Checked oil last week also dealer supposedly changed oil couple days ago yellow triangle light came on it was just bought so unfamiliar with the warning lights tried to look up told me nothing. Today I left a friends house (3miles ) she called and said I left massive oil leak left on her driveway. Sure enough I looked on my driveway and I also had huge oil leak lucky she called me I could have blown the engine or it could have caught fire if I had driven it any farther or she didn't tell me proceeded to look up common Toyota Highlander problems. And there it was saying massive oil leaks from the line exploding also said that the repair Toyota gives to fix the problem has problems too I'm assuming this is what the problem is I'm lucky I was not out on highway having it towed tommorow the picture is at her house she sent after I left. My driveway oil leak is twice that size.

Engine oil cooler hose "leaking". Toyota did issue a technical service bulletin, but was never checked during regular dealer servicing as part of the hoses. Condition is on the 3. . Read more...
I had an engine oil cooler hose rupture at 131000 miles. I left an oil slick a mile long on the street causing a hazard in the road and a mess in my garage. Engine oil had sprayed all over the lower half of the engine and onto the catalytic converter which was heavily smoking and I noticed a small fire down in the lower half of the engine compartment so I had to pour water on the fire. Toyota has known about this issue for a good 7 years because I received a "warranty enhancement notice" (ze2) in 2014 stating that the oil cooler hose could spring a "leak" and they were extending the warranty for said part to 10 years or 150,000 miles. But Toyota played down the severity of the issue stating that a majority of vehicles with this known defective part wouldn't fail. Toyota knew that the rubber hose will fail on all vehicles due to the heat/cool cycle by its close proximity to the catalytic converter (about 6 inches away) so they redesigned the oil cooler lines to be all metal. All Toyota/Lexus vehicles with the 2gr-fe engine (2007-2011) will experience this catastrophic failure of the rubber oil cooler hose(s) over time and I'm sure vehicle fires have already happened due to this known design flaw.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph smoke was suddenly present coming from under the passenger side of the front hood before the engine stalled. After stopping and examining under the hood it was discovered no oil was present in the engine and oil had spilled onto the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine oil cooler line had burst causing oil to leak from the engine. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 82,652. Jft.
Dear sir/madam the Toyota hilander /camry and sienna have a oil cooler line which is made of rubber and explode due to the high temperature of the oil. All these vehicles have been causing oil to be leaked all over the roads of America with Toyota not having issued a recall. Years 2008 - 2013 . This issue is dangerous .
My car is only 2years but I found oil are leaking. I had check up at local body shop and they found out that oil leaks vacuum pump so I need to replace.

The rubber oil cooler line (part number: 040004-29131) of our 2008 Toyota Highlander burst at 139,000 miles causing an oil spill and complete and irreversible engine failure due to oil starvation while vehicle was in high-speed motion in a congested highway during icy-and foggy conditions. Driver managed to remove the vehicle from the road, not causing any accidents, just before the engine irreversibly broke and shut down. Two days prior the incident, oil-change scheduled service was performed by a Toyota-certified dealership showing no signs of engine/engine oil-cooling line abnormalities. Defective software displayed warnings on the dashboard of low engine oil/pressure seconds before the engine shut down. This defective part has been specifically acknowledged in the Toyota's 2014 "warranty enhancement program, ze2" for repairs at no cost until January 31, 2016 or past that date for "10 years from the date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. " Toyota claims they mailed a letter for "several months" after "late July 2014" for ze2 to owners but the owner of this vehicle neither ever received such letter nor was notified by Toyota corp. /dealership. Vehicle has been under *consistent, scheduled, and regular car services* since its original and sole purchase in 2008. This should have been a recall to the NHTSA upon *unreasonably dangerous design* for using rubber pressurized pipes in v6 engines instead of metal-based materials, defective part awareness, incident history, and the extent of the high hazard risk that involves this part failure: oil spill (not oil leaking as stated in ze2) can occur at high resulting in a non-opportunity to prevent vehicle loss and high probabilities of crash, injuries, fire, and/or fatalities. This is also exacerbated by the embedded defective software in terms of poor timing to display engine failure.
The engine oil cooler pipe on my 2008 Highlander was defective and leaked at 124,000 mile/12 years (in Feb 2020). Happened while I was on a highway & smoke in my cabin. Toyota has set a limit of extended limited warranty (lcs-ze2) to fix this defect but only if it occurs at < (or equal) 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. Many reports on the web indicate cars past the Toyota arbitrary cut offs for time and miles. This is a serious safety defect/risk because all of the oil could leak out from a defective pipe & engine could catch fire or freeze. I had smoke in the cabin and a low oil pressure warning light. Of note, my car was serviced (oil change) and a multipoint inspection by Toyota 3 weeks prior to oil leak (in Jan 2020) and the oil leak was not noted. This means that the leak occurred recently and well past the arbitrary time interval/mileage limit set by Toyota. At no time did my Toyota dealer notify me regarding the extended warranty enhancement or that this could e a problem or nor did my Toyota dealer specifically look for this problem on my car during inspection. A full scale recall is required for this defect, not a limited warranty enhancement letter. Attached are 1- the invoice to fix the oil engine pipe leak 2- the inspection from Toyota dealer with no evidence of an oil leak (Jan 2020) 3-warranty & webchat other owners complain of similar dangerous effects of the oil leak and expensive repairs that occurred past the Toyota arbitrary limits 4. Invoice documenting the oil change (Jan 2020) showing no evidence of a leak when Toyota set the limits on the extended warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles, they had no idea if that would be sufficiently in length to catch all the problems. Because Toyota owners keep their vehicles for a long time, these arbitrary intervals are not sufficient. Therefore a full recall is required.
Car has over 117,000 miles and is excessively consuming oil. There is no sign of leaks anywhere. I do not get any warning anywhere about low oil, all I see is a small message that sometimes blinks indicating oil pressure. Oil is not lasting 1000 miles. I thought maybe the oil was not properly filled but after a second oil change, same happened, oil empty with less than 1000 miles after an oil change. Car has been always kept with all recommended maintenance and all oil changes have been done every 5,000 as recommended by Toyota. Have never been in any accident that could cause any engine problem, seems this is a factory defect. In the electrical part, power back door does not close/open, there is a recall for that but no dealers in my area will fix it because one of the parts that is inside that motor is not listed in the recall specs and dealers will not fix unless I pay. I took the car to the dealer about 2 years ago. This refers to the warranty enhancement letter zg4.

