1 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

On 10-17-24 these warning lights came 1. Pre-collision system 2. Hybrid system 3. Airbag 4. Safety connect red light and intermittently: 1. Slip indicator 2. Brake system cruise control would not set, and displayed "e3". ------- component failed: dealer determined that the driver's side door harness had been chewed by a rat that had entered the under dash area "somehow". They said it couldn't be repaired but must be replaced. My insurance deductible was $500 and they paid the balance of the $1,387. 06 bill. (I have retained the harness, which could have been repaired by splicing the two wires connecting to the driver's side airbag collision sensor. The labor to splice the wires would have been less than an hour. ) ------ safety: the chewed wire apparently disabled the airbag, pre collision, emergency automatic braking, seatbelt pre-tensioning, abs, and stability systems. ----- the dealer confirmed the problem. ----- my insurance adjuster did inspect the harness. ----- I placed electronic rat traps in the vehicle, which killed three rats. ========= next ========= all the same warning lights came on a few months later! I didn't throw more money at the dealer, and took off the panels to inspect the wiring myself. There was damage to the passenger side door harness wires. I removed the harness and ordered a $60 used replacement on ebay. While waiting for delivery, I researched rat damage to Toyota wires, and how rats could possibly enter the interior of the car. I discovered that there is an unscreened 12x9 inch opening to bring fresh air into the hvac system. It is hidden under the windshield wiper cowls. Also, there are two unscreened vents in the trunk area. Other Prius owners covered those openings with 1/4 inch metal wire hardware cloth. I spent a few hours disassembling, covering, and reassembling pieces to prevent further access through the fresh air intake, and will do to the rear next. Toyota should recall these cars and ratproof the harnesses.

2 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/11/2021

I inherited a 2010 Toyota Prius 3rd generation when my mother passed a few years ago. I've since had several unnecessary and costly problems with the car as well as dealership's outlook, treatment, and indifference to the danger that their customers face--as many already have. The following are situations that I'm experiencing now. First, I was recently leaving the pharmacy when all of my warning lights (abs, brake, traction ) suddenly came on and my brakes failed as I was heading home. I'm a single mother of a special needs child and I had to get home to her. I was approximately 1 mile from my home and I was nearly in 3 accidents that could've been catastrophic. Thankfully the road was dry, clear, and with little traffic. We have been homebound for weeks, without transportation for doctors, food, etc. Our vehicle is our only means of transportation, and we must get to doctor appointments, etc. Second, the car has inexplicably stalled twice. Third, I'm constantly having to replace lights, and have been pulled over by the police for lights not working. Finally, an airbag has been recalled and once I can afford it I'll get that fixed as well. I spoke with my local Toyota dealerships, and after explaining the problems, I was informed (several times as I was repeatedly transferred) that I had to pay an inspection fee that also changed with each person. Finally, I was told I had to leave my car there for days and that I was going to pay thousands of dollars to fix the car. I'm unable to pay that much money--and the amount kept changing as well. I have researched these problems and now understand the methodology and intimidation used on poor people such as myself. Toyota should be ashamed. Fix these problems that will endanger and possibly kill your customers for nothing more than their own incompetence and greed.

Hybrid warning light comes on out of nowhere. Code 3107: lost communication between srs ecu and power management ecu. All wires are otherwise good and no corrosion is apparent. This miscommunication means that the airbags are not working properly. Battery is healthy according to Toyota dealership. Hybrid warning light comes on intermitently to show when miscommunication is happening.

6 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/20/2018

Often referred clock spring as it is referred to part number 84307-47020 it affects a multitude of things on my car that are safety related including the horn, the buttons on the steering wheel that control the radio and tricks odometer, the airbag, maybe be airbags plearle, be adaptive cruise control and maybe other things. My knowledge my car has never been wrecked or had airbags blown and this is very premature for this part to fail. Believe Toyota should take responsibility for it. The warning light came on and it says in the manual that is unsafe to drive. Do not have a clue why it failed. The Toyota dealer repair is close to $900 which is ridiculous.

7 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

8 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

Repeated code b1826. Tested wiring to the driver side airbag; found 4 volts on one of the wires diag short to power in the driver side floor wire harness causing the airbag warning light to illuminate and deactivate the airbag system. Wire was chaffed due to movement of drivers seat. This is nearly identical to the gm recall of 2010 Chevrolet impala sedans issues July 21, 2016. Gm admits a problem with chaffed wiring, but Toyota with nearly an identical problem does not recognize that it has a problem. . . Or pay for the repairs $1482. 00. Problem was intermittent for more than 6 months before dealer could solve the problem. Most of that time airbags were inoperative.

