I am customer at mavis salem, nh and purchased a cooper tire starfire solarus as 225/65r17 tire on January 29th, 2025. Undetected at the time of purchase due to lack of inspection by service manager scott who sold me the tire. Once I drove on the highway I start to experience the vehicle wobbling due to consistent low tire pressure, I found distortion in the tread area and separation of tire tread depth that does not the standards. Mavis would not inspect the tire when I discussed the concerns and denied refunding the purchase because the specific size was not listed on the cooper tire recall sheet. I di explain that the tire is part of the series of defective tire: starfire solarus as. I even asked mavis manager to call cooper tire to explain what I as the customer was experiencing.

P225 / 60 r18. Passenger rear tire blew out driving at highway speeds (75-80 mph). The car swerved back and forth across lanes almost into the median and then to the shoulder a couple of times and almost flipped before I was able to pull to the shoulder and stop. Another driver stopped to make sure I was ok and said he also thought I was going to flip more than once. I did not notice any warning lights prior to the incident. There were a couple of times prior to the failure that it felt like the car was swerving slightly - I thought possibly due to wind or different texture of the road surface, then the tire blew. The entire inside wall of the tire is separated from the tread. The dealer has not inspected the tire yet. I am ordering a set of new tires - I don't trust these and never want to go through that again.

The contact indicated that the failure also would occurred immediately after refueling. No further information was available. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealership, where the consumer was informed the tire pressure sensor on all four wheels had deteriorated and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the consumer it was a frequent occurrence, because there were so many in new england and due to the bad weather. The dealer stated it would cost $250 per tire to correct the problem. Updated 01/15/13.
On 04/09/2012, I took my Toyota Rav4 2008 for oil change at girard Toyota, new london. Toyota service department determined that the yokohama geolandar g91a radial tubeless m+s made in japan d7475l-11, 225/65r17-101h installed from factory when I bought the Rav4 (as new vehicle). I called Toyota, which issued case #:[xxx], saying that Toyota's warranty does not cover the tires. Toyota referred me to yokohama, fullerton, CA, tel: (800) 722-9888. I called yokohama which issued case #: [xxx]. Yokohama referred me to tireplus, east lyme, CT. I took the Rav4 immediately to[xxx] at tireplus. He determined that the threads of the 4 tires were in very good condition (#19); however, each of the tires (all 4 tires) are cracking between the threads. It is very clear that the tires were defective from manufacturing as my Rav4 has only been driven for 16,600 miles. Yokohama indicated that they are not willing to replace the defective tires covering 100% of the cost that they will only cover 70%. Toyota and yokohama should have sold me this Rav4 with tires that adhered to quality standards - that do not risk the lives of my family, relatives, friends, the public in general. Due to safety, I will go ahead paying to replace the 4 tires. I will appreciate that regulators look further into this issue as I know that other families and the public are at risk with these defective tires as documented in public complaints in the internet ? I have included the internet link about the complaints for reference. I also will appreciate if yokohama pays in full for the replacement of the 4 tires. Thank you in advance for our time and effort. . Read more...

2010 Toyota Rav4 limited edition. The low pressure light comes on in the dashboard when all four tires are properly inflated. Tri county Toyota blamed it on the tire pressure in the spare. This problem is reoccuring and causes one to second guess their tires. They do not have a solution to fix this problem.

My tire pressure monitoring system keeps turning on regardless of whether tire pressure gauges or mechanics say the tire pressure is within range. I know this system had a recall on other model years for Toyota, and I think there's something wrong with this one, too. This is an ongoing problem since I bought the car used from a Toyota dealership--unknown if it was an issue before then. Resetting the system (by pressing the reset button to the left of the steering wheel, as indicated in the user manual) only turns the light off for a minute or two, then it comes right back on.

Tire pressure light is always lit. . . Even with full tire pressure. Now at 151k miles, the vsc trac, trac off and check engine light are on. Nothing seems to be wrong and bulletin boards show people spending a lot of money at dealership only to have it come on again. I will not go that route, and will try to turn it off as it seems that it is a glitch. Want to report in the hopes that Toyota will fix/recall. I love my Rav4 and want to buy another one when this one is too old to drive, but don't want to have electrical problems.

This is an update for the complaint regarding the failure of the tire pressure monitoring system on my 2005 Toyota Rav4. After finding a knowledgeable service manager who took the time to check, he found that there is a tire pressure sensor in the spare tire. My spare was just a little low on air and since correcting it, the light has not come on again. I was not able to find any reference to the spare having a sensor in the owner's manual.
The tire pressure light fails constantly and without reason. I've had my tires checked, rechecked, balanced, rotated, rebalanced, rotated again, and nothing will stop the light from coming on. There are only 20,521 miles on my Rav4. This problem has been going on for months. I took my Rav4 to my mechanic again this morning and after checking all the tires again, he found no problems. My tires are new, less than two months old. While taking my husband to the hospital today the light came on again. My mechanic says it's a defect that the manufacturer should fix.
The tire pressure light comes on just about every other day. I have had the tires checked numerous times & the light continues to come on, this has been happening since November of 2007. This is a serious safety issue, I will never know if there is a real problem with a tire with this happening. I drive the highway daily & find this very troublesome. My 2005 rav 4 has under 25,000 miles on it. I am estimating the number of failures to be 50, however I think it is more. I believe this is a defect & Toyota should require these to be recalled & fixed.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while parked the contact noticed the tire pressure warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the warning chime activated. The contact applied air to the tires but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated there was corrosion around the front and rear driver side tire pressure sensors which caused the air to escape. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000. Updated 12/14/lj updated 12/17/12.
Toyota tpms system on Rav4 not usable with second set of (snow) tires. When I purchased an additional set of Toyota Rav4 oem rims for snow tires, I wanted to put tpms receives on those rims. When I called my Toyota dealer, they suggested that I not purchase an additional set of tpms values as my Rav4 could only hold one set of tpms data. They instead suggested that I ignore the tpms warning light, or cover it up with a piece of black electrical tape.

When roads are icy or snowy, tpms warns that tire(s) is low despite all tires having the proper pressure. After confirming adequate tire pressures, I reset the system. After encountering snowy/icy roads again, the tpms alerts again. This false alarm would likely confuse most drivers.
