14 problems related to other fuel system pump have been reported for the 2019 Toyota RAV4. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 based on all problems reported for the 2019 RAV4.
Vehicle is equipped with a low pressure fuel pump which may stop operating. If the vehicle stall occurs while driving, this could increase the risk of crash.
Recall for a fuel pump and Toyota still does not have a fix after 4 months.
Nhtsa recall number: 20v012 recall date: January 13, 2020 manufacturer recall number: 20tb02 still no contact from dealer on when replacement fuel pump will be available. 11 months seems excessive.
Received notice from Toyota in October regarding defect in low pressure fuel pump. Have not received any information since.
The gas tank of my 2019 Toyota Rav4 le hybrid will only fill to about 3/4 of a tank. My Rav4 has a 14. 5 gallon fuel tank. When I am near zero miles of range remaining, I often get less than 8 gallons at fill up. There is not a problem with the gas gauge. The tank read full only once, when the dealer filled the tank prior to delivery to me. I don't like to drive with less than a 1/4 tank of gas, as gas is used to cool the fuel pump. This results in most fuel stops only accepting between 4 and 6 gallons of gas. I recently took a 3000 mile trip that was 95% highway driving and that was my experience during the trip.
The fuel tank does not fill up to capacity. I am only able to fill ~8 gallons in a tank which has a 14. 5 gallon capacity. Also, when the low fuel indicator comes on, "miles to empty" reads only about ~30 miles which is incorrect in my opinion. There must be a calibration issue. I took it to the service station and they said there is no fix from Toyota. The recent recall affecting 700,000 cars with a fuel pump issue does not include my car (searched by VIN) or any Rav4 hybrids for that matter. How long is one supposed to wait before hearing back from the manufacturer? I have attached the service appointment confirmation.
When refueling, the fuel tank never reaches full capacity. Fuel pump always shuts off at about 3/4 tank. Fuel tank advertised to hold 14. 5 gallons but does no fill up passed 10 to 11 gallons.
I can't completely fill up my 2019 Rav4 hybrid fuel tank. The fuel pump always stops way too early at around 11 gallons (estimation), even though the cars fuel tank fits 14. 5 gallons. So I can only use around 80%-90% of my fuel tank capacity. Happens every time at every gas station. See attached picture. It shows the digital fuel level reported from my car to the Toyota connected services after a gas stop.
Less than one month ago, I purchased a new 2019 Toyota Rav4 hybrid limited that was built in japan and had only 7 miles on the odometer. The car was advertised to give combined 40 mpg and have a 14. 5 gallon fuel tank. I now have approximately 2 thousand miles on the car and I have experienced the same issue every time that I get gas in multiple states and gas stations. The tank will not fill up and the gas pump shuts off before the tank is filled. Every time that I fill up, the fuel gauge always stays about 2-3 lines below the full mark. Two days ago I drove the car until it stopped displaying a miles-to-empty reading and simply read, fuel needed. minutes before giving this reading, it said that I had approximately 31 miles left. I checked the Toyota remote connect app on my phone the next morning and it read that I had 24 miles until empty. I drove to the gas station and was only able to put in 8. 9 gallons of gas before the fuel pump shut off. I attempted to continue fueling two more times but each time I tried to top off, I only got a little more gas before it kept shutting off. After topping off twice, I achieve a grand total of 9. 4 gallons of gas purchased. If the tank is supposed to hold 14. 5 gallons and I was only able to add 9 to a car that was supposedly on empty, that is 5 gallons of gas that is missing. I'm aware that many Toyota have approximately 2 gallons left in reserve when the gas light goes on, however, 9+2=12 and still leaves the car short of about 2 gallons of gas. This is dangerous and is a safety hazard as it will result in many people trying to top off their gas by forcing fuel into the tanks and being unable to determine when the stop. This can cause gas leaks and an increase in emissions or risk of fire. It appears that many of the 2019 Toyota hybrids that were built in japan are experiencing this issue.
2019 Rav4 hybrid exhibits fueling problems, consistently. Parked on level concrete, shut off, in "refuel" status, at the fuel island, it dependably suffers abject failure at attempts to refill the gasoline tank at the fuel pump. With the fuel pump nozzle set to lowest flow setting, at any moment, the fuel being pumped down the filler tube surges back up the filler tube, occasionally spilling out onto the side of the car and the ground. Other times, with the pump nozzle set to lowest flow settings, it may automatically and arbitrarily shut off after 1 gallon or 4 gallons, when the miles driven along with the fuel gauge indicates the tank requires at least 10 gallons. It is impossible to know from one fill-up to the next fill-up if the tank is full, close to full, or several gallons shy of full. Refueling the Rav4 hybrid is a challenge that defeats the best mechanical and fluid dynamics aware person trying to fill the tank. This issue is ongoing and has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased new with 9 miles on the odometer on August 19, 2019.
The gas tank should be 14 gallons, however I am only able to but in to the tank aprox 8 gallons. I can force approx 1 more gallon by pulling out the nozzle on the fuel pump. The trip estimator will say it can only go high 300 to low 400 miles. When I bought new off the lot it was with a max filled tank and trip estimator was at 500 plus miles. The gas gauge never shows full and it doesn't appear to be accurate as to when the tank is low/empty compared with mileage estimator.
Fuel pump automatically shuts off but the fuel indicator shows 1 -2 bar less than full . Maximum possible fuel that I was able to fill when the vehicle was near empty is 10. 2 gallons (its still 1 - 2 bars below full).
I cannot fill the fuel tank to it's capacity. Fuel pump will shut off prematurely at about 3/4 full. That said, range is nowhere near as advertised.
Impossible to fill gas tank to capacity. When tank reported as under 1/4 can only add 7-8 gallons. Will only fill to 7/8 of a tank per the gauge. Only way to fill tank full is to top it off. Occurs at every fill up. We reported this to both Toyota and the dealer. We brought the car in for service regarding this issue more than once. They acknowledged the issue but have done nothing to fix it. Running out of fuel may result in an accident or leave drivers stranded on the side of a busy or deserted road creating a safety hazard. Running out of fuel may damage the vehicles, including their fuel system components. The owner's manual warns that if the subject vehicles run out of fuel or the fuel is too low, the hybrid system may not be able to start. The fuel tank defect creates environmental and safety hazards by causing drivers to top off (restart a fuel pump after it has automatically shut off) the fuel tank to try and achieve a complete fill-up. Topping off causes hazardous gas spills creating a danger to the driver, the environment and the vehicle. As a result, the fuel tank defect increases the environmental impact of these hybrid vehicles by increasing the number of trips consumers must make to refuel and causing environmental harm related to fuel evaporation and spillage (causing both groundwater contamination and emission of gasoline vapor).