9 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Prius 2010 airbag warning light come on intermittently.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/03/2015

Front passenger's airbag sensor doesn't sense medium weight passenger. I've talked to the Toyota dealer and they told me that if someone over 70lbs in passenger seat, the light will come on "airbag on" and stay on. If there is something in the seat that is lightweight, the light will say "airbag off. " if there is nothing in the seat, the light will remain off. My wife is about 110 lbs but the warning light "airbag off" is on most of the time. Sometimes I notice it and ask my wife to get out and then get back in to activate it. Seems like it works that way. Many times I did not pay attention to it until we came to our destinations. I did ask my wife to lift her body up for a few seconds and sit down but the warning light "airbag off" just stay on. Dealer says there is nothing they can do because the sensor is non-adjustable and there is no recall for it.

12 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

The srs warning light (airbag icon) lit up after pulling my 2010 Prius out of the driveway on April 4, 2014. We tested whether the seatbelt had anything to do with it, or whether it made a difference if someone was seated in the passenger seat or not. Neither seemed to make any difference. The car was purchased August 1, 2009, and has just over 61000 miles on it. It has not been in any accidents, nor run over anything. There is an umbrella that I store on the floor of the vehicle, close to the driver's seat. Since that time, the light appears intermittently, but when it comes on, it stays on the entire day. Took it to the dealer, but it was not displaying at the time, so they recommended bringing it back when it was showing up more consistently.

13 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

The air bag warning light came on while driving. We took the car in to check for the cause and they told us the wiring harness was bad and it would have to be replaced and that the air bags would not work because of a problem (of which they were already aware) with the wiring harness. A defect in the wiring harness - their words- would cost about $2000. 00 to replace. They are aware that this has been occurring in these vehicles, but as of yet there has been no recall or offer to correct the problem. If this isn't a safety issue, I don't know what would be. Please address this issue.

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

15 Warning Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/04/2010

2010 Toyota Prius: chronic failure of passenger air bag and seat belt warning light systems. Dashboard lights indicating passenger seat belt is unfastened and passenger air bag is off illuminate unexpectedly, and remain illuminated, whether anyone is in the passenger seat or not, and whether the passenger seat belt is fastened or not. Problem does not go away by merely shutting down and exiting the vehicle; erroneous indications recur as soon as the car is reentered and started up again. Five different visits to Toyota service centers have been made for this issue, with "repairs" lasting for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before the problem occurs again. There does not seem to be any pattern to what transpired leading up to the failure. The problem most recently occurred on 12/4/10, however, as of this date (12/6/10) the car has not yet been taken back to a service center. Notes: (1) "approx incident date" in "complaint info" section is of the most recent occurrence. First occurrence was mid-July, 2010. (2) "mileage" and "speed" shown in "vehicle information" section represent the first occurrence of this problem. Mileage at most recent occurrence was 13714. Speeds varied from occurrence to occurrence.

16 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

The airbag warning light came on and would not go off about 3 or 4 years ago, so I took it to the Toyota dealer who did something and reset it. It stayed off for about a year or so then came back on. I took it back to the dealer again who said the diagnostic said it was malfunctioning and that I needed to bring it back to replace some expensive part. I was on the way back to the dealer, when the light went out. The tech did the diagnostic again and said there was nothing wrong with it. The light stayed out for about another year or so and came on again a couple of weeks ago and won't go out . This time however, I have also noticed that the top of the dash on the passenger side has been pushed upward under the "srs air bag" phrase. This is concerning since the same thing has happened in the exact same place on the other 2005 Prius that I own . I contacted Toyota corporate who responded that there are no recalls on my cars and that for the most part, my cars were out of warranty. The rep said that she would document my report and that I should take them back to the dealer for inspection. This is the same dealer that has not been able to figure out what is wrong with this car the first two times. Meanwhile, I am driving around in a car that may or may not have working airbags because I need to get to work.

17 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/18/2009

Multiple times my 2007 Toyota Prius airbag system has failed due to a passenger weighing over 250 pounds sitting in the passenger seat. The problem seems to happen when the passenger wiggles when getting in or having a wallet in his back pocket. After he gets in the red airbag warning light comes on and it is my understanding that the airbag is then disabled. The airbag light will remain on until the dealer services the car. The dealer?s hand diagnostic tool once reported that the code was accident detected, but I challenged this and it was discovered that the code actually means occupant classification system fail. Unhooking the 12v battery will clear the system and supposedly make the airbag work properly again. The problem will reoccur when the same passenger gets in the passenger seat.

18 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota pruis. The contact stated that there was a recurring failure with the air bag warning light illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure where the front passenger seat was replaced twice but to no avail. The dealer then cleared the error codes but that also did not correct the failure. Next, the wiring harness and main computer were replaced yet the failure persisted. The contact believed the failure to be a manufacturing defect. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 107,000.

19 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/03/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Prius. The air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. The dealer made four attempts to diagnose the failure. The air bag under the passenger seat was disconnected; however, the warning light continued to illuminate. The vehicle is being repaired by an authorized dealer. The VIN was not available.
