1 Engine Failure problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

Two weeks ago the car came on with an error message stating the hybrid system had failed. I brought it into the dealer and they replaced a relay valve and said they had been having the same problem in cold weather with other Rav4 hybrids. Now today, I went to start the car and it was listing about 6 error messages, everything from the brake power being low, engine failure, etc. The car wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealership.

2 Engine Failure problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving and slowing down, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to wellesley Toyota (234 worcester st, wellesley, MA 02481, 781-237-2970) where the mechanic retrieved an undisclosed fault code. The contact was informed that the code showed a non-specific engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000. The VIN was not available.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

Tamara recall engine failure almost caused a major accident. Dealership tells me the it's an recall but, it has now expired. I don't understand how a safety recall can expire. I need help from an attorney on this matter. Because this isn't right. Can you recommend an attorney? they said they could only do new rings and new pistons back then but now Toyota will not even do that. So now I just have a 5,000 bill for a new engine.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/02/2017

2006 Toyota Rav4 with 51,000 miles: my daughter was driving the vehicle on a major highway going 70 mph (the speed limit) and all of a sudden all the lights came on in the dash and car died, left my daughter stranded on a major highway. Had it towed and it was an engine failure. Yes, engine failed at 51,000 miles. Out of warranty and Toyota won't do a thing about it.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

Toyota Rav4 2008. Excessive oil use. Engine is using excessive oil, about a quart every 1,200 miles and use may be increasing in use. Thus vehicle can use up oil without warning causing an engine failure while traveling the highway/interstate. While vehicle may be well maintained this can happen without warning and strand passengers and be a safety concern should the engine blow while traveling at interstate speeds. Toyota issued a warranty extension to 150,000 miles or 10 years which this falls under but dealer examination indicated it was not using enough oil according to them but in my test I showed using 1 quart in 1,200 miles. Even a little under this amount of oil use is excessive as it indicates this engine has a problem as Toyota has identified. So far they have not been willing to repair. This should be covered under Toyota t-sb-0158-14. Dealer would not tell me how much oil was used in their test. Again anything in the range of 1 quart of oil in about 1,200 miles is a indicator that the engine is experiencing Toyota's identified defect and they should repair it.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

Vehicle is consuming an excessive amount of oil which I feel could lead to catastrophic engine failure, and if this should occur while I am driving on an expressway at a high speed it could be disastrous. The dealer inspected the vehicle and said that the consumption is normal at the rate of 1 qt per 1000 miles which I disagree.

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/24/2015

7/24/2015 traveling with family from wisconsin to florida in my 2007 Rav4. Driving on freeway when engine lost power. Coasted off freeway down exit ramp. Unable to restart engine on the side of the freeway exit ramp. Had car towed back home. Later that week had car towed to mechanic. Mechanic discovered catastrophic damage to engine. The engine had seized. The metal on the pistons melted and other engine parts where scorched. Replaced engine with a rebuilt. Only had 136,000 miles on Rav4. The Rav4 had regular oil changes and routine maintenance. Now I am seeing on the NHTSA website that Toyota knew about engines problems. I did not receive notice of this issue and I am out the cost of a rebuilt engine and the cost of a rental car while the engine was replaced. Is this same thing going to happen to my rebuilt engine? Toyota has not responded to my notification to them of the catastrophic engine failure.

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

The vehicle with 71,000 miles and perfect service record had a engine failure, without warning, while driving on the highway. The oil pressure light came on and before I had time to pull over to the shoulder to inspect the engine started knocking badly. I barely made it to the shoulder before the vehicle stalled. After having it towed to the dealership, they came out with the diagnose that the "engine threw a rod" for no apparent reason. There was sufficient engine oil and last oil change was done 4500 miles before. Basically, engine at this point is beyond repair and has to be replaced. Beside the financial lose, now I extremely concern about the safety and reliability of the vehicle and more importantly the engine or any other part that caused the engine to fail. The fact that I had 10 years old boy in the car with me who thought that we were going to die that day and crying hysterically make it all the more bothersome. When I called Toyota headquarter to report the problem, they basically dismissed me as routine problem and not Toyota's problem. They seem disinterested to find out why engine with so few miles got busted for no reason and perfect maintenance record. I am concerend about the reliability and safety of the engine in the vehicle (1az-fe). I hope govt investigate this case and I am willing to participate in whichever way I can to make it safe for my fellow riders.

9 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

Contacted Toyota about low engine oil and they said that the engine needed to be replaced. The service rep called it internal engine failure and seemed very familiar with the problem. They said that it was not part of a recall. I expected alot more than 100000 miles out of this car before a major repair like this.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/09/2009

My 2001 Toyota Rav4 threw a rod, resulting in a total engine failure. The connecting rod endcap bolt broke. This is not a maintenance item and it should never brake. The rod punched a hole in the engine block. The whole engine has to be replaced. The Toyota dealership says there's nothing they can do about it since it's not under warranty.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/09/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Rav4. While driving 60 mph, the oil indicator light illuminated and the engine stalled. The vehicle would not restart and was towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The failure was due to the lack of oil in the engine, although oil had been placed in the vehicle a week before. The engine was previously replaced in July of 2006 due to the same failure. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. The failure mileage was 68,000 and current mileage was 92,000.
