37 Seats problem of the 2012 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

My complaint concerns the driver's seat in my brand new 2012 Corolla, purchased on 06/23/12. After more than 9 years of being the happy owner of a 2003 Toyota Corolla, I did not hesitate to trade it in for a new and much nicer model. I had no idea it would turn into a nightmare. As it turns out the driver's seat is so hard and uncomfortable it has resulted in my discovering a sciatica nerve I didn't know existed and the misalignment of my back to the point where I am now being treated by a chiropractor. I went back to Toyota initially, but was told there was no problem with the car and the seat was not considered defective. It was recommend I go to a place that could reupholstered the seat by possibly adjusting the padding. I did. It helped some, but not enough. I went back to Toyota determined to exchange the car, but to no avail since the deal I was offered was way over my budget. I have another appointment pending with the upholster and in the mean time I'm maintaining by seeing the chiropractor at least once a week. I'm in constant pain and have tried every kind of seat padding I could think of, but nothing has worked. It's like a bad pair of shoes that instantly hurt when you put them on. Unfortunately, one can't just throw a car out and get a new one that fits better. I'm working to resolve this problem. It's been difficult because I work mon. -fri and can't take time off to deal with this matter. Weekends aren't much help since the upholster also only works mon. -fri. For the record: I drove to CA right after buying it where I parked it for 3 weeks at my mother's house. She was recovering from an accident and I was there to take care of her. We did not go out. It was after the 5 hour drive and a few days later that I started feeling pain and it took me a while before I realized and became completely aware that it was the car causing the pain.

38 Seats problem of the 2002 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

About a week ago, driver seat could not return to upright position after adjusting angle. Then we noticed large piece of seat back frame was protruding on the left-hand side. Upon removal of covering and cushion to uncover the back frame, we discovered that, of the two solid-steel arms attaching the back frame to the bottom part of the bucket seat (the adjuster mechanism), the arm on the left-hand side has been split into two separate pieces, along a horizontal break in the steel itself. In short, the left half of the seat back frame is not attached anymore. Initially we suspected vandalism, but the break is definitely not a saw cut (even if were possible); and we also discovered that the steel arm on the right-hand side has a half-inch long crack in almost exactly the same spot, and also horizontal. This led us to conclude that the break on the left arm was due to a developing crack in the steel, and the right arm is clearly headed towards an identical fracture -- which would completely separate the seat back frame from the bucket seat altogether! the two steel arms are clearly made of sub-standard material. Without considering the significant cost of replacing the bucket seat, this is clearly a serious safety hazard, since at any moment the seat back could collapse completely due to sub-standard steel parts tearing apart. It is fortunate this was discovered while the vehicle was not in motion. This is definitely a safety recall issue. We have several photos of these defects, including close-ups, ready to send you upon request.

39 Seats problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

Transmission shift 1st to 2nd gear is hard, all other shifts are fine. Sometimes the transmission "chokes" and you get a hard bang in the drivetrain. Also, the driver's seat doesn't lock properly, sometimes I have to slam on the brakes really hard in order to get the seat front-to-rear adjuster to lock or "click" into place. The seat also squeaks while the car is in motion, and I weigh only 175 lbs. Car has about 3000 miles today, and the sales dealer will not schedule me for an appointment on my only day off from work (Saturday) so I guess I will have to take a personal day off during the week because apparently an oil change is more important.

40 Seats problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/23/2011

On 11/23/2011, I bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla at sterling mccall Toyota. Unfortunately, the vehicle was inadequate because of a hidden defect in the design and construction of the driver’s front seat. I am disappointed and concerned because the way the seat was designed and/ or constructed places a metal bar to be compressed against the spinal column. The location of this metal bar lowers the protection of the occupant’s physical safety and places the driver at a higher risk for lumbar vertebrae injury.

41 Seats problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/28/2011

When car hits bumps frame on car makes a noise . Also you can see it give or move. Car has a tough ride to it for a le model. Bottom of seat on car is to short. Brake pedal and accelerator pedal is to far to the right it needs to be alittle more to left also their to close together. Makes seat bottom to the right (needs to be straighter)to match pedals. I think dashboard is to low. The body noises happen more with one person in the car. Also on hot days and very cold days dash has a crack sound to it. The car is quieter on rainy days like a normal car.

