I went to start my car and the electric power steering warning light was on and the car would not start. Towed to shop and they can find nothing wrong and it starts right up. Concerned the power steering will go out while I am driving.

Approximately 30 days after purchasing my 2019 Toyota rva4, while driving to work during the week of August 1,2019 on a major highway my vehicle swerved to the right almost hitting an 18 wheeler without me steering in that direction. It happened about 15 minutes later swerving again towards the right almost hitting a car. During the week of August 5,2019 the car did the same thing again. While driving home, this time the steering wheel warning light started flashing. I checked the owners manual and it stated to take the vehicle to the nearest Toyota dealership immediately which I did. On August 17th I brought my car in to be checked. Initially a young service manager told me there was nothing wrong with my car. I was persistent in having my car checked. After the young service manager spoke to a senior service manager, he suggested to the young manager that if I am being persistent then she needs to do a code diagnostics on the car. I was told an issue was found and they had to keep my car. On August 21,2019 I received a call stating my car was ready. I asked what was the problem. I was told the steering angle sensor had to be recalibrated. The car was tested for 14 miles with no problems, but I should keep an eye out for any other steering issues. I must say I am not comfortable driving a car with steering issues. It is still swerving on occasions, but not as severe.

My car is Toyota 2010 rv4 sport. This morning when I start engine, the symbols of "electric power steering system warning light , abs, airbag, breaker , slip indicator warning light" on dashboard all lights on. That's never happen before. And when I was driving, the steering wheel become heavy. I was so shocked and go to a local auto service store, they check and told me this is electronic steering motor issue. They adjusted and wheel back to normal now, but they also mention they can not guarantee the same situation will be back or not. And they recommend me try to avoid drive on freeway ( but this is impossible if you live in California). I was told the same problem happen on Toyota recall group but not including my car's make year.

At first 3 warning lights were on where I was driving at speed around 10mph: check, 4wd, trac off. Then suddenly I could not turn the steering wheel easily, and I realized I was loosing control of the vehicle. I made a decision to move out of the busy road and turn into a small street. This I did, but only was able to stop the car on the other side of the street. As there were no car driving on the street, I did not crash my car. After the car was stopped, I noticed that an additional warning was electric powering steering system warning light. The car was towed to Toyota dealership.

I started my car and attempted to reverse out of my driveway - but it started then stopped and would not move - the power steering emergency light had turned on and the power steering wasn't working. I towed the car to my Toyota dealership. They told me the computer was faulty (on a 3 year old car ?!!) and I needed a new one at a part cost of about $700 and labor cost of $300-$400. The car was just out of warranty but they agreed to pay for the part if I paid for the labor. I was suspicious of why they agreed to do this, but I agreed. The following week I drove my car down my driveway and onto the road and as I was turning the power steering failed again, the light came on again, and I could not steer so I crashed into a hedge. (but I could have crashed at high speed and been killed) . I towed the car to the Toyota dealership - now they tell me they are replacing the whole steering column, at no cost to me. Obviously they know there is a problem. If you google it, lots of people have had power steering issues and even crashed at high speeds. This is a life threatening fault. Please look for a pattern.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Rav4. While parked, the contact noticed the steering wheel had become difficult to maneuver. The power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. After restarting the vehicle the power steering resumed normal functionality. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
Upon starting the car the red power steering warning light (p/s) stayed on and the steering wheel would not move. This has happened twice in 2 weeks. We are told by a mechanic that it is a very dangerous condition. Others on the internet with this exact problem say it cost $2500 to fix!!
turning the car off and then back on relieved the problem but it came back again a week later. Gm issued a recall quickly for its cars when they had a problem with the new electric instead of hydraulic steering. This is another major defect for Toyota which could be very serious if the steering fails while driving! loss of steering can result in major accidents. Thank you for your interest in this matter. Lives will be saved if you make Toyota meet its responsibilities and issue a recall.

My 2006 Toyota Rav4 has a clunking noise when turning. The dealer said I would need to replace the steering column for $300. 00 if I wanted to eliminate the noise. I declined. They said it was not a safety issue. Now the power steering warning light has come on.
I was at a stop sign no gas, turned down hill in snow car accelerated going straight into downed tree. My vehicle is not on the recall list and has had sticking accelerator, rear end clunking noise and power steering has made it where I am afraid to drive vehicle. My service animal hit the windshield that shattered when vehicle accelerated and had to slam on brakes at another time. I've had other near misses and two left of center tickets with power steering issues. I have taken into Toyota for steering and check engine light and they will not even write service ticket. They filled power steering fluid said no problem. They keep resetting check engine light stating its gas cap. This car is a lemon, transmission problems, electrical system, computer. This is the first new vehicle I ever bought and wish I would have stuck with used.
