to just replace a bulb you have to replace the entire unit which is in the thousands of dollars it makes it very unsafe to drive at night. And Toyota has stated that the led lights should last the entire life of the vehicle if not longer.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

I hit a deer going roughly 65mph on my way to work. The hit crushed the radiator into the engine, destroyed the airbox, folded the hood, and practically vaporized the headlight. The airbag, however, did not deploy- not in the wheel or in the side curtain. I wasn't injured but thought it was strange the because the crash totalled the car (~$16k of damage) and was at a high speed. The car had one accident prior, hitting a concrete pillar at a low speed (less than 10mph) and had been repaired two years earlier. I kept every maintainence record for the car and never had any airbag lights on or service done. Because the airbags didn't deploy, the car didn't initiate the safety connect call to 911 or anyone else. I recently saw Toyota settled with many owners of 2019 Corolla sedans but the hatch wasn't included, but I have (anecdotally) heard of similar stories from other hatch owners. I now own a 2023 Corolla hatch and feel a bit concerned the same issue could present.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

Front windshields of the vehicle has more tinting to be within compliance. The same vehicle has tendency to follow certain vehicles all the time as per what I have experienced or see.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

I would like to raise a concern regarding the headlight shadow issue in the 2023 Toyota Corolla. Specifically, there are noticeable dark spots or shadows when using the low beams, which significantly obscure portions of the road during night driving. I believe this is a design flaw in the vehicle’s lighting system. My parents, aged 83 and 72, have found this shadow effect to be particularly challenging, making it difficult and unsafe for them to drive at night. Additionally, I understand that many other 2023 Toyota Corolla owners have expressed similar complaints, which further suggests this issue is widespread and deserves attention.

8 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

My 2024 carola hybrid headlights create blind spot in front of the car at night at 50meters to 100m by Toyota engineer design (there is a corner designed into the line of sight of the headlight). Toyota customer care and the dealer maintenance manager is saying the design is safety tested and approved. It needs to be retested at night!!! this is a clear design defect. It is especially dangerous curving left & making left turns on two way back roads and highways. Have to turn on brights to see but that creates risk to other drivers.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/21/2024

I think headlights are really dim in night driving. On the flat road it’s okay but on the curvy and hilly turns you barely can see anything. It is either dim or the headlights are aim too low . You can’t see the road clearly and farther.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

I purchased this car new from Toyota. The first time I drove it at night the lights were not bright enough. You don't test drive them at night. They are ok if you are driving in the city where it is all lit up. On darker freeways and roads, the lights are horrible, even if the bright lights are on. I live in east san diego, blossom valley, it is dangerous! I paid cash for this car, I took it to the dealership right away. They were rude to me, they said they were new led lights, bulbs can't be changed. When I'm turning it is dark. I've had a new car every 3 years, and never had horrible lighting. Toyota doesn't care.

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/29/2023

2024 Toyota Corolla se low beam headlights have shadows on the driver's side that hang down and obstruct the roadway especially on curves. This is very hazardous and only remedy is to switch to high beams. This issue causes me to either not be able to see the roadway adequately or blind oncoming traffic with high beams. This is an issue on my 2023 as well. Toyota has stated it is normal and as designed. I disagree. Not being able to adequately see the road with low beams is not normal. The problem is better or worse depending on orientation of the road. Shadows on curves are much worse.

12 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/20/2023

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds at night, the left lane was blocked out by the headlights. There was a huge shadow obstructing the driver’s view. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine there was a failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was designed that way, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 3.

13 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/04/2023

Low beam lights have a shadow that moves as car turns or goes up/down hills. When driving in dark back roads I see a line of shadow about 30’ ahead of me blacking out entire view. When high beams are on the shadow disappears. Bought car yesterday. Advised salesman. Will make appt to have it looked at. I have a video but it is failing to download.

14 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/13/2023

Low beam headlights have shadows that prevent me from seeing all of the roadway at night. Vehicle has been presented to multiple dealerships that have failed to correct this potentially dangerous issue. The last dealership stated it was "normal" and no fix is available. The issue did cause me to hit a tire on the interstate earlier this year and continues to make night driving hazardous. I will continue to present the issue to my Toyota dealer to have the issue fixed. Future updates will be provided on this issue.