44 Seats problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

The drivers side "sinking seat" problem started when I first bought the car in 2009. At that time, the local Toyota dealer was coughlin Toyota in newark ohio 43055. Coughlin told me they had no fix for the problem and never heard of it before. The drivers seat can be manually adjusted up or down by hand. There are 20+ positions up or down. Short people need the seat position to be all the way up in order to see over the dash board and hood for safe visibility and vision when driving. Tall people would want the seat position to be all the way down. I am short, 5' 6" tall. I need the seat to be all the way up for safe vision over the dash board and hood. The "sinking seat" problem occurs when the seat gradually goes down several positions on it's own. I believe this is a design defect by Toyota, not a user caused condition. This problem covers several years of Toyota production. It has been reported by others on google. I have local friends that have the same problem with their Corollas. Today, 9-5-2013, I again reported this problem by on line email to Toyota corporate for a solution. Here is an exact copy of my report to Toyota: "my 2009 Corolla has the wide spread and chronic safety problem of "sinking seat syndrome" with the driver's seat. When will Toyota have a fix for this chronic safety problem? my local dealer, coughlin Toyota, has no knowledge of the problem or a solution. This problem is very common on the internet (google). Some of my local friends have the same problem with their Corollas. I normally have all my Corolla maintenance done at the local Ford dealership for fast service and quality work. Unfortunately, Ford is not familiar with this specific design and safety problem. Can you help with a fix? if you just refer me back to coughlin Toyota for help, I am in big trouble".

45 Seats problem of the 2001 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 40 to 50 mph approaching a traffic light he was rear ended and pushed into the vehicle in front of him. The drivers seat base failed causing the seat to move forward push him under the dashboard. The driver?s frontal air bag did not deploy. He sustained injuries to his back and knee. The insurance company sold the vehicle to a dealer. Report number 0908117300 was filed with the manufacturer manufacturer also stated that an inspector would inspect the vehicle; however, they have denied the claim since the contact no longer owns the vehicle and they are not obligated to do so. The waco police department report number was 09-18449. The failure and current mileages were 106,268.

46 Seats problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that there was a vertical wire in the back of the passenger seat. When an occupant is seated in the passenger seat, the wire comes through and sticks them in their back. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it was a warranty issue. Unfortunately, the vehicle was out of warranty. The repair would cost $700. The contact feels that he should not have to pay for the repair since it was due to a manufacturer defect. The failure mileage was 73,790.

49 Seats problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

I purchased a brand new Toyota Corolla 2009. Since the date the car was taken from the dealer, the passenger seat keeps sinking lower without touching anything. This causes the mirrors to get out of focus since the position of the driver's seat changes, causing a hazard when emergent lane changing is required. I have taken the car to the dealer over six times. They deny there is a problem and have not taken care of the problem.

51 Seats problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/07/2007

I leased this Toyota Corolla ce in may 2007 (new) & since that first day the driver's seat constantly moves out of position 1/2 inch or more in all directions. . Every time I get in to the car I have to re-adjust the seat & I cannot figure out why this happens. . I hope no one ever hits me in the rear because the seat will move in some direction & out of alignment with the air bag if that even opens. . I thought I was the only owner with this problem until I just read another complaint for the same issue on the same vehicle. . I have filed 4 lemon law complaints on this vehicle for various issues including the tires & Toyota claims these complaints are all the result of 'design flaws' & refuses to fix any of the complaints & passes the tire problem off to goodyear who then passes the problem back to Toyota. . This vehicle is the worse car I have ever owned and is a death trap even the seat belts don't work correctly. .

Drivers seat shifts when accelerating and applying brakes - it began when the vehicle only had 7,500 miles on it. I've had the seat assembly replaced by Toyota three times. A technical service bulletin was issued in 2007 and it was then replaced for the fourth time. The issue still exists and Toyota told me they won't fix it anymore. I am a loyal Toyota owner but this just might change my mind.
