1 Headlights problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/18/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the headlights failed to respond. There was a warning light illuminated that there was a failure with the front headlights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was with the headlight; however, the dealer was not able to repair the headlights. The contact was then informed to take the vehicle to a friend of the dealer. The friend of the dealer confirmed the failure and was unable to repair the headlights. The friend suggested that the vehicle be taken to a Toyota dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the headlights were not the oem headlights. The vehicle was diagnosed with connector failure and that the headlights needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,311.

3 Headlights problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/19/2020

I-20 0400. Traveling in the right lane. 18 wheeler ahead was pulled to the shoulder. I moved over to the left lane. While moving over there was metal in the road(learned from state police later from the 18 wheeler). Unable to avoid the object the result was a blown tire. The design of the left headlight is made so on a two lane road the oncoming traffic wont be blinded. However, with an interstate if in the right lane the left lane has a blind spot. The headlight is 1/2 the length of the right headlight. Please please look into this. I was lucky with only a blown tire more severe damage or loss of life due to lack of visibility on dim setting is frightening.

4 Headlights problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/22/2020

There is a defect to the left headlight of this vehicle causing the light from the low beam to be blocked beyond a distance of 60 feet from the front of the vehicle in a specific pattern to suggest that it is the result of an abberasion of the lens assembly. The defect is pronounced on unlit roadways because is severely affects the ability of the operator to identify the left hand lane markings and any road signs. The light disappears in a "v" pattern of approximately 130 degrees from when the initial source of light is pronounced up to a distance of 60'. Note that the right headlight suffers no lighting loss and the field of vision left to the left of the unlit portion is well lit. Gateway Toyota (the selling dealer) and per their service manager, Toyota USA describes this as being a normal characteristic of this vehicle and all vehicles with projector-style headlights per "svmss" guidelines. As a former vehicle defect inspector, motor vehicle and heavy equipment cause and origin loss investigator, NJ state safety and emissions inspector, ase master-certified collision repair technician, ase-certified automotive repair technician, mercedes-benz certified service, parts and collision director and Tesla-certified collision estimator having overseen the successful repair of thousands of front end impacts requiring headlight re-aiming and programming as required, I certify that this is a safety defect unique to this vehicle that continues to affect its safe operation with no assistance from Toyota USA in reaching a resolution.

5 Headlights problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/04/2020

The regular headlight beams do not light up the road. They light half of the road. The road in front of the driver is completely dim. The only way to more than a car length in front of the car is to activate the high beams. Even then you are limited on how much light the headlights put on the road. I am blinded by oncoming cars. I cannot see deer when they jump out from the side of the road. I cannot read address signs that are basically reflective and in front of the car on the road unless I drive directly upon them and shine the high beams.

6 Headlights problem of the 2017 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

Headlights are inadequate, even dangerous. You can see a distinct "horizon line" in front of the car which has a sharp cutoff above which there is no illumination. In spite of their extreme intensity, these headlights illuminate everything but the road ahead. Makes me feel like I am driving without headlights. I thought they were not aligned properly but dealer says they look ok. I have since observed many similar complaints on various web sites for the Corolla over several model years. Here is one of many similar complaints found on the web: "the main front led low beam is a problem on all trims of this current generation. It is too bright and blinds oncoming drivers, there is also a hard cutoff line in which you can't see anything above it. They also poorly light the road. The beam goes everywhere but the road. It seems they are incorrectly aimed. " "when did this happen?" only allows for a single date. This is a continuous problem. Which occurs anytime you try to drive at night.

7 Headlights problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

The driver's side headlight housing(?) casts a shadow into the low beam projection field, obscuring one's nighttime driving view on the driver's side. The shadow is an inverted triangular shape that hangs from the top side in front of the driver's side projection. This makes for a compromised view at night, especially when trying to see any scurrying animals or moving debris in the driver's field of view. My own vehicle of this model line is brand new and undamaged/unaltered.

8 Headlights problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Drive side headlight casts shadow making it hard to drive at night. The shadow is only on driver side. Dealer has tried to adjust with no success. It's a design flaw.