15 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/24/2023

My car's headlights are manufactured improperly so that the driver's side is far more illuminated than the passenger side. To be more clear, the cone of which the headlight service, around 10 to 15 degrees near the edge is not similar in brightness. If an animal or a person were to cross in front of my vehicle from the right. I would be less aware of them than I would on the left. This would put me and others at greater risk of an incident occurring. I have also looked on forums to see if others were having to same issues, and I have found that a large number of people are experiencing the same problem. I also took my car to the santa maria Toyota service center to have this issue fixed. They stated that the headlights can not be replaced or positioned to fix the problem. They stated that the headlight can only be positioned up and down. They are not able to be moved light or right. I also have documentation stating that they compared my car headlights to another car, that is the same year and model, with the same problem. I add this document as well.

16 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

The low beam headlights have dark shadows which prevent me from seeing the left side of the roadway. I took the vehicle to the dealer and had low beams adjusted. After the adjustment I was constantly flashed by on coming drivers to lower my headlight beams which were already on low beams. Due to blinding oncoming drivers the lights were adjusted back down and the dark shadows returned. I have already hit a tire in the road on the interstate due to not seeing it because of the shadows. The low beam headlights make driving at night dangerous. An acceptable resolution would be to adjust low beams so I can see without blinding oncoming drivers like in all other cars I've owned. I hit the tire approximately around the beginning of June.

17 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/24/2023

Problem 1 there is insufficient visibility of the road at night to drive the car safely. The local police officer helped me measure the distance of road visibility from the front of the car and it was 78 feet. At night with the lights on the top 3/4 of the windshield appears black (opaque) - cannot be seen through. I can only see through the bottom 1/4 of the windshield (left to right, the whole width). Problem 2 the transmission had to be replaced. Problem 3 the computer console only connects to the cell phone 25% of the time. This prevents the ability to use gps and emergency phone calling while driving. Toyota said there is no problem with the visibility, that the police is incorrect, and there is a known defect with the computer connecting to android phones (after they insisted it was fine). I've been a wreck over this - I don't feel safe driving the car, and can't drive it at night. Toyota has said there's nothing they are planning to do to address these issues, except perphaps there will be software fix for the console/phone connection problem someday. Fyi I have all the repair documents but didn't know how to scan/upload them here. So let me know if you need these, and perhaps some other way I could get them to you. If there is an email address I could send pictures of them. Or you could obtain these from lexington Toyota (lexington MA). There was also a driving video at nighttime, and I have a video/audio of the transmission womp womp noise, but didn't know how to get those to you either.

18 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/23/2023

Low beam headlights have shadows that prevent me from seeing all roadway at night. Vehicle has presented at the dealership in 6/07/23, but they failed to correct this potentially safety hazard issue. The issue did cause me to hit a piece of wood in the hyw causing an accident with a result of 2 damage tires and 1ring. I will present the vehicle again in 10-11 -23, but in advance one of the guys told me. Is something that they don't have nothing to do because is something normal in some Corolla. That alert me to start my investigation. Now I can see, I don't are the only one with this problem. Is a new car.

19 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/04/2023

My car shows that the vehicle needed to be serviced, in checking the Toyota app I saw there was a warning for the adaptive lighting system/electrical concern. The warning light had been on for some time, thinking I was due for regular maintenance like an oil change I had ignored it for a bit. Everytime I would start the car this warning would appear. I too the car in for service, they also did a 20k maintenance service and kept the car overnight overnight as they were unable to locate the issue same day. The following day I was advised they couldn't determine the issue and they cleared the code.

20 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/25/2023

The shadows are serious issue. They are distractive, annoying, irritating and dangerous. It is a safety issue. As car go up and down on the road, they are longer or shorter (because of the light angle) . They are tiring and fatiguing. Eyes are drawn to it at night. Constant distraction. Not acceptable on a new car. Problem reported to the dealer. Dealer won't do anything. Went to 2nd dealer. They told me that all the 2023 Corollas have this problem and won't do anything. Case filed with Toyota. Case # 2304 11000333. No reply for 2 months. After talking to other 2023 Corolla owners, they don't have that problem. Also, the car still have the same problem with blind spot since 2019 (according to Toyota "by design"). However shadows are problem.

