While driving my 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback xse, I lost almost all power to my accelerator and a check engine light appeared on my dash. I came to a stop and stalled the vehicle, once it stalled I turned the engine back on and shifted into reverse a felt and heard a loud clunk noise coming from right under my car and its not only shifting into reverse is the loud noise active but its also shifting into drive from reverse. I scanned my vehicle with a aftermarket scan tool and got 2 exact same codes for "torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance/stuck off" and then two more codes for "torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control actuator stuck on". My torque converter in my ctv transmission failed. I was not at a risk of putting other people or myself in danger but if would have if I was moving faster at the time this happened. I have done my research on the recalls that are active on this vehicle and on the Toyota oem tis website there is only 1 recall that was taken care of in 2021 for the fuel pump and then there is a warranty enhancement program for the flow shut-off valve coolant leak. I did not find anything on that Toyota tis website about the cvt recall but when I search my year, make and model on the web, I see that there is a recall for about 3,400 vehicles in the USA and nearly 1,000 in canada that have a active recall for the ctv. I also saw the recall consequence and it matches up with what happened with my Corolla. I have attempted to contact 5 difference Toyota dealerships in my state to have them help me figure out the issue I am having with my vehicle not being listed in the recall but my ctv just failed. No one has reached back out in the past two days and I am continuing to call almost 3 times a day. I would like some clarity on how I should go about handling this issue.

This is my fourth service visit for the same unresolved safety issue on my 2024 Toyota Corolla hybrid. The problem involves a cracked fuel line and fuel vapor leak in the same area as recall 24tc08 (fuel tank filler clamp and vapor leak detection). The dealership initially failed to detect this during recall work and later claimed “rodent damage” after two prior visits. I have since used a professional-grade multirae lite gas detector and documented voc (volatile organic compounds) levels up to 123 ppm inside the vehicle cabin with the windows up. These readings indicate hazardous fuel vapor and exhaust gas intrusion, which pose serious health and fire risks. I have driven over 200 miles in these conditions), exposing myself to harmful fumes. The dealership has failed to properly repair the issue, and Toyota has not resolved the safety hazard despite repeated service attempts.

I have a 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback. The problems started on July 21st, 2025. While driving my 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback, I noted white exhaust smoke, even after the engine was warm. One week prior, I had filled the coolant reservoir, but when I checked it, the coolant was almost gone again. There were no visible leaks or puddles under the car. I refilled the coolant, but within days the car began shaking severely upon startup and emitted a coolant-burning smell. 5 minutes after, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard simultaneously. I replaced the car battery, and the warnings disappeared. However, while merging onto the freeway, the same warning lights came back, the car lost power, and I could not accelerate above ~25 mph. If this occurred in heavy traffic, it could lead to a serious collision. I exited the freeway and had the car towed. Dtcs from the independent mechanic and the Toyota dealer included: p11ed00 p030085 p030027 p030200 (cylinder 2 misfire) c142571 (stop light relay actuator stuck) u1117 b2284 b15ad the Toyota dealer identified a “port injector #2 malfunction” and recommended replacing all four injectors (~$2,000) but could not confirm this would fix it. They noted a coolant-burning smell but advised addressing the misfire first before further diagnosis. There is an active class action lawsuit alleging that 2019–2023 Toyota Corolla and rav4 models have defective coolant bypass valves that may cause engine issues, overheating, or coolant loss without visible leaks. This matches the coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, and eventual power loss while driving. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue in connection to the reported coolant bypass valve defects affecting 2019–2023 Toyota Corolla models.

