2 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/23/2024

After an interstate highway drive and when then discovering my tire had been punctured by a screw or other object, but with still enough air in the tire to drive to a tire repair facility, I drove to have the puncture repaired. On repairing the puncture of the 185/65r15 tire, the repairman observed a portion of the tire’s steel belt to be visible on the inside of the tire. An immediate replacement of the tire was recommended, but this facility did not have an identical tire to provide. The facility emailed me a picture of the protruding steel belt. This writer has twice reported the matter to the tire’s manufacturer, but still no response since the first report on 09/24/2024. No party other than the tire repair facility has inspected the tire. This writer has recognized no noticeable effect of the defect, but the repair facility stated it could cause a blowout at any time.

6 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/17/2006

We had to replace the tires with only 20,000 miles on in order for our vehicle to pass inspection. Tires are rated at 50,000. Dealer claimed it was because our rear wheels were out of alignment yet they had no way of aligning the rear wheels so nothing was done to correct the problem but pay above msrp for two new tires. A few weeks later we went to a local tire store for two more as we were traveling and didn't want to take any chances.

: the contact stated while the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance, the mechanic noticed a tread separation problem on the front driver side tire. The contact was referred to the tire dealer and upon inspection the tire dealer determined the tread separation was related to impact damage. But, the vehicle was never involved in an accident or other type of impact. The tires had been regularly rotated every five thousand miles as recommended by the manufacturer. The tire was replaced with a like tire by the tire dealer. The failed tire was a good year, integrity, p185/65/r15.

8 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/15/2005

Check engine light kept coming on then going off. Took to dealer but they couldn't get it to duplicate problem. While there they noticed tires were severely worn. Told me I needed 4 new tires and a 4 wheel alignment at 27,008 miles. Purchased 4 175/65r14 re 92 extra load tires. Left after paying for repairs including an oil change of $557. 61 n August 3, 2004. October 8, 2005 had two nearly flat front tires. Have had to put air into tires several times over the past 4 months - even took car to auto garage that changed tires from winter to summer thinking they put them on wrong. Oct. 12, 2005 started hearing a humming noise in front left tire. Took to auto garage on oct 15, 2005 to be told that once again tires needed to be replaced again because they were worn due to needing a front end alignment and front left tire needed a ball bearing. Inside wall of tires is worn off and danger of tire blow-out. Rear tires also show signs of premature wear on inside wall and should be replaced soon. Current mileage is 44,804. I also put on winter tires every autumn onto the front. Garage technician said there was something wrong with burning through 2 sets of 4 tires within 45,000 miles and I should contact dealer.

15 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/21/2003

Potenza 175/65/r14xl (oem tires) which are specifically made for the Prius, wear quickly and on the edges. This resulted in my tire tread having a 1/32 rating, while the middle of the tire still had a long life left. When making sharp turns at low speeds (especially when the car is cold), the steering wheel will vibrate (sometimes audibly, sometimes not). Were this to happen at even a slightly higher speed, accidents may occur. This problem has become more frequent in the last few weeks. It now occurs at least every other day.

18 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2001 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/29/2003

The tires on our 2001 Prius continually fail after about 15,000 miles. We have had state inspections fail because of tread wear, refused service at bridgestone dealers because of tread wear. With less than 50k miles we are working on the third set of tires. We check pressure and rotate our tires regularly. Since Toyota claims there are no replacements and no tread wear warranties, we think the car should no longer be allowed on the us market.

19 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/11/2003

2002 new Toyota Prius delivered with bridgestone potenza tires. These tires have failed after 12,000 miles. Then changed tires (all 4) which failed at 10,000 miles. Toyota corporate says its not their concern. Dealer told me they are not safe tires. I have replaced tires every 10,000 miles. Toyota corporate recommends these tires and takes no responsibility for them.