9 Headlights problem of the 2017 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

After being blinded by ridiculously bright headlights on newer Toyota vehicles the last couple years, I recently rented a Toyota Corolla. I was horrified that the headlights on this car are legal. Not only do you blind oncoming vehicles, but you can't see safely! the brightness of these headlights is such that anything reflective blinds yourself! (road signs, etc. ) yet, somehow they don't ,in my opinion, light the road ahead adequately. They do seem to light the trees and things on the side of the road pretty well, but not what needs to be seen. Also the high beams are worthless, as the just seem to light the trees more. All of this was observed while driving in the desert of new mexico and texas on two lane highways. I am convinced americans are dying because of the inadequacies of these headlights.

10 Headlights problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/07/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Corolla. While driving at night, the low beam headlights failed to illuminate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to capital Toyota (located at 783 auto group Ave ne, salem, or 97301, (503) 399-1011) where it was diagnosed that the low beam headlight cables were burnt and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

11 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/06/2018

Low beam headlight went out at 48,000 miles. The low beam headlight is sealed which does not allow for bulb replacement. You have to replace the entire headlight assembly. Every other bulb in the assembly can be replaced. Will we begin seeing vehicles with no headlights due to the prohibitive cost and no option for bulb replacement.

12 Headlights problem of the 2018 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/30/2018

When the vehicle is in motion when dark outside auto high beams do not function properly. When passing a oncoming car with brighter than normal headlights the auto high beams disengage and will not turn on for a varying amount of time. This happens both on city streets, highway, and country roads. This is a safety issue due to the fact of an increased risk of collision due too reduced visibility. It also enhances the risk of collision with animals at night especially when driving on secluded country roads. When car was taken to Toyota dealer I was given multiple excuses on why it was not working. They kept the car overnight and said they could not duplicate problem. When I showed videos demonstrating the problem and scenario of when it happens they could not give an explanation on why they did not engage in various circumstances.

13 Headlights problem of the 2001 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

We have a 2001 Toyota we noticed that the check engine light would come on every month and so I took the car to autozone for a free diagnostic test each time with the result showing that the car has an electric short circuit problem. This is a defect in the timing chain and a part called a cam. To fix the problem it would cost me around 800 dollars. I reported the problem but they just ignored me. The result is I have to do an oil change every 1200 miles as there is no oil in the engine after 800 miles. Normally one would have an oil change done every 3000 miles. So the check light comes on every 400 miles intervals. This problem has been reported by many people on forums about the 2001 Corolla, but Toyota never bothered fixing. In addition to this problem the plastic lining around our car windows, on all four doors has peeled off. I reported this to the Toyota dealer last spring. The assistant service manager acknowledged that Toyota knows about this lining problem and yet the dealer ignored me on this. Instead they asked me to cough up $450 to fix the problem. . 14 Headlights problem of the 2001 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the low beam headlights illuminated to see approximately 10 feet of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (cox Toyota of burlington, north carolina for diagnostic testing. The dealer had not rendered a diagnosis. The vehicle was still at the dealer getting repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

15 Headlights problem of the 1997 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/30/2016

On March 23, 2013, I purchased four new cooper tires from sears auto center in lima, ohio, for my 1997 Toyota Corolla. The specific tires installed were cooper response touring m+s 175/65r14, dot u9ex lrc 4110, a08. Since that time, I have driven less than 30,000 miles on the tires and maintained appropriate tire pressure, maintenance, and alignment. In the early hours of this morning (October 30, 2016), the tire tread of the front passenger side tire separated from the tire, causing catastrophic failure and forcing me off the road.   this incident occurred on I-475 north travelling at the speed limit, in the middle lane. It took less than ten seconds to coast to a stop. We were very fortunate that there were no other vehicles to impact ours before reaching the shoulder. Additional damage from this tread separation include destroying the wheel well, body damage, launching the headlight apart from the car, spontaneous release of wiper fluid on to the window as the tread ripped off from the tire, and other significant damage. The vehicle has been towed to toyonly, 1050 vijay drive, chamblee, GA 30341. While the tread separation has caused the aforementioned significant damage, the vehicle is otherwise mechanically sound. I am waiting for a response from cooper tires.