My vehicle has a production date that falls within an existing safety recall j07 but Toyota is denying coverage. The cvt is making a grinding noise consistent with the torque converter issue described in the recall and my door has a stamp with being produced in 10/2018 when this recall was in effect. However they are denying coverage.
After shortly pumping gas, I received a alert on my car that I needed to check my fuel cap, after checking fuel cap I proceeded to drive on the highway during this time a multitude of sensors started to go off on my car, and it started to drive weird there were light such as my interlock, being deactivated, parking, brake, deactivated, malfunction of vsc, collision deactivated. Then suddenly while driving at an accelerated speed, and trying to slow down, my engine turned itself off, and I was not able to re-crank my car. There is an active recall with Toyota for the fuel pump, which I was told by Toyota was the issue, but due to my VIN not being associated they would not repair as a recall.
My 2018 Toyota Corolla has ongoing fuel pump-related issues that mirror those in the official recall, yet my VIN is not included. Every time I refuel, my car shuts off and will not restart for 1–2 hours. I’ve brought the vehicle to five different mechanics, including two full inspections with electronic diagnostics—none could find a fault except one who identified the fuel pump as the likely cause. Even Toyota-certified dealerships could not determine the issue. Additionally, any time I drive over 70 mph, the car displays a message telling me to take a break, then it begins to jerk and drive erratically, clearly a safety hazard. This problem has occurred repeatedly and poses a serious risk of accident on the highway. This issue is widely reported among 2018 Corollas and matches symptoms from Toyota’s known fuel pump recall. I’m shocked that Toyota has refused a goodwill repair and won’t inspect it under the recall. If the fuel pump is failing, it puts drivers and passengers at serious risk of being stranded or worse—losing power at high speeds. Please investigate this and consider expanding the recall to cover more 2018 Toyota Corolla vins before someone is injured or killed due to this known and dangerous defect.

2 years ago, I took my vehicle to the dealership that I bought it from, because I was given notice that there was a recall to the fuel injector system, and my scheduled maintenance was due. The dealership performed the maintenance and fixed the recall, and I drove the car home. The very next day I started the car and noticed that it took 2 key turns to start and didn't think too much about it. Since then, I've put 5000 more miles on the car so the odometer now says 23000 miles. Today I take my vehicle in for maintenance because I want to resolve the 2 key turn issue, and now the dealership says that my fuel injector is broken and I need to pay for the part and labor to replace. I don't understand how the fuel injector being physically damaged is something that I as the customer could have done in 5000 miles, unless the dealer made a mistake when fixing the recall.
The car stalled after trying to resume from stopping at a stop sign. After having a mechanic look at the vehicle it turned out it a bad fuel pump. Had to buy a new fuel pump from Toyota to replace the fuel pump and car is working perfectly fine. There was no warning whatsoever of it going bad.

At around 36,500 miles, my Toyota Corolla began experiencing issues with the coolant bypass valve, leading to engine overheating. This malfunction has significantly impacted my ability to drive safely, as the vehicle displays a notification every five seconds, obstructing my view of the digital speedometer and making it difficult to accurately monitor my speed. The issue was not indicated by a check engine light but a persistent "engine maintenance required" message. This defect poses a serious safety risk, and there's a potential class-action lawsuit in progress regarding this very issue, suggesting Toyota might have known about the defect but failed to disclose it. The faulty component is not available for inspection upon request. As more people began to experience similar circumstances, it could lead to fatalities. Other participants to the forums says the issues start when their covered warranty expires. Within these forums there's a inconstancy of service centers honoring fixes, with no cost, knowing that there is an issue. I took the car to both a third-party mechanic and an authorized dealership, and both confirmed the problem. I was quoted $732. 85 for the parts and labor within my area. Unknown the vehicle stalled mid turn as I was turning left, my wheel locked up and brakes wouldn’t engage.
Fuel injector failed, causing the engine to run extremely rich, misfire, and cause severe drivability issues. Issue occurred just outside vehicle base warranty. Problem was verified and confirmed by vehicle dealership. Mil was illuminated when drivability issue and malfunction started.

My car is at around 42,000 miles and has had an engine maintenance light on. I take it in and it’s a defective coolant bypass valve issue. The dealership tried to charge me 800 dollars to replace it. It’s an apparent fault on their part since it has been an apparent problem with other Toyota Corollas with a lawsuit already filed.
I had recalls “repaired”, but my airbags do not work and bob howard Toyota told me that they work and that they only check the sensor to make sure the sensor works. My fuel pump was was supposedly replaced but I still experience issues such as stuttering, slight stalling, engine is working harder to produce normal speeds, fuel economy has depleted and I’m loosing 194 mpg after each fuel up. There are no lights on, but I have a code reader that pulls in two issues. I reported to Toyota’s customer service and because they put in the system everything is okay they were unable to do anything.

