1 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2020 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 11/28/2020

We were driving in the freeway and suddenly we heard like a "bang" sound, like an explosion. We looked around us and wondered what it was. Then we heard the air from the roof seeping through and we took an exit, it was a shattered sunroof. Since the rain is in the forecast and we were going on a cross country vacation, we used a flex tape to prevent for the glass to keep shattering and from the rain.

Entune radio/headunit (hu) reboot itself while in a call. Reboot occurs while vehicle is in motion at any speed, during any driving condition. 3 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

While driving, the radio and mapping system will suddenly stop working. There then is no way to reset the map and/or radio, other than to stop the vehicle, turn it off and then restart it. Sometimes, it takes more than one restart to have the system back to running normal. This happens when the vehicle is in motion and on various types of roadways or highways. It has happened on various dates, but the most recent occurrence was on Aug. 10, 2019.

4 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2018 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 03/21/2019

Early today, 3/21/19, was alerted that my hatchback was open. The car had been locked for several hours, but when I came outside I was told by a friend that the hatch had just opened on it's own. About an hour later, I was driving after dark and received a blindside mirror alert--the closest car was at least two car lengths immediately behind me in the same lane. Shortly after, the caution light came on, beeped, the eco light came on, it beeped again and the eco light went off. About 40 minutes later, I had the bright headlights on with the auto dim enacted. The headlights went out, the dash lights went out, the radio stayed on, and the navigation screen got very bright. I had to return the light control on the signal switch away from the setting and then back to get the headlights and dash light to come back on. All events except hatch were when vehicle in motion. Hatch opened while parked and empty. All events were within approximately 2 hours of each other. 10000 mile service had just been completed 3/15/19 with no concerns noted.

5 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

The radio/navigation system will malfunction and shut off and restart. At night this is a hazard due to the flashing light of the radio causing a distraction. This is also a hazard due to the navigation system not working. This happens at random times, it could turn off and on several times a minute or it could do it once an hour. If there is a short in the radio could this cause a fire? this happens all the time while in motion or sitting still and on every road.

6 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

While driving the navigation/radio will freeze and become unresponsive. The radio will then reboot and reset all settings back to default. This is very distracting for the driver and the passenger in the automobile and could lead to an accident. There are numerous complaints on various forums. I asked Toyota fix this issue and they offered to update the firmware for $70. This is not a part that broke or degraded from ware, this radio doesnt work and Toyota is trying to make money off of this. I contacted entune to see if I could get the file to update the software myself and was told no. I was told if I had less than 36000 miles I could get this fixed for free as it would be under warranty. This isnt a map update, this is a function that doesnt work. I paid for this premium audio package that doesnt work. Why would my mileage play any part to my radio not working?.

7 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2016 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

I purchased the top of the line limited platinum model in order to get safety features. However, the warning chines for lane departure, back up cross traffic protection etc. Are very faint when compared to other cars that have these features. When the radio plays music they can not be heard at all rendering these protection features useless. Furthermore, the volume of the warning chimes can not be adjusted which was confirmed by both the dealer and Toyota.

8 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2011 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Heater/ac assembly is leaking onto a control module under the dash which I believe the the airbag module and soaking the front drivers and passengers carpets and padding. Checked for blockage in drain tube. None, used compressed air to blow out drain tube just in case. Did not solve issue. Removed passengers side panel and found that the factory seam of the ac/heater assembly was leaking water when the ac is on. (I have video) the design of the assembly is poor in that the seam splits the assembly left and right rather than top and bottom. Repair of the unit would have required complete removal of dash, steering, etc. To solve this, I placed 3m glass setting butyl tape over the seam such that the seam in the unit was sealed above the condensation drain. This resolved the issue.

9 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2002 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 04/07/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Highlander. While driving 65 mph, the passenger replaced the cigarette lighter and, without warning, it ejected and burned his hand. Prior to the failure, the cigarette lighter failed to operate when the passenger attempted to use it to warm his coffee. On may 22, 2007, an inspector from Toyota videotaped and duplicated the failure, however, he was unable to discuss his findings with the contact. On June 18, 2007, the contact received a letter stating that a factory representative inspected the vehicle and the case was transferred to Toyota motor sales USA. The contact was given case number 200705071073 and was informed that he was responsible for notifying Toyota motor sales USA for more details. The failure mileage was 87,900 and current mileage was 94,563.

10 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2005 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 03/23/2007

Purchased new Toyota Highlander 2005 model year in July 2005. Vehicle was parked in driveway since. Vehicle only has 23,000 miles. Corrossion developed within 9 months of purchase in these areas: base of antenna, antenna mast, window frames, and aluminum or alloy wheels show bubbling in the surface that are increasing in size and diameter. * dealership and Toyota were contacted to remedy problems with wheels without success. Dealership repainted corroded windows. Dealership and Toyota claim corrosion is due to environment - I have had 2 other vehicles parked in the same location without visible signs of corrossion. I am concern that the continued expansion of the bubbles and corrossion on the wheels will create a safety hazard if it weakens the structural integrity of the whees.