16 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

Possible problems in lighting. Car by design has led headlights which are also the daytime running lights. The daytime running lights are so bright that the operator could drive in the dark failing to notice that the real headlight are not on. The main problem is when just the daytime running lights are on, there is no tailights, thus a person could drive without taillights and be hit from behind on a dark road.

17 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Corolla. While driving at night, the headlights did not illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 100.

19 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

I was blinded by the headlights of a Toyota Corolla. It almost led to an accident with a pedestrian. Please look into all 2015+ Toyota Corollas with the high intensity discharge lights seem to be aimed higher than normal or have improper lenses. When approaching they blind oncoming drivers. These economy cars are very common and problem is becoming worse as Toyota did not recall them.

20 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

The main front led low-beam is a problem on all trims of this current generation. It is too bright and blinds oncoming drivers, there is also a hard cutoff line in which you can't see anything above it. They also poorly light the road. The beam goes everywhere but the road. It seems they are incorrectly aimed. There is also a tail-light problem that affects the higher-end trims of this generation. There is a drl option, which is the first one, that turns on the front low-beam, you can see that your front headlights are on, but you don't realize your tail-lights aren't on and that you have to turn the stock again to turn them on. There is no indicator on the dash that signifies any sort of exterior lighting is on besides the high-beam. I've seen multiple Corolla drivers on the road with only drls on at night. The lower end trims don't suffer this problem because you can't see the dash at night without turning on the taillights, the higher end trims have an always lit dash. This creates a hazard in which the Corolla in front of you is unlit in the rear and allows a rear-end collision because you can't see them.

21 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/28/2016

In the last 5 days, I have seen at least 4 Toyota Corolla's with led headlights on the road at night without their taillights on. I believe the reason for this is that the led headlight option runs all day long, so people assume their lights are automatic? this is a huge safety concern as someone on the road at night cannot see these Toyota Corolla's in front of them when the taillights are off. In total, I have probably seen at least 40+ Corolla's without their lights actually turned on, but the headlights always shine. I try to flash my lights at the drivers to signal the problem, but few realize the issue since they are unaware their lights are not automatically activated.

22 Headlights problem of the 1999 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Corolla. While driving at approximately 60 mph at night, both the high beam and low beam headlights failed without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The VIN was unavailable.

23 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/28/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the led headlights were activated but the low beams failed to illuminate adequate lighting on the road ahead, which distorted the visibility. The high beam headlights were engaged in order to view the road. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 250. The VIN was unavailable.

24 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/14/2016

2014+ Toyota Corolla headlights are too bright and blind on-coming drivers.

25 Headlights problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

The low beam part of the headlight assembly in the Corolla sports 2014 is irreplaceable. I have seen multiple Corolla 2014s on the road with atleast 1 of the lowbeam headlights not working and it could be a problem either with the electrical system or the wiring must be getting pinched as it has no guard from getting pinched if it's harnessed via the front of the car near the bumper. I am personally trying to fight this problem but the dealership will not help me.

26 Headlights problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Headlight is one assembly and cost so much to replace that's why when the bulbs gets burnt out owners will just wait until the other one gets burnt also because it is too expensive to replace the whole assembly not like other cars that you can replace the bulbs for less than $5. 00 but with this car it is like $250 to replace a burnt headlight. People who drive this Corolla's are taking their risk specially at night driving without sufficient lights because it is too expensive to replace. Please check on this, thanks.

27 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/26/2015

When driving this model, which I own, I believe the led lighting makes these cars unsafe at night. What I will call the led horizon which fluctuates greatly on hilly or uneven roads, causes loss of needed vision. Fluctuation in pavement reduces forward vision to as little as a car length going downhill & puts it into the clouds going uphill. & everything in between on slightly uneven roads. The horizon is caused by total lack of light - led lights don't shade or reflect gradually to darkness, but have that sudden cut off resulting in a tunnel vision effect. I have to live with & drive in foothills at night. I complained by phone & email to manufacturer. I brought up possible rewiring, different bulbs, anything at 5000 mile service & that I'd gladly pay for some lighting improvement. Dealer help said "no one else has complained" & there is nothing allowed nor available to help improve lighting. Manufacturer said they weren't aware of any problems. I cited 2015 Corolla comments on this site & later emailed them the iihs study. Since Toyota obviously has the prius v lighting figured out & this is a major safety issue I strongly believe all cars with led need to be brought up to safe standards. This doesn't mean just Toyotas, but other brands affected. The little car is outdriving headlights at 30 mph. That & making all newer cars so low they sink into water puddles too easily are safety problems that need to be addressed industry wide. I'll give the date of 1st drive, but of course it is ongoing.