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/08/2023

2023 Corolla is having some issue with headlights [low beams]. I understood from Toyota that this is an safety feature which is designed as per the rules. This is an good idea and I am not denying it. The issue which I have is the person who is driving this car is not having clear view on the road. The shadow's is completely hiding the left lane. If we are driving in full dark road, and towards left there is an divider, we are not able to get an clear view of the road where the divider is starting / ending. This is going to be an serious issue. I have not seen this kind of shadow in any other cars so far driven. The shadow is also much distractive.

22 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/05/2023

The radio/display is in a never-ending updating loop and the screen becomes very bright at the start of the update loop. In which cause temporary blindness at night while driving.

23 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/19/2022

When driving at night, there is a shadow in the headlight, that shines onto the road and makes driving at night difficult. This shadow looks like it comes from a tall screw or bolt in both headlights. The lights work correctly, but the shadow causes the driver to have a dark "spot" in the beam of light, which then makes it hard to see clearly while driving in dusk, or darkening circumstances. I took the vehicle in to the Toyota dealer where I bought it and had them investigate this. They said they couldn't repair it, as it was part of the construction of the headlight itself. The Toyota repair people did see the shadow when the lights were turned on to face a wall in a darkened garage bay.

24 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/18/2022

I am making a complaint about my 2021 Corolla se because I am constantly running into issues that cost and are not my fault as to why these issues have come about. I bought my car in March 2021, in may 2021 my car hit a bump in the highway and cracked my rim and bust my tire. Luckily I have alloy and tire coverage so I did not have to come out of my pocket. Next, my two front tires are constantly wearing down on the inside of the tread making the wires be exposed and causing me to have a blow out or needing to replace my tires at least 4 to 5 times since I have had my car. My car only has 71,000 on it to need that many tires replaced. I go and get my car serviced where I purchased my car at the Toyota dealer so if I needed and alignment or tires rotated they would have let me know that and the only time I was informed I needed an alignment was when I got all new tires. Then, in November of 2022 my front lighting sytem when completely out ( signals lights, blinkers, brake lights, etc. I went to get it checked on and the dealer made me feel as if I had an entire electrical issue going on with my car and I would have to pay $160 x2 in order for them to just figure out what was wrong with my practically new vehicle. They came back and explained it was only a fuse and the fuse is $5 but still attempted to charge me for diagnostics. After this encounter I had to be ugly just to not come out of pocket for a large sum. At that visit there was an "engine malfunction" light on as well that they did not mend and continues to blink to this date. Prior to my last servicing appointment last week my entire radio system went out ( backup camera, radio, gps system, bluetooth). I was told at the dealer that I would have to pay $160 for them to diagnose my issue and and then pay for the repair. I asked my service manager if there were any recalls on my car for these issues and he stated no but as for the 2022-2023 models there are recalls. I need help with this.

25 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/27/2022

I am concerned with the visibility of my car in the night/dark. When driving my car in the night I get flashed by divers behind me. I am almost completely sure it is because the rear lights are so small and dim. This car was not available for a test drive and often isn’t so how is a potential buyer to know of this issue unless it is pointed out? all of the demonstration videos are of the highest model which comes with the adequate lighting. The only way to have an adequately visible Corolla cross (from behind) is to upgrade to the highest model. I worry that I am at a higher risk from other drivers of being rear ended when driving at night/on dimly lit streets.

26 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/07/2022

No problems.

27 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/29/2022

The left headlight has a dead spot where it does not light up the driving lane.

28 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/18/2022

The low beams on my car cast to shadows beyond the visable lighted area of the beams but beyond the shadows is dark , no penetration through the shadows restricting my view down the road and I have to switch to high beams to actually see down the road. I've been driving cars for 72 years and I have never had this problem. I love the car but hate driving it at night ! I,ve reported this to m dealer but my results were that the problem was only my opinion. I paid 27,000 dollars for the car and that kind of service stinks. Need help ! thank you, bob farrell 71 coleman st seekonk, MA 02771 phone 508-761-5427.