Well before my oil changes are due, my vehicle needs more oil. There are no apparent exterior leaks but the oil has to be leaking somewhere or burning away through the exhaust.
I was turning into a parking lot and I started getting "low oil pressure" alerts on my dashboard. I was worried if it was a sensor issue and kept moving till I parked my vehicle. Upon further investigation, I saw that oil had started to drip from where I had turned, and when I parked the car the oil drip got bigger and had pooled under the vehicle. Based on the information I got from the Toyota dealership, this was a known issue which starts as a small leak but due to pressure, the oil cooler pipe bursts open. . Read more...

With 1000 miles left on an oil change or so our car would randomly stall when you make certain turns. Occaisioanlly the oil light would pop one when it would stall. I checked the dipstick and you could not see anything on it. I added oil and took it into dealer. They are doing a consumption test to see how much we lose in 1000 miles. This vehicle only has 86,000 miles on it. We have no leaks and no visible smoke coming out of exhaust. This has me worried of similiar problems they had with one of there other 4cyl engines.
I had this car 2017 brand new, after 10000 mile, I heard some noises for my front wheels, I did my oil and maintance service often by Toyota dealership,I told them all the time about brakes and front wheel make some noises, they always everythings looks fine, after 2 yrs I had engine check lights on, I went to Toyota dealership, and they sayed it s not covered I have pay my own money for fixed, they sayed engine misfire on cylinder, for new car only driving 2yrs, it s happened Feb/05/2019, after 6 months they found front passenger outer cv boot leaking and I have to pay my own packet too, and now I have again problem , when I am driving on freeway about 70 mgh I heard some noise on my car back seats down, when I looked under my car there is no crack or leaking, looks everything good, I dont know where is noices comming from my under car, I just went to maintence today again Toyota dealership they sayed everythings normal, I dont know now what should I do, I am not really happy with my new car and with Toyota.

I was driving on a highway I heard a noise and smoke started coming from under the hood I pulled over and looked under the hood and saw smokr a tow truck driver who happened to be passing by pulled over and sure fire under the hood he put the fire out with a fire extinguisher I called nine-one-one four fire trucks to make sure the fire was completely extinguished my mechanic says a rod popped and punctured the oil tank which caused all the oil to leak out onto the side of the highway the firemen actually spread sand over it my insurance company he's refusing to repair the car because they say there was a maintenance issue because there was no oil in the car when they looked at it there was no oil in the car because it all leaked out on the side of the road I had just put oil in the car the previous day this happened on November 26th 20186.
We were traveling on the interstate after about a 7 hour drive and the low oil pressure warning display was flickering on and off but never stayed on consistently. I pulled over and there was no oil in the engine, I mean it was bone dry. I'm truly surprised the car was still operating. When oil was put in, it poured, and I mean poured, right back out. We had to be towed because the car could not be driven. It was determined that the engine oil cooler line was leaking.