I purchased my vehicle new in 2020. I am currently at 74,000 miles and noticed my engine maintenance required light come on although I received an oil change service two days prior. It’s a different message from the routine maintenance. I got it checked out at Toyota today and the “engine coolant bypass valve” needed to be replaced. When I looked into it I noticed the 2020 camry and 2020 rav 4 were recalled for the issue and repaired for free. However my model Toyota Corolla was not recalled and I had to pay $700. 82 to get it replaced at Toyota today.
The fuel gauge suddenly malfunctioned giving a false reading of the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. A technician said that the problem seems to be with the sending unit in the tank. I use top tier gas and the car has only about 29,800 miles. The fuel gauge continues to malfunction and could be a generic design flaw. Safety could be put at risk if the vehicle ran out of fuel while driving in traffic. There were no warning lights, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
We took our Corolla to the san luis obispo Toyota dealership for replacement of fuel pump per national recall of that part. Since then whenever we park the car on an incline we can strongly smell gas fumes in the cabin. When we took it back stating the problem they took it in but did not touch anything on the car (there were items on the back seat they would need to remove I order to get to the gas tank that contains the fuel pump. ) when we went in the invoice was marked "call after five" in pencil.
Vehicle has a bank to lean 1 engine code and when at idle, fluctuates from 700 rpm down below 500 rpm and shakes the car. The vehicle has stalled twice on me while stopped at a stop light. I understand the vehicle has had two recalls for the same issue and it has not fixed the problem yet.
Driving approximately 20 mph- hear a beep- get instructions to go to neutral- check engine light / power steering lights are on- pulled off the side of the road- put in park, turned off and waited a minute and it started normally.
The plastic fuel tank has a heat shield below it that keeps the fuel tank from getting too hot, and from debris hitting it. There is a strap that goes around the fuel tank. The heat shield has this plastic piece that holds on to the strap. On my car, this plastic piece snapped off and the heat shield was rattling loose against the exhaust pipe and exposing the fuel tank. I took my car to a Toyota dealer (glen mills, PA) and was told the only way to fix that plastic piece is to replace the whole heat shield and fuel tank strap. Even though this was due to their defective piece. I was told it would be $950 for this repair. I was forced to deny the repair due to the obscene price tag and took it to a dealer for a temporary fix until Toyota can be reasonable with their price. Upon further research, this plastic piece is known to break off on this type of car frequently. After watching many videos and going through many forums of people having the same issue, it seems Toyota is known for charging an outrageous price for this. To me, it appears they know this piece is defective and will be recalled at some point, and are trying to make money off of unsuspecting people. I would appreciate this being investigated further.

Toyota has installed several parts on my 2016 Corolla that were previous years' parts. In previous complaints, the tires (under 11,000 miles) started to dry rot. When filing the warranty repair, the dealerships and Toyota tried to claim that it was normal. After deep investigation, it was found that the tires were actually over a year older than the release of the vehicle. The tire warranty started when they were sold to Toyota, not when the car was purchased. They did the same thing on air intake components for the air filter system for the car. This is the 3rd issue. Since I purchased the lease in 2016. The car constantly had a check engine light. Typically, it was suggested it was a "gas cap pressure check failure". But at all of the routine inspections and services. Dealerships never did anything but clear the code and keep going. I recently went back in to do a "smoke check" as I was getting tired of the code constantly pulling the check engine light. Now, supposedly, it's the charcol canister. Ironically enough, Toyota had a recall on those items in 2015. I'm suspecting that this part if from that recall part, as it's been an issue (within service notes) to be checked since 2016 and was never suggested or further deep dive into the issue was never done. Now that the warranty is over, I'm supposed to pay another $800+ for the service parts and labor. Which Toyota should be liable for, as I kept taking the care to the dealership for warranty service, yet these checks were never done. When the service is underway, I would suggest sending this part to the NHTSA to investigate the old recalled parts are in fact being installed on newer vehicles. As this would be the 3rd item that was from other older models that mysteriously appeared on my 2016 model Corolla.

