After several years of fighting problems with, after braking to a brief stop, the loss of power/abs grinding when accelerating and turning right, now the abs is completely dysfunctional. Both trc lights will turn on and usually the parking brake, and when braking at speeds less than 10mph the abs will activate and prevent bring the truck to a stop without pumping them, on dry pavement. When the abs light turns on, then braking is possible, but all pressure is gone from brake booster and brakes sound like they're grinding, not like the sound of abs engaging. Very dangerous to drive in snow as front brakes work but drive axle doesn't disengage when the brake pedal is depressed. Regular mechanic won't engage with diagnosing issues as he feels the problem is partly computer malfunction and Toyota won't allow for used part mismatching. Abs/ecu is failed.
I tried to make apointments to local dealers they set up appointments and than don’t do nothing about it they said the don’t have any certified tech to do the job so I left with this mess not knowing when my ride is going to give. Out on me I got about 319000 miles Toyota should be proud and thank me for keeping my ride up to date I do my part to have it running good but they not doing there part to help me with these recalls please help me out.
When backing up or sometimes slowing down moving forward the vcs lights all come on and the brakes automatically engage (quickly and with a grinding sound) and the car moves to the right and stops abruptly.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to slow down with an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that a code came back in reference to the skid control computer logic change under the NHTSA id number: 10019688 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,735. Dr.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact, who was an independent mechanic, stated that the battery did not charge and the abs indicator remained illuminated. The mechanic diagnosed and replaced the alternator, and reprogrammed the computer system. The mechanic stated that the vehicle was repaired, but the abs indicator remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Vsc trac, trac off, and parking park light warning lights will illuminate seemingly randomly while driving. When the car is stopped and turned off and then on again the warning lights are no longer on. Dealership has been unable to properly diagnosis the problem. They have charged over $4,000 to replace various parts of the brake system but the problem persists. I am concerned the brake system will not properly function when this condition exists.
I get constant warning lights for brake, vsc and trac. This is a very common problem with the Sequoia. It shuts down those safety features.
Depressing the brakes - even lightly when slowing intermittently activates the abs along with a loud buzzing mechanical noise. As such, I'm not able to slow as quickly with the abs deployed. Mechanic reports this is related to TSB - but no recall yet.
Within the first two weeks, after purchasing the vehicle, the "brake" light, "vsc trac" light, and "trac off" light came on and there was a terrible grinding sound when attempting to stop. It was very hard to stop but luckily I was in a parking lot when it happened the first time. The "brake" light has continued to come on multiple times per week since may of 2015 and the other two lights still come on occasionally. In fact, on my 800 foot drive back from picking up my lunch today, the "brake" light was on. Each time the other 2 come on, it causes the breaks to grind and it is very hard to stop. There was just over 120,000 miles on the vehicle at purchase. I have read numerous forums online stating issues with this model, 2004, and 2003 models for the same issue but Toyota has refused to do a recall and expects customers to pay for something is obviously an issue throughout these particular models. I think something needs to be done about this issue. I believe it is a safety concern Toyota needs to be responsible for!!!.
As I started driving the car my vsc off vsc trac and break light when on when I tried to brake it made a terrible sound as I continued to press on the brake it made a hssssssing sound like air was coming out I got home and googled the problem I guess im not the only one Toyota is aware of problem but will not fix 2003 was fix but the rest aren't I did call Toyota and filed a complaint and the told me they couldn't do anything about it it was up to me and my responsibility if its an ongoing problem and very dangerous Toyota should recall I know have it with an experience mechanic and will hopefully get results soon.
I've had the 2005 Toyota Sequoia for 4 days now we purchased it over the weekend drove it home and it's been fine, all the sudden this morning the trac off light is on and vbc or vsc light is on I can't remember the specific letters, there's now a louder noise when driving down the road like a roar coming from the tires and the vehicle seems harder to stop, I called Toyota there are still no recalls for this issue but after reading all the complaints it sounds like a safety issue, why hasn't this been recalled?.
Driving vehicle and abs activates and stalls vehicle not allowing for acceleration pulsating the brakes and leaving me in the middle of the road for about 30/45 seconds. It has happen twice already same thing both times.
Brakes became "soft" with vibration in pedal and complete loss of acceleration power. Upon review-saw this is a common complaint that is not being resolved by Toyota. They recalled their 2003 product with the same problem. Folks go to Toyota to have problem fixed - only to have same problem within months and some folks have paid upwadrs of $3000. 00 and the problem is not resolved. There are thousand of complaints with this problem if you will monitor Toyotas complaint data base and many other forums. Will a family have to be gravely injured before action is taken?.