Oil cooler pipe malfunction. While driving, the oil cooler pipe started to leak from a hole in the rubber section between the metal clamps. All the engine oil came out within a few minutes while driving on the highway. Toyota had a recall in 2011 for this equipment, but no longer allows repair or replacement under recall.
The oil cooler hose leaked. . . Lost all oil and oil pressure in less than a few minutes. . . Lucky the engine didn;t blow. There should be a recall on this as it appears it has happened to thousands of people.
The car blew the engine oil cooler pipe leaking profusely I drove it at night came home and there was a 12 x 12 oil leak in my garage. I pulled it out of the garage with the motor running and there was another 12 x 12 oil spill on my drive way. I have a line all the way down my street of the oil spewing out of the engine . I had to get the car towed the following day to Toyota who knew about the part and offered an extended 10 year warranty to fix this problem. There was only 2 quarts of oil left in the crank case. No low oil light came on. I would have blown my motor for sure if I was on the highway. There is a video from Toyota about the engine oil cooler pipe leaking and that they changed the part from rubber hoses to metal. Why was there not a recall on this part. It is not a matter of if it will fail but when. This could have caused a serious situation!.
Noticed large oil puddle in driveway. Had car towed as oil loss could have caused fatal damage to the engine. The oil line was diagnosed as dry rotted and needed to be replaced. The replacement oil line was vastly different than that of the original line indicating a problem with the previous design. The leak began while driving and we were able to trace the oil for miles leading home. The oil indicator light did not come on to warn of low oil. Toyota did recall other vehicles for the same problem however not this particular make and model. After talking to Toyota's recall department I was told if I had had the repairs taken care of at a Toyota dealership I may have been able to be reimbursed slightly (a percentage of the bill) however since I used the shop of my choice there is no option for any reimbursement.
Massive oil leak from oil cooler line of 2009 Toyota Highlander with tow package at ~78,000 miles. Rubber hoses burst and oil leaked out from engine.
Engine oil leaked almost empty. When I picked up kid from school parking on the driveway on that rainy day, saw a leak line on the wet ground. Next Saturday I filled a qt oil to the level and drove to repair shop. The technician said almost all 5. 5 qt oil was leaked out. Turned out it was timing chain cover's silicon sealer broken. I am the person always check around my car before going out, if not checking, things could be very bad.
Oil pressure warning light went on almost immediately pulled over found no oil on dipstick had rapid oil leak, dealer replaced oil cooler hose with oil cooler pipe.
Toyota had a problem with there 4 cylinder engines in camry and Highlander with engine mountaing threads pulling away for a three or four year period. My car started leaking oil about 90,000 miles when I took in to a dealer he told me about the problem and Toyota did not issue a recall. I was told only fix is a new engine. They also had a problem with the catalytic converter also again no recall.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, he noticed a large amount of oil in the driveway. The contact checked the oil level and it showed that there was no oil in the vehicle. He then added oil and found a steady stream leak from a rubber hose. The contact purchased an after market metal hose and replaced the defective hose. He then drained the oil and found that there were metal shavings in the oil, which he assumed came from the bearings. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 64,000.
Oil leak from backside of engine. Toyota has acknowledge the issue with a service bulletin TSB-0321-08 but did not perform a recall. Therefore, you may experience this problem and you may find the issue after your warranty expired. This is a very expensive repair - estimated to be more than $2k. Toyota continue to experience quality problems and should honor their products within or outside their warranty when it is clearly related to poor quality.
Went to local dealer to get oil change, 15 minutes later oil leak all out from bottom. Dealer said that it was a hose malfunction, but no recall, car is only two yrs old.
The engine on this vehicle required a complete rebuild, at a cost of over $5000 due to oil leaking into the engine and fouling the components. In the months leading up to the complete engine failure, the vehicle stalled repeatedly on both city roads and highways, creating a dangerous situation several times. Whenever the oil was changed, the problem became worse and the vehicle would use up to 4 quarts of oil per week for several weeks. I contacted Toyota's corporate office by letter and phone and was told that no defect existed. Toyota is currently recalling earlier models of this vehicle for the same problem. The vehicle was emitting white smoke from the tailpipe for several months before the engine failed. Eventually, it would only sustain a speed of 30 mph. The vehicle was checked by three mechanics who all found the same problem. This vehicle is used to transport a handicapped person, and was also used to transport children frequently. In order to save the money for the repairs, which I had to make because I am still making payments on the loan for this car, I had to purchase a very old and inexpensive car to get to work. The Toyota sat parked for 9 months before it could be fixed. Had I not been able to buy this second car, I would have lost my job. I could not put my daughter's wheelchair in the other car. She is able to walk only for short distances. This created a severe hardship and also contributed to her developing a foot wound and infection of the bone in her foot. This medical issue required 3 surgeries and 5 hospitalizations, plus over 6 months of iv antibiotic therapy. I narrowly avoided several accidents when the car stalled in traffic. If I was not such an experienced driver, it is highly likely that a serious accident would have occurred.

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning the vehicle was leaking oil underneath .
Engine oil sludge. The estimated cost of our engine problem was $7,200 (canadian) and it started at 38,000 km (24,000 miles). The matter was resolved when we dug up an old oil change slip that my wife and I had forgotten about altogether. Before the discovery we were unable to provide a receipt for each year that we have owned the car so Toyota insisted that it was customer negligence that resulted in the oil sludge. Top engine block was replaced and we got off scott free. When an oil leak was detected after a week of getting the car back from the shop, we brought it back in and they fixed it again - no charge. I feel that this was a bit like david knocking out goliath.
2008 Toyota Highlander. Consumer is not satisfied with decision on her Toyota the consumer stated the vehicle was leaking oil and the cover had to be resealed. The right front main oil seal was replaced as well.
