Once gain after getting a new engine put into this car 3 months back, our car experienced yet another problem - the oxygen gauge in the exhaust system which is attached to the engine's exhaust manifold has gone bad. While driving the car to work, the engine light and vsc illuminates again. I was under the impression, this is the dealership's fault since it dealing with the engine, or under warranty, but nope. I ended up paying for the repair again. I have never dealt with so many problems in a single car. This car is accident free and never had any major damages done. I believe this car is a faulty car and could be a risk factor to myself, my family and others on the road.

Car stalling & rough engine idling caused by faulty engine intake manifold gasket.
In August 2009 my catalytic converter attached to the muffler went out. They put in the code that was given for that job. I have had nothing but problems , I was back in the shop every other week because my emergency light would keep coming on. I am 68 years old and for me this is a safety issue because I didn't recognize my car was having other problems. This electrical problem has not been addressed/corrected to this day. L would appreciate if you would contact Toyota and have them take care of this.

My car stopped working while driving , I pulled over while coasting. I turned the key after stopping & it started back up and I started driving again and it stalled in the middle again. This happened a few times, and then I had it towed due to the hazard of being hit by someone. The problem was the computer had tied and was told that the computer failure is a common issue on these vehicles. Luckily I was under warranty on this and was replaced for free. Why is there no recall. Also after this was fixed 2 days later intake manifold gasket went out. Again it is a common problem with this vehicle according to a few dealers I talked as the part that is needed to replace is backordered as Toyota is redesigning it. Again no recall from Toyota yet. I am liable to pay for the repairs even though it is an engine component.
I own a 05 Corolla xrs. I have had a problem with metal tearing issues. First one was the muffler bracket tore off and so my muffler was just hanging there. I had that welded at a muffler shop and it has fixed the problem for now. Second is my trunk latch, this is the part that is bolted to the body of the car that the trunk latches onto. This piece has completely tore out of the body, it has been rewelded a few times but it can't be welded anymore. I keep it tied closed and can't use my trunk. Now today 9-26-2007 is the last draw, the muffler bracket has completely broke in half and not were it was welded. I feel this is a very cheaply made car and will never buy a Toyota again. I am extremely disappointed and the dealer tells me it I out of warranty and they don't want nothing to do with it, I keep getting told to see a body shop. I don't have $1,000. 00 to replace the rear panel of my car every time the trunk latch decides to tear out of the body because the metal is to thin.

Noticed exhaust was coming into cabin of car shortly after purchasing it brand new form dealership while driving, in park or at a traffic stop sign. Contacted dealership was advised by service manager that the smell was the coating on the exhaust used for anti corrosion purpose. Several months later took car into dealer ship, advised that I had exhaust coming into my car, dealership concurred and replaced exhaust system from exhaust manifold back to the muffler. Purchased carbon monoxide detector for car to verify that exhaust was coming into car w/carbon monoxide. Detector was reading at 25 ppm (parts per million) took car back again, still getting smell 2 weeks later. Dealer could not duplicate problem. Took it in again still getting exhaust in car ( inconsistently) does not duplicate this action every day. Dealer could not duplicate issue, wrote letter to Toyota mfg. On this issue as of late no action yet.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The consumer stated while driving the vehicle hesitated and white smoke came from the tail pipe during start up. The contact took vehicle to a local dealership. Upon inspection it was determined that there was sludge in the oil. The dealership did not service the vehicle because of the high cost. There was a program to extend the warranty on the engine for Toyota camry regarding sludge build up, but not for the Toyota Corolla. The dealership stated they needed to take the engine apart and replace needed components.

We bought a 1999 Toyota Corolla with 19,509 miles on September 30, 2002 from an independent used car dealer. The check-engine light came on the same day we bought the car so we took the Corolla to the nearest Toyota dealership, jay Toyota of columbus, georgia to have the engine inspected the day after we bought the car. On our way to the dealership, we noticed excessive smoke from the tail pipe and "jerky" acceleration. The service department told us that the engine was in poor condition due to sludge damage and even admitted that Toyota CO. Has been having sludge problems in Toyota engines. However, the service department told us that Toyota manufacturer's warranty does not honor engine failure due to sludge damage. Their estimate for repair was $2500-$5800. The service department recommended that we not drive the Corolla anymore than necessary before we have the engine repaired because they said the engine may fail due to the sludge. We didn't have the engine repaired, but we did send an oil sample in for oil analysis. Although the oil we sent in only had 314 miles on it, the levels of fuel and iron in the oil were considered high. According to the analysis an oil sample from a gasoline engine should contain less than 2% fuel, our sample with only 314 miles on it already had fuel percentage of 2. 8. The universal average for iron is 9 parts per million, our oil had 34 parts per million of iron. It seems to us that our Corolla is having the same type of problem as the models that Toyota company has agreed to include in its program in which certain engine models with sludge damage can be repaired or replaced by Toyota at no cost. After visiting some car review and car survey sites and performing some searches on the web, we found that we were not the only Corolla owners having problems with engine sludge. We believe Corolla should not be excluded from Toyota's sludge program.
