1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2002 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

Ive owned this car for 3 weeks and have had to put 2 quarts of oil in every week because every morning I start my car lot of blue smoke is coming out my exhaust. This is because the design temperature for the pistons in this engine was 120 degrees celsius and the actual temperatures reached are 160 degrees celsius, which causes the petroleum oil to sludge up and carbon to accumulate in the piston oil holes that allow oil to flow to the piston rings. This blocks those oil holes, preventing oil from getting to the piston rings and subsequently the piston rings wear very, very quickly, then allowing oil to be able to slip past the piston rings, into the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. This will lead to replacing the pistons which is an extremely expensive and labor intensive job just because Toyota made a mistake with the way they built the engine. It's a shame that Toyota hasn't recalled this vehicle because there are countless amounts of records on these cars having that problem. The car can break down after so much oil has been burned and that could happen un expectedly. It's drivable but not safe.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Engine cuts out under acceleration. On hotter that 80 degree days it will not run up over 3000 rpms. Cuts out and will not accelerate to speed unless very slowly accelerating. Have had to dealer and they tell me it's the ecm, but years ago that was replaced under a recall for the same reason. supposedly. I'm thinking either the work was not performed or the replacement units are faulty as well.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

I was pulling into my driveway at 1 mile per hour and I put my foot on the brake to stop my car and it wouldn't stop! the engine revved up and my car went through my fence into my backyard. I tried in vain to stop my car, I kept pressing down on my brake, (5 times) with no success. I finally put my automatic transmission into park and it finally came to a stop. I was extremely shaken up since I thought I was going to die! I checked my car for damages, I noticed that my passenger side view mirror was damaged and there was other damage under my car. My car is only 3 months old and has 950 miles on it. I have been driving for over 30 years and I have never encountered anything like this. This happened on November 27, 2014, thanksgiving day at 10:00 am. The weather conditions were cloudy with a temperature of 34 degrees.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

. . . . . . . Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected the number for this report is ac002-06. However, Toyota has redesigned the Corolla to corrected it in 2007 but did not do anything for the 2005 and 2006 year models. Living in the southern united states where summer temperatures reach 120 degrees this a health hazard due to extreme heat.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/03/2008

I owned a Toyota Corolla 2007 and the engine stalled once. It happened when I was getting off a highway and the vehicle took a 180 degree turn on the ramp. Thank god that there was no car behind me. I thought it did something wrong to cause the engine to stall. This week I read the news that Toyota admitted that there may be a engine defect. I hope that Toyota is taking step to correct the problem.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/18/2006

I own a 2004 Toyota Corolla (45,000 miles) and the check engine light illuminated, (read code p0456, emission control evap small leak). My investigation revealed that there were many other vehicles with the same issue and Toyota has corrected this problem with replacing the fuel filler tube at the owners expense (approx. $300. 00). Should this not be a recall due to the vehicle being only 2yrs old and a emission problem, that has happened to many other consumers? I feel Toyota should step up and replace part at no cost to owner, the car is too new to have problems.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated when initially starting the vehicle in temperatures less than 70 degrees, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however he was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The current and failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/01/2006

Driving southbound on 405 freeway just north of springdale exit in heavy traffic at about 45 mph in slow lane (lane furthest away from center divider). Car suddenly starts to slow down and noticed that check-engine light has come on and tachometer reads 0 (zero) rpm. Switch on emergency blinkers and transition to emergency lane to the right. Come to complete stop, glance at tachometer and now it is reading about 900 rpm (normal idle). Try to accelerate to resume trip but car is extremely sluggish. Brake and come to complete stop again. Place transmission in park, stop engine, and re-start engine. Place transmission in drive, now accelerates normally and merge with traffic. Check-engine light still on. Mileage around 26045 miles. Time about 4:. Started trip about 1 hour 15 minutes beforehand. Traveled about 35 miles. Fuel tank about 2/3 (two-thirds) full with 87 octane gasoline. Last purchase from union 76. Have followed all recommended manufacturers maintenance according to owner's manual. No non-manufacturer installed accessories added. External ambient temperature about 60-65 degrees f. Have made appointment with south coast Toyota (regular service dealer used) to bring car in first thing 2/2/2006 for inspection, etc.

9 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/12/2004

I have a 99 Toyota Corolla ve and it was fine until a week ago when a malfunction indicator lamp lit up. I took my car to a mechanic where the car electronic system was checked. It showed that my car has a evap control system vent control circuit malfunction. According to the mechanics, it would cost me 400-500 dollars to fix it besides a good amount of money just for a diagnostic test. After the check up, the malfunction indicator was off but then come back later. I learned that many other Toyota cars have the same problems and also the malfunction indicator light still on even after fixing the problem. This is a problem of a faulty circuit that would not allow the canister to vent and that causes gas to become trapped in the canister and makes it break down. Thus, resulting in the charcoal canister not working properly. I don't know how safe driving my car if the problem persists and it would cause problem with smog check, gas, fire. . .

10 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/25/2003

Strong sulfur smell while driving car. Has been present since I bought the car almost one year ago this August. Dealer said had to do with additives in gasoline and should stop, but hasn't stopped. Especially strong in the mornings after car has sat over night.

11 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/25/2003

Sulfur like smell enters the car while running, especially evident in wet weather. Garage says Toyota has sent out a technical advisory stating the gasoline is the problem. Have not had a problem with any of the other vehicles I drive. I believe the issue may well be the placement of the fresh air intake in relation to the exhaust system (?). It tends to make one have headaches while driving. This has been ongoing for at least 4-5 months. 2003 Toyota Corolla, new.

12 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/02/2003

Purchased 2003 Toyota Corolla in October 2002. Car is emitting a very noticeable sulfur odor especially when coming to a stop at traffic lights particularly when the engine is cold. I have taken it to the dealer twice and was told the problem is the gasoline I purchase. According to my dealer, some gas stations put an additive in the gas that creates this smell. I have never had this problem with any other car.
