Abs lights are on and it says to check the vehicle by dealer. This might be with all the hybrids.

The vsc light, abs light, check engine light and sound is are on. The code is back as well c1391 for this brake actuator. It is a well known problem with Toyotas . This was fixed once already by Toyota dealer and failed after 40k miles again. How can a part has failed again in such a short time and miles? this is a common problem and we can't get help from Toyota company other than to pay for their lack of quality on parts? I can't afford $4000 plust to fix a part that only lasted 40,000 miles. When is Toyota going to do a recall on this part and fix it for good?.

The vsc light, abs light and now the check engine light is on. The code comes back to c1391 which is the brake actuator. It is a known problem with Toyota that occurs @118,000 miles. I was told it was going to cost $4,000, but they finally only made me pay for the labor and tax. However, it has now been 30,000 miles later and that part has failed again. I can't afford $2500-$4000 to fix a part that only lasts 30,000 miles. I have seen this complaint over and over. Can we get some help??.
When driving down highway and needing to suddenly brake, abs light and check vsc system lights came on, the car did brake in time. However, soon afterwards the brakes did not immediately engage when reversing out of parking space or anytime when pressing brakes while reversing.
On Feb 13, I was driving an ann arbor, mi, street that was downhill and icy. I pressed the brake pedal until the abs came on, and held it on for 15 to 30 seconds. This did not stop the car, but slowed it, and allowed me to go straight, until after 10 to 20 seconds, the abs stopped working (no more pedal pulsing, no more abs noise), the wheels locked up, and I slid into the curb. Fortunately, there was no damage. A technician at Toyota dealership said it is normal on all vehicles for abs to stop working, and for wheels to lock up, after abs operates for a period of time. This may be what I experienced. He said one should release the pedal and then reapply pressure, or pump the pedal. This suggestion is quite different than the usual instructions, which say to continually press brake pedal. He had an explanation, which I cannot repeat -- something to do with brake fluid depleting somewhere, perhaps the master cylinder. The abs problem problem light has not come on. After that incident, the antilock brakes have worked fine, though I have not tested them in the severe conditions of Feb 13. Since the abs system seems to be working now, and the abs light is not on, there appears to be little chance the Toyota dealer could do something useful. There appear to be two possibilities: 1. There's a problem with Toyota Highlander abs systems when applied for an extended period of time. Nhtsa will become aware of this if more owners make reports. 2. The technician is correct that after activating abs for a length of time, one must release the pedal, or pulse it, in order for abs to continue to operate. In this case, instructions for using abs need to be substantially revised, and organizations such as NHTSA ought to inform the public of the issue and the potential for dangerous accidents when abs is applied continuously for too long.

Braking became erratic. Pedal was squishy and abs lights came on. This occurred over several months but on an intermittent basis. Lights would go off for a while then come back on.

Was driving in traffic when an alarm sounded and several dashboard lights lit up. Center display said "chech vsc system". I took it to the dealer who said the abs module needs to be replaced at a cost $2,800. Other than a vibration under the hood while slowing down the car appears to be operating normally. The abs warning light is on which leads me to believe the abs maybe disabled. I was able to run a vsc diagnostic and pulled code 45. Given the number of reported incidents for this failure it appears to be a wide spread problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Highlander. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake and abs warning lights illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle and shut the engine off. The vehicle was able to be restarted but would not shift out of park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the brake switch would have to be replaced. After the brake switch was replaced, the technician advised that the failure continued and would have to diagnosed a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 29,100. Kmj.
Vsc, tracking and abs lights come on when driving. Sometimes on as soon as I reverse in the morning. Used to go off if I turned car off and restarted. Sometimes doesn't come on until I am almost home from work (30 miles) sometimes the brakes feel off and not gripping. Had brakes inspected and everything fine.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Highlander. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise when depressing the brake pedal and the brakes failed to respond. The vehicle was shifted into neutral in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to dealer who diagnosed that the hybrid was calibrating and was performing normally. In addition, the contact stated that the vsc and abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the actuator and the hybrid pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I purchased a Toyota Highlander 4dr 4wd 4ect as a previously owned vehicle with a previously owned vehicle warranty. After owning and using the vehicle for a few months while driving in a traffic situation, the right side rear brake suddenly locked up intermittently accompanied by swerving, by panel vsc light flashes and an audible warning. This situation fortunately occurred near our residence on dry pavement. By driving very slowly we managed to get the vehicle to a safe location. It was then towed to a local Toyota dealer where it was inspected and the following diagnosis or similar was provided: customer states that the vsc lights are coming on and the brakes are locking up, yaw rate sensor is out of calibration. Recalibrated yaw rate sensor. The vehicle was released to us as repaired. The precise same vsc failure situation occurred on October 11th of this year and again we were lucky to have been in a reasonably safe location and driving under good road condition when it happened. The vehicle was picked up and towed again to the dealer facility for analysis and repair. We received the diagnosis: ?electrical repair, customer states that the vsc lights are coming on, and the brakes are locking up, yaw rate sensor is out of calibration. Recalibrated yaw rate sensor?. I was told by telephone that ?the previous repair lasted two years?. Any reasonable person would consider that the potential useful life of this vehicle should exceed two additional years. Furthermore, the failure could potentially reoccur immediately. After being told it was test driven and pronounced safe to drive I think that this is an unsafe situation waiting for another event to occur and that an accident could result from another instance of the vsc system failure. The problem was not properly located or properly repaired in each of the two occurrences. A proper repair of the vehicle after the first event would have prevented the second.