28 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/06/2015

Everyday I see at least 5 people in 2014-2016 Corolla models driving down the road with their drls on but no other lights. This occurs because the vehicles equipped with led headlights use their regular beam as the drl and people assume they have automatic headlights. However this is extremely dangerous as there are no taillights on. I have seen so many people driving in the pitch black with no taillights. Please issue mandatory recall to refit vehicles with warning that headlights aren't automatic in off position even with drl on or add light sensor that can detect darkness and automatically activates taillights. This should also apply to rainy conditions as hardly any Toyota drivers know that most states require headlights on in rain.

29 Headlights problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

The headlights in the Toyota Corolla are blindingly bright. The Toyota Corolla lights are upon the worse offenders of headlights that are so bright they are causing temporary blindness. I have noticed for months this model has headlights that are too bright, but I am writing today because of a recent experience where I temporarily lost the ability to see at night due to a Corolla. Toyota now is advertising their bright headlights to sell vehicles. The pursuit of bright headlights in Corolla should to be put into check by federal regulators before they cause accidents and lead to injuries or deaths.

30 Headlights problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/09/2015

The high beams on the headlights come on without the control being touched. This began when I first bought the car & still does. At first it would happen at any time of the day but now it happens only when it is dark or getting dark. This could impair the vision of the driver of an oncoming vehicle. It is most dangerous on narrow streets. There are other electrical problems that occur from time to time such as the cruise control, power mirrors, air conditioner, driving & dash lights not working. Also the dome light has remained on causing the battery to run down . These latter problems do not seem to pose the threat that the headlights do but they seem to be connected & they are a distraction that could cause problems. I have taken my car to the dealer many times but they never corrected the problem.

31 Headlights problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Entered head in parking spot in enclosed public garage, car was positioned crooked within lines, backed up minimal feet to correct to a parallel position, put in drive (foot on brake) car lurched forward violently perhaps 5 to 6 feet into a braided restraining cable at the front of the space. Front end damage to body, headlight, jammed passenger door, front of hood, possible radiator and/or a/c condenser. Repairs are beginning at Toyota collision center, 410-525-1000, 15001 s. Caton Ave. Halethorpe (baltimore) maryland . Estimate is $3500 - my share $1000 deductible with liberty mutual. Floor mat recall has been done and fix was completed, have not been notified yet re steering column cable repair. A check on the NHTSA website of my serial number does not include this car in the acceleration issue. If nothing else, I would like to have the gas pedal correction in this recall to be done on my car anyway, even though it does not show in your recall listing - can this be done?? can you request this of my dealer - russel Toyota 6324 baltimore national pike (410-788-8400) - baltimore, MD?? otherwise, I will be scared that this could occur again at any time!!.

32 Headlights problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

While driving at night, with low beams on, oncoming traffic will flash their headlights. This has happened numerous times with some oncoming traffic turning on their high beams and leaving them on as they approach our car. I have checked to make sure that low beams are on when there is oncoming traffic. I have had the Toyota dealer check the headlight adjustment twice. Their response is that the headlights are adjusted to spec. We are hesitant to drive the car at night because of the complaints we have received about the headlights.

33 Headlights problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

The headlights seem noticeably dim at night while driving. I thought it could be my eyes, but then a rider with me noticed it as well and mentioned it to me, so I know it is not my eyes. I prefer not to drive at night because of it. I had my garage mechanic look at it about a year ago to see if the lights needed adjustment, as both headlights seemed off from each other when I am parked in my garage. I can't remember if he tried to make an adjustment or not.
