~tl the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. While driving 62 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Also, the brake pedal was applied, but the brakes failed to respond and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was able to restart after numerous attempts. The vehicle was towed to ridgeway sunoco (1615 long pond rd, rochester, NY 14626, (585) 227-4513), but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the parts needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted (t j Toyota inc, 6698 NY-56, potsdam, NY 13676, (315) 265-3350). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty had expired. The failure mileage was 105,000.

We have had a complete brake failure in the vehicle two times since we have owned it. The first time I was driving the vehicle in 15-20 mph stop and go traffic. I attempted to brake and the pedal felt like a brick and would not move. I quickly removed my foot off the pedal and attempted to depress the pedal again. It did slow the vehicle down but felt jittery as the pedal moved closer to the floor. I did not bring the vehicle in for assessment that time as it did not happen again on the way home, there was no service light on my dashboard signaling a malfunction, and I guess I downplayed the situation in my mind. The second time the brakes failed my husband was driving the vehicle. He was driving approximately 35 mph getting ready to slow down as a light up ahead turned yellow. He attempted to brake but like my situation, it was like hitting a brick. He held down the pedal and it finally depressed after about 2 seconds, slowing the vehicle down. The vehicle was brought into the dealership that day for assessment. They have stated they did not find any issues with the vehicle and could no duplicate the malfunction of the brakes. I have notified Toyota as I want to return the vehicle for safety concerns. I do not want to trade in the vehicle as it is unsafe to be driven by anyone. As it is, I need to drive the vehicle daily to take my daughter to school and do not feel safe in the vehicle.

I was on a highway at 70 miles per hour(speed limit of that part of highway). I started to try to decelerate to exit the highway with braking, the brakes failed to engaged, depressed brake harder and the abs started to engaged briefly then stopped. I started to pump the brakes and they finally engaged. I almost flipped the vehicle over going around the turn of the exit( which I had already committed to the turn) because my speed was too high. If the brakes did not catch after pumping them, I would have been in a serious accident. I proceeded to take the car to the dealer and appraised them of the problem. The technician stated the braking system worked normally. No codes of any pending or past problems in the computer dealing with the system. I do not feel safe and I am afraid this may happen again and I will not be so lucky next time.
A vehicle pulled out in front of me. I applied brakes to avoid an accident. Application of brakes led to right front tire lock up and skid, with strong veer to left. No antilock brake activity occured. Within a week of the panic stop above, the brakes now acting oddly; small bumps in pavement (freeway expansion joints) will cause abs to engage. Brake pedal becomes non-responsive. I called the dealer who said this was normal brake behavior. I plan on scheduling a service call to document the issue. I've owned many cars and SUV's - all purchased new with antilock brakes. This is plain scary behavior; I no longer trust the vehicle's brakes and fully expect brake failure and crash is imminent.

Brake failure.
2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser brake failed. Brake failed t abput 30mph approaching traffic signal intersection. 2nd time this happened. Vehicle has 2980 miles.
While traveling in the far right hand lane, in a work zone at designated speeds as controlled by road workers. The vehicle in front of me applied brakes causing me to due the same. My brakes initially grabbed momentarily and then released unexpectedly, while I was still applying the brakes. I jammed on the brakes the tires locked up and nose dived violently. . . . . Barely avoiding an accident. Obvious significant brake system failure.
Brakes fail momentarily after riding over a bumpy road. This is similar to the recall on the Toyota prius.
I own an 07 Fj Cruiser and my wife an 08, that has the exact same problem as the prius. When ever I go over a bump in the road at low speed and brake the brakes fail to work immediately when the car is on a bumpy or slippery surface, or when it drives over potholes I get that same thing. I have 26k on the vehicle and love it but now im confused about that brake problem or if there is one with this problem! help!!!!!!!!!!.
When braking on an uneven road surface the brakes momentarily fail.
When applying my brakes on several occasions my brakes would fail to engage and stop the car. It occurs when I come to a stop under normal braking and one tire hits a bump such as a man hole cover. No matter what I do the brakes do not engage and the car continues to roll forward. Anti lock does not engage when this occurs it is as if the brake pedal is dead. Also, the opposite extreme occurred yesterday when applied my brakes with normal pressure and the vehicle braked very quickly and unexpectedly hard. Everything flew forward in the vehicle. I believe these two issues are common to Toyota Fj Cruiser owners and are dangerous life safety issues.
My 2007 Fj Cruiser's brakes fail occasionally while braking on a bumpy road surface. When this happens, the first instinct is to press the brake peddle harder to the floor but the vehicle continues moving forward at the same speed of travel prior to the application of the brake. I have tried pumping the brake when this happens but if the road surface continues to be uneven the problem persists. I have had a few close calls but luckily have not had an accident yet.
This is a sporadic occurrence and cannot be reproduced deliberately: when braking suddenly at 40 mph and below, the vehicle does not slow down noticeably. It appears only minimal braking force is exerted at these occurrences, despite maximum brake force on the pedal. This happens also on dry pavement, ruling out skidding as cause of failed deceleration. The massively prolonged braking distance caused two near-misses. The vehicle was purchased new, with the brake defect first noticed during the first year of operation (first 15,000 miles). The dealership was notified, details explained, and an inspection of the braking system was requested. The dealership was unable to duplicate the concern because of the only sporadic occurrence of brake failure. No action was taken.

Temporary brake failure when driving over gravel county road. Brake pedal was depress and the brakes failed to slow the vehicle, causing it to roll through a stop sign and over the railroad tracks. Abs system seemed to be activated during this failure, the abs pulsing was felt in the brake pedal. When the brakes were reapplied they worked normally. This has occurred about three times over the last few months.
