Master cylinder failed - have to slam the brake pedal all the way to the floor and then I was still unsure if the car would actually stop. Had twin 3 year old boys in the car, scared for our lives. Dashboard lite up like a christmas tree. Second shop diagnosed it as a failed master cylinder. Parts plus labor = $3,066. I work for the school system and we don't have that sort of money. Will tow it home, hopefully find a used part, and try to replace it ourselves. The only reason I'm logging a complaint (because cars need repairs and I understand that) is because I'm seeing the exact same complaint over and over again "master cylinder Toyota Fj Cruiser 2007". How can so many of the same complaints on the exact same vehicle go unheard? please help, make the master cylinder recall apply to the Fj Cruiser. It obviously should be included. Thank you for your time.

The dealer did replace my master cylinder and the pressure pump after the experience with the abs issues as others have stated, this was when the car was under warranty. It seemed to fix the abs problem with the long pulsing and basically the computer taking over the braking. I am still experiencing a musshy pedal and lack of braking when the car is driven over a longer period of time or during the summer months. However after a lot of research and paying attention to the symptoms, I am convinced this is a pressure and heat problem. I don't know why on a 5700 lb vehicle that they are using ceramic pads, dot 3 fluid and this pressure system, it just can't handle it.

At 55 mph, I applied my brakes and rather than stopping the vehicle, the brake pad went all the way to the floor. By pumping the brakes repeatedly and slowing to a point I could apply the emergency brake, I was able to stop the vehicle. Had I needed to stop quickly, I would not have been able to. The master cylinder failed causing the braking issue. I had the component replaced and have had no braking issues since. The master cylinder has been recalled on 740,000 Toyota vehicles, but not the Fj Cruiser. . Read more...
Noticed a vibration in the brake pedal. It stopped after a while. Two weeks later, vehicle shuddered while braking to a stop at a very low speed. All the dash emergency lights for brakes, abs, vsc, lit up and braking ability ceased. Used emergency hand brake to stop. Parked vehicle and had towed to Toyota dealer per instructions in owners manual. Computer analysis indicated failed master cylinder. 2007 Fj Cruiser w/55,000 miles. $2258 cost of new master cylinder assembly + $495 labor + $101 towing + $10 misc + $218 tax = $3082. 19 total cost for part replacement. Have old part in possession.
After a "panic stop" in my 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser, the brake master cylinder failed. When at a stop light, the brakes will slowly fade until the pedal is on the floor and the truck will roll forward. This is not covered under warranty and I will have to pay to replace it. This is has occurred with other people and is documented on fjcruiserforums. Com.
