Valve stem fail:
12/9/08 4 new michelin weatherwise ii 80,000 mile tires purchased from sears baybrook for 2007 Toyota Corolla. 5/31/10 blowout on rf tire at 70mph with 20,000 miles on tires and 8/32 tread left. No damage to steel rim, full wheel cover remained in place. 6/3/10 blowout tire/rim taken to sears baybrook. Sears representatives not interested in cause or resolution of problem. 6/4/10 tire/rim taken to local discount tire, personnel immediately found cause of blowout (rapid pressure loss from stem failure, cracks at base). Recommended check other stems. 2 others remaining on car were also installed by sears baybrook December 2008. 6/5/10 after presenting proof of cause and arguing with sears baybrook, they agreed to replace tire with minimal charge. 6/5/10 I took replacement tire to install on my daughters Corolla at school in college station, texas. Asked sears college station to check other two sears installed stems for degradation citing recall information given by discount tire. Sears personnel said my information was incorrect on stem recall and refused to inspect my sears installed stems. I explained history to no avail. So I left my van in college station for my daughter to use and returned with the Corolla to confront sears baybrook personnel about the stems. 6/10/10 took the Corolla to sears baybrook to exchange a tire for correct tread and inspect the two 12/08 installed sears stems. Found one cracked and ready to fail. Prior to stem replacement, I asked that the stems be saved for me after removal. The stems were subsequently lost despite the salesman and I combing thru the garbage cans. I saw a sears printout of the stem recall/failure information with pictures of a stem identical in design and cracking to the one on the blow out tire as well as just removed from the Corolla. This proved that sears knew about the stem problem but failed to contact me or help when I asked. 6/12/10 researched valve stems, learned of china recall.

Two years ago I replaced all the tires on my 1998 Toyota Corolla with
a set of new kumho touring a/s 795 (175/65sr14). The tires are now about 15,000 miles old. The warranty states they should last 70,000. On 01/05/2009 I got the first flat tire. It has been diagnosed by auto service as caused by a "bad valve stem". On 07/03/2009 I got a second flat tire. It occurred with a different tire than the first incident above. It has also been diagnosed by the auto service as caused by the valve stem. Today 08/08/2009 I got the third flat tire while driving on highway. I have not got yet to the chance to go to the auto service but it seems these tires are not very reliable.

Tire valves on all 4 tires failed within a 2 month period. Tires were yokohama avid t4 and were fitted by prestige Toyota on December 9, 2006. Tire 1 failed on June 24th 2008 on garden state parkway, NJ. Tire was not recoverable due to us having to drive almost 1 mile on the tire to get to a safe area to pull over. It was replaced that day mavis discount tires in nanuet NY. Tire 2 failed on July 10 on the george washington bridge in NJ. As we had to drive over the bridge to safely pull over the tire was not recoverable. It was replaced next day by mavis discount tires in nanuet NY. Technician said tire failed due to broken valve. Tire 3 failed on August 24 in ridgewood NJ after driving from philadelphia to nyc. Tire was recoverable and examined by technician at fort lee tire center on August 25th. Technician observed broken valve. Valve was replaced and tire reinflated. Technician also inspected tire 4 (the last remaining good tire). By slightly pressing on the valve it came apart and the tire deflated. Technician replaced valve immediately.
Early a. M. Went to car noticed tire completely flat due to 'cracked/defective' valve stem. Had purchased 4 new tires 2/8/07 from sam's club. They replaced valve stem but did not mention anything about a recall and did not check other valve stems for defects. I was not aware of recall until hearing it on the news this week. Now concerned about other tires and if the 'new replacement valve is safe.

Bfgoodrich 175/65/r14 tires purchased at sears without "road hazard" on 4/22/2007. Tires claim to have a 60,000 mile manufacture warranty. Tires have blown out on the highway on 3 separate incidents. The first time, service tech's were not able to determine cause- no road hazards. Purchased another brand tire. Second incident again on the highway. Car was taken in and service tech's again could not determine cause. Manager at sears sold me another tire (same model) at half off. Third incident occurred on the highway again. This time same manager at sears did not resolve issue, claimed it was a valve stem and because I did not purchase road hazard said it was not covered. I insisted that he check if it was a tire defect and he responded that he could not determine that. Left sears riding on my spare tire. Nothing was offered by the manager. All 4 tires have blown out now and I don't know who to turn to.

Re:: tire p185/65r15 ( not on list ) on 5/30/07 I leased a 2007 Toyota Corolla, it came equipped with goodyear integrity tires p185/65r15 . On 7/21/07 I went to the dealer & told them I was having a problem with the air retention in the tires. It had become necessary with this car & these goodyear integrity tires to check the tires weekly & add air at that same time. I also strongly felt that there was a problem either with the tires or the valve stems & asked that they check them. They checked the tires & informed me that everything was fine, mileage at that time was 503 miles. Since I continue to feel unsafe with these tires every time I go out I check the tires & put the required air in. On 8/17/07 I contacted goodyear & explained in detail the serious problem with these tires or their manufacture gave me a case number 918405 & sent me to the nearest goodyear store to have the tires & valve stems checked. The service person at the store told me everything was fine with the tires & asked what type of a tire gauge I was using & sometimes they are not accurate. At 67 yrs of age I know how to check tire pressure & I can also tell by the way the car drives, handles, & stops that the tires are not at the recommended air pressure. I don't do a lot of driving (mileage now 956) but when I go back to work I want to feel safe while driving. I am terrified when I drive this car since I feel it has extreme safety issues where these tires are concerned & I do not want to become a statistic nor do I want to kill someone. I am getting nowhere with the Toyota dealer or goodyear the "old boy's club" stick together. There is a serious safety issue with these tires & it needs to be addressed either by the Toyota company, dealer or goodyear before someone gets killed.

I experienced three flat ultra hp 4 goodyear tires on three different tires on my 1996 Toyota Corolla due to faulty valve stems in an approximate 4 month period (may 2005 - August 2005). The tires were purchased in January of 2005 from the goodyear dealer in sacramento, CA. I was not injured because of the flat tires. In two cases help arrived quickly, but in the July 2, 2005 incident I was stranded for six hours and it was a very frustrating and upsetting experience because my car was impounded from the highway and I had to pay a parking citation because the tow truck driver under the goodyear contract never responded to my call. When I complained to goodyear, the gentleman at the counter in the sacramento office told me there had a been a bad batch of valve stems around christmas-time 2004. They replaced my valve stems with 4 metal, truck-type valve stems and I have had no problems since. However, it has taken my two months to try and get reimbursement from goodyear for the impound and citation charges I experienced. Until last week, when I said I thought this was a serious issue and would be complaining about it, I had been told that my claim had been denied, except for the $10 tire repair I eventually was able to get on 7/2. This week a new representative made contact with me and I may be refunded my expenses.