29 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/05/2022

I was traveling on the interstate through missouri through to kansas to get back to California on July 5, 2022 in my brand new just got April 18 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid when the entire electrical panel went out on my car. I was driving the speed limit on the interstate with the ac on in 109 degree temps when the whole electric panel went out it was out for about ten minutes before it came back on and when it did I had no ac. I was literally in the middle of the desert, there were no stops coming up, no towns, no shade, nothing! and thank god I had just dropped my nine year old son off in indiana or he could've died with me. The ac condenser on this car is located right behind the front grill of the car, which has over one inch openings in it and Toyota is specifically not covering this part under warranty because they know this is a faulty design. I understand and have been told that ac is a luxury but its not for that one week old baby that is going to be traveling with their family is this car and they have no idea that a pebble (is what Toyota told me knocked my ac out in the desert!) is going to knock their ac out and that baby will die. Toyota needs to recall this car or put a screen behind the grill I dont care but the public needs to be made aware how easy it is for the ac to be knocked out. Additionally the Toyota dealership here said that they can repair it for 1400$ but there's nothing to stop it from happening again as soon as I drive off the lot because there is nothing protecting the condenser. I have a brand new car that is broke and cant be repaired and Toyota has told me they stand by their design and if they decide to do a recall I will be notified. Please notify the public about this! it is hot everywhere and children will die. I cant even go back to pick my son up and now have to fly him out because I dont have ac in my brand new car. Like seriously! think of the children and the people who have no idea how easy it is to go out! thank you!.

30 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/05/2022

Please see report number 11479072 for the other information. Not once person except the man I talked to there on the phone asked me if the heater went out as well and it did! so not only did I lose the ac I lost heat which is what I guess makes this a real problem for everyone. As its Friday, after hours I have to wait until Monday to contact Toyota to get an appointment to confirm the heater doesnt work but just like I confirmed the ac doesnt work, when I say theres no heat, theres no heat. And the condenser is literally located right behind the front grill. There is no way to fix this on my own and I cant repair it because I was told if I drive off the lot it could literally happen again. Anyone who has a Toyota Corolla should be specifically told about this failure of a design thank you!.

31 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

Low beam illumination is not sufficient. Attached picture shows someone holding a measuring tape disappears completely in the dark around 76 feet from the car.

32 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the headlights and fog lights were blinking and became inoperable. The air bag, oil and fuel warning indicator lights were illuminated. Additionally, the tires were losing air. The contact had to plug an item into the aux for the glitch to stop. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

33 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/31/2022

Headlight is not angled correctly and doesn't allow the driver to fully see what is infront of them at night. Dealer inspected and found no issues with alignment, however driving at night is almost like drive without headlights on as they don't show light correctly.

34 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/30/2021

I purchased this vehicle new in June 2021. It is the hatchback model. Prior to that I drove a motorcycle since 2015. I noticed right at the beginning that the headlights don't illuminate far enough ahead at night for what I consider safe. My ability to see off into the distance ahead of the vehicle is far less than what I would get from my motorcycle, which doesn't make any sense to me because this car has led headlights which are supposed to be better. I live in washington, DC and have family in new jersey that I visit regularly. There are two ways I can go. The first is interstate 95 which has a speed limit of 65 but I set my cruise control at 60. When I come to an area where there is no street lighting and there are no other cars around which are helping illuminate the roadway, I am overdriving my headlights. This is not safe. The second route is taking route 50 to the annapolis bay bridge, then getting on route 301 north towards middletown, delaware and then new castle, delaware, over the delaware memorial bridge and then route 295 towards burlington county where my family lives. Route 50 is 65 mph until you get to annapolis where its reduced to 55, then stays 55mph all the way to route 301, and then route 301 is 55 mph, until the delaware memorial bridge. When I get to route 301 north there is very little other lighting on the road other than my headlights. There are far fewer cars than on interstate 95 so I get very little illumination from passing cars. Even if I reduce my speed to 50 mph, I am still over-driving my headlights. There has to be something wrong with how the headlights have been positioned. They are not shining for any reasonable distance ahead of the car. I have gone to the Toyota dealer in bethesda, MD where I purchased it, jim coleman Toyota three times to tell them about it. Each time they have told me that there is nothing wrong with the lights. But I don't know what they did to check them.

35 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/06/2021

Headlights are defective. There is a "v" shaped dark spot in the headlights of the vehicle when on low beam. The significant unlit "v" shaped area does not allow the driver to see objects in the roadway which come up on a driver rather quickly, resulting in collisions. Toyota is aware of the defect, but will not act on it. Toyota claim # 220811002276. There have been two collisions involving items in the roadway due to this headlight defect. Total out of pocket costs on the damage have been in excess of $1,500.
