1 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/29/2019

The car is inadequate in the winter. When it snows I can't keep the windows clean. They changed the fittings and I can't even put winter blades on the car. Also, and this applies to almost all new cars as well, the led lights freeze over. It's a safety hazard not to have lights that work. And it's a safety hazard to have to get out of the car in dangerous conditions to try and scrape ice off the windows and lights. The front and rear lights get caked with ice and snow. This picture is of my windshield after an hour of warming up. The wipers stay caked with ice. And when I turn them on, this is what happens. They smear the windshield with ice. They smear it with water too. I can't squeegee water with ice. I'd love to trade it in, but everyone has led lights. They're a safety hazard. And these issues are keeping me from buying a new car. I would appreciate it if you addressed these issues. The car companies won't listen to me. Thank you have a great day.

2 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

The instrument panel combination meter on my 2007 Prius causes the instrument panel lights to fail to illuminate when starting . This happens haphazardly with lights not functioning for multiple startups and then suddenly functioning as normal. The lights work one minute then then they don't. The lights will fail at the starting of the car and remain off for the entire drive during each occurrence. While in this disconnect mode the car will fail to shut off when stopped and the start/off button is pushed. You must hold button down for a few seconds as you would with a computer that wouldn't shut off normally and it will shut the engine off while still leaving you in accessory mode then you must tap twice quickly to shut off completely and that some times won't work so I 'll need to leave the car for as short a period as I can and pray nobody steals it. I know this problem is common with some Prius years and there has been an extended warrantee of 9 years established to help somewhat with this problem. I believe this was initiated by Toyota to stave off a possible and more costly recall. Why hasn't there been a recall for such a dangerous faulty part as the combination meter? the dangers are apparent : driving with no speedometer or warning lights , automobile failing to turn off correctly. Correcting this problem is very costly repair $800 plus. The 9 year warrantee helps some and I believe a calculated move to avoid helping others such as myself . When I reported my problem I had owned my car 9yrs. And 5 mos. The dashboard lights are not something you'd expect to lose unless you might have to replace a fuse to repair it. If this repair costs $800 then Toyota's technology is faulty and inefficient . Big question : why was this problem treated to an extended warrantee instead of rectified for all concerned by a recall ?.

3 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

My wife, 2 children, and I were on a rod trip last night. About an hour into the trip, I noticed that I thought one of the headlights appeared to be flickering (but both had been fine art he beginning of the trip). We stopped about an hour later to rest, and I saw that the passenger headlight was out. We decided that the flickering must have been the headlight failing, and that we needed to get it repaired after getting to our destination. Our real problem happened about 2 hours later when my wife was driving and suddenly both headlights went out while traveling 65mph and we were plunged into total darkness. Fortunately, we were approaching an exit off ramp, and we were able to safely get off the freeway and to a gas station using the light of our hazard lights. After getting to the gas station, we were able to get both headlights back o by toggling the headlight control on and off. We decided the safe thing to dosas to get a hotel and resume our trip in daylight. The hotel was only a short distance down the road, one of our headlights began flickering again and went out again in the short time it took us to get there. Toggling the control again got the lamp back on, but need to take our car to get serviced as soon as possible before driving it at night again. . Read more...

4 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

I was returning home from a trip with a friend and driving on major freeway late at night, very dark with little visibility in a rural, unlit area. . All lights in vehicle shut down while driving 70-75 mph. We could not see anything even the road, was like driving blind and very frightening trying to navigate the Prius off the road safely without getting hit by other vehicles. Once I stopped the vehicle off the side of the road in the far left lane we turned the vehicle off, but left the hazard lights on and let the vehicle sit for a few minutes. We started again, lights came on, and I drove the vehicle another 100 miles without any incident until we entered the city. I had a similar problem driving the 12 remaining miles home, but the front yellow lights worked and I had the hazard and brake lights working. The city lights improved visibility. I took the vehicle in and the only problem they could find was with one of the headlights. I was told I needed to replace both. I can't emphasize how dangerous and frightening this experience was for my friend and I, still unsure how we avoided a tragedy. I would like the NHTSA to investigate and make a recommendation to have some type of warning in the vehicle.

5 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

The head lights turn off, while driving, when turned off, and on again it comes back on. Toyota will not replace the lights because we are over 50000 miles. This is an ongoing problem with the Prius high intensity head lights, and the whole component should be replaced with a better version. They want to charge us 450 dollars for replacing the light bulb, which according to research will stop working again, after a period of time. Please have Toyota recall this light system and replace it with a better system. Its a great hazard when your lights go off while you are driving at night. Thank you for your consideration.

6 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/22/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Prius. The contact was driving between 35-40 mph when the headlights failed. The contact engaged the emergency hazard lights until she was able to drive to a safe location. The headlights began to function after the contact abruptly jolted the headlight switch however, the driver side headlight would only illuminate sporadically. An authorized dealer was notified of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. The driver side headlight was previously replaced but not recently. The failure had not recurred since. The failure mileage was 138,500. Updated 4/4/11 updated 04/06/11.

7 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The headlights on my 2008 Toyota Prius just go out randomly. Sometimes it is just the driver side or the passenger side headlight, but at times it has been both. I have to turn the headlights off and then back on to get them to work. But this isn't a permanent solution because it will happen again the next time I start the car. It has even happened 2+ times on the same trip. This is a safety hazard because I generally don't know when one or the other light has turned off unless I happen to see it in the back bumper of the car in front of me. And it would definitely be a hazard if both lights go out and the on/off trick doesn't get them working again. The car is almost 3 yrs old and has 45000 miles. Toyota service department claimed to have not heard of any issues with the lights and I was told they could not see anything wrong and could not replicate the problem while they had my car.

8 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Low beam headlights on Prius 2010 are very dim particularly for driving on dark country roads and they only project out a short way especially when going up a hill took to dealer who said they were ajusted correctly seems like a safety hazard high beam headlights are fine.

9 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/08/2009

We own a 2006 Toyota pruis. The headlights turn off. We had the same issue repaired about 2 yrs ago when the car was relatively new. Now it's back. Looking on the web, there is significant anecdotal evidence that there is a significant design flaw with the lights. There are literal thousands of pointing on this particular issue. It is not a major financial problem for us as the first was fixed under warranty and we bought the extend warranty that cover this also, but it is a safety hazard as the lights will eventually totally go out when driving. To restore them, you have to rotate the light switch from on to off and back on. My guess is they have a problem with the circuit card, but aren't doing anything to deal with it. It would be interesting to know if Toyota changed the circuit card design.

10 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Unit problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

The headlights intermittently shut off while driving. Sometimes it's the right one and sometimes it's the left one. I'm afraid that sometime it will be both. This is a safety hazard to have the headlights go out. I have had it checked out but since it is an inconsistent problem, it is not always not working when I take the car in so they have a hard time diagnosing it and refuse to change out the headlight system. They almost look at me in disbelief as if they've never heard of such a thing. Yet, I see many other Prius' driving around with one headlight on so I know I am not the only one in there complaining about this problem. They need to look into it and do the right thing to fix the problem before a life is lost and they have to do something to fix this problem.