3 incidents in the last 90days, each one while the vehicle was in motion between 15-40mph with 5 passengers and in traffic. On each occasion, the brakes suddenly engaged, causing a loud bang/thunk sound followed by a severe shake in the vehicle. Speed & control was drastically reduced to the point of being uncontrollable. Within seconds, the vsc trac, vsc off, brake and maintenance lamps illuminated. Vehicle was very difficult to drive, as if the brakes were fully engaged. After pulling over, we shutdown the vehicle and let it sit a short period of time, on restarting, all lamps were on, the vehicle was drive-able however, the brakes we still being applied but slightly allowing the vehicle to move but on release of the accelerator, the vehicle slowed rapidly. After dropping off vehicle to a local non-dealer service center on each of the first 2 incidents, the codes were no-longer active and the shop indicated that nothing could be done unless the codes were active again. Research indicates the 2003-04 had skid control computer recall, reflashing/reprogramming the computer but only a TSB was issued on the 2005 model year. After the third incident, the most severe, we went to a Toyota dealer. They confirmed the recall & the TSB. In discussions with the service advisor's and technicians, they both reported that they have had numerous 2005 models with the same issue. The dealer informed us that the skid control computer will need to be replaced at a total cost of $1100. However, numerous posts on online blogs & forums indicate the problem persists even after the skid control computer was replaced. We are lucky that this event did not result is an accident as we were in traffic and vehicles behind us would not expect our vehicle to suddenly brake causing them crash into us at full speed. This is a severe known safety issue and Toyota should issue a recall.
About a month ago, beginning of March, the engine light, vsc trac light, trac off light, are all lite up when I turn on the engine. A week later, those light go off and on all the time and it still does it. From what I know, the trac off & vsc trac has something to do with the brake and I don't feel safe to drive in it. I went online and search to my problems and apparently, alot of people have the same problem as I do. Toyota need to have this recall and fix this problem to all their customers who have this problem.
I have a newly purchased, one owner, preowned Sequoia, the vehicle has been serviced every 5000 miles and all recommended maintenance has been completed at the same dealer each time. I have recently taken it for inspection and the dealer failed it because the vsc skid control ecu needs to be replaced because of error codes. This is a $2300 dollar repair. After looking online this is an very common issue. So much so that Toyota issued a TSB and changed the part out for a new one on future models. I feel like Toyota is very aware of this defect which is a brake related concern which to me is a severe safety issue. I would like Toyota to own up to this and pay for the costly repair. I read on a forum that everyone experiencing this issue should complain to NHTSA in hope of forcing Toyota's hand. I am canadian that exported this vehicle and I have been told that I need to deal with us Toyota.
2005 Toyota Sequoia failure of skid control ecu and brake booster, detected by diagnostic test by dealership. Dealership service personnel strongly suggested replacing at $2k cost or the vehicle would be a safety hazard (brakes could lock up at any time, which would create an extreme hazard). As the vehicle owner I had no choice but to pay the exorbitant repair cost.
"vsc off" and "vsc track" and "brake" lights all illuminated on dashboard. Severe loss of power. Unpredictable steering and braking.
2005 Toyota Sequoia trac off, vsc trac, and check engine lights all came on suddenly on vehicle with 62k miles. Understand this is common problem and that Toyota has recognized this as a common problem with these vehicles but will not correct. Cost to correct is $1,500 - $2,700.
2005 Sequoia - this is now my 2nd formal complaint. Vehicle has skid control, check engine, brake, ect lights on and multiple times lost braking control in traffic. I took to the dealer 3 times and finally they replaced the ecu ($1000) and assured me that this was the problem. Guess what? problem is back after just a couple months. Now it is said that the brake booster needs replacing($1000). Toyota has recalled this problem on other years but not the 2005. The time is now! this is a very dangerous vehicle for my family with 3 young children, plus it is costing us alot of time and money! Toyota. . . . . Please try and keep your reputation and help your loyal customers.
When our driveway is slippery, our 2005 Toyota Sequoia will not stop on a very slight incline. The front wheels lock up and the rear wheels keep pulling the vehicle until the roadway is reached. Toyota claims this is normal and the vehicle needs to be in four wheel drive with the center axle lock on! I don't know what they recommend for a two wheel drive Sequoia. I have a video of the vehicle in action if you would like to see it. Thank you.