On the morning of July 21st the vehicle was parked in the garage the night before when all of the sudden our neighbors were yelling at my wife and I to exit the house because they saw fire flames and black smoke coming out of the garage. Everything in that garage and part of the house was destroyed. While on the road but in a slow bumper to bumper traffic, the engine turned off. Scary situation. I had to pull over on the side and managed to restart the engine. Same incident happened and the engine suddenly turned off while at a gas station.
I have only had the car for a year and a half, and I have already had to replace the battery which was less than 2 years old, all 4 tires (2 at 40000 miles and 2 at 48000), and now the engine wiring harness somehow got severed and has to be replaced which is almost $6k repair!.
On the morning of 12/7 I tried starting my car, and the engine wouldn't start. There were no warning lights. Finally late afternoon it started up and I immediately drove to Toyota in town. They said my battery was probably dead and replaced it for $160. I then drove to costco, parked, and then started the car up and went to hyvee. When driving out of hyvee, my car's big red battery light popped up, my car started shaking, and then it shut off and would not turn back on. I had to pay for a tow back to Toyota ($196). Today, 12/8, Toyota in town calls me and said it was never a problem with my battery (yet I can't get a refund for them not even checking it in the first place), and that the issue is a fuel pump malfunction. They said the part will cost $1,463 and I will not be able to start my car let alone be safe to drive without it fixed. I am a student and this was the first car I bought and paid off. I have not had any problems with my car, and pride myself in taking very good care of it. I could have gotten in an extremely bad car accident with my car stopping and shutting down, putting not only my life at risk, but other drivers as well. There have been hundreds of reports of 2018 Toyota corrolla's having fuel pump malfunction recalls; however, my specific VIN has 0 unrepaired recalls listed. This is completely out of the blue and with how new my car is (55,000 miles), how great of a job I do at taking care of it (this is my very first issue ever), and how many previous reports exist for the exact same issue (fuel pump malfunction) with the same year/make/model, it is shocking that my VIN has no associated recalls and am therefore receiving no financial help. I am lucky that I am safe and unharmed, because if this were happening on an interstate (which I frequently take to get to school), I easily would have died.
On 11/30/2022 the check light came on. After checking my Toyota manual it showed several reasons for the light. I called the Toyota dealer (bryan easler, hendersonville, nc) made an appointment for general service and inspection as to why the warning light came on. Was told the warning light was result of rodents chewing through the gas line causing fuel leak. This also happened about three years ago. Because the fuel system is all one piece it couldn't be repaired. I had to pay for a whole new fuel line system, second time I have had to pay for a whole new fuel system. There is no Toyota dealer my my area so I have to travel about forty miles for service. I am a very elderly half cripple woman long distance driving is tiring and dangerous for me, driving with a leaking gas line is dangerous for anyone. This is the second time I've dealt with this problem. There is something seriously wrong with a fuel line being exposed so animals can chew through it. It means I may have to replace it every time a rodent decides to dine on the fuel line. Where can I park and feel safe my gas line won't be destroyed? not to mention all the other dangers a leaking fuel line can cause. It makes no sense why Toyota would manufacture such a disaster on any car.

While operating our 2020 Toyota Corolla hybrid at a slow speed in a parking lot, we began to apply the brakes as we pulled into a parking stall. As the brakes were applied , the vehicle suddenly lunged forward with abrupt force. Both tires left acceleration marks on the painted concrete curb and the vehicle struck a large concrete pillar with such force that the pillar was partially dislodged from the ground. The vehicle was brought to a Toyota dealership and the sales management was notified of the incident. We also filed complaint with the Toyota corporation. We were contacted by a Toyota corporation representative and were told that they would conduct the vehicle inspection. Several weeks later we received a letter from the Toyota corporation legal department which informed us of their findings. The letter conveyed that no defect was discovered and the incident had not been captured in the vehicle's computer. We informed the Toyota dealership of the results. The only assistance offered was their willingness to sell the vehicle at auction, which we adamantly declined. At this time we are making arrangements to have the vehicle towed to a recycling lot for destruction.
2019 Toyota Corolla, I am the second owner. Vehicle has 66,000 miles. Vehicle will turn over, start for a very small second, and then stall (shuts off). Throttle body and battery have been changed. Car runs, then stalls. Im 24 and I bought the car because they're supposed to be safe and last. I brought this vehicle home in March and the joke is on me because not only does it choose to run, but it's not safe to even think about driving it. What happens if it chooses to just stop on the highway at 65 mph? dangerous. I have a family. Very upset.

Happened twice, different dates, dealer-camelback Toyota 1515 e camelback Toyota-phoenix-az, reviewed gas pedal problem and said come back if it happens again, problem with that mentality/solution I may be injured or dead.
My engine light keeps coming on and I have replace three canisters. I need help getting this fixed.
While driving at 55 mph, cruise control engaged, the vehicle suddenly lost power, the cruise control disengaged, the engine light came on and the traction control disengaged warning was displayed. The vehicle continued operating. After engine fault code stated there was a mass airflow sensor fault. Owner replaced the sensor. Two weeks later, the situation repeated, this time the fault read as an oxygen sensor error. After a day or two, the fault would clear, only to repeat a week or two later. Then, on Dec. 31, the vehicle completely stalled at highway speeds. It would restart, but if the rpms exceeded 2,500 it would stall again. Trying to get an appointment with the dealership, but will have to wait until after the new year for them to open again.
