I was simply parking my 2004 Toyota Sequoia in parking lot space. Left front tire fell completely off the car without any previous warning of pending problems! ball joint catastrophically failed! prior recent new tires and alignment showed no pending problems. Did a check and found many prior ball joint issues for this car and a prior recall years ago. Towed to Toyota dealership in capitola CA. They replaced ball joint and related parts. They charged me lots of money claiming that this vehicle had "previously been recalled and repaired in 2007 so no liability on their part. I called Toyota corporate and complained and was bounced around until a fellow named "garret" told me the ball joints had been "fixed" in 2007 during a recall. Great. Then why do these issues continue? my car is driven only on public streets and there was no warning of this impending failure. The ball joint and related simply failed catastrophically. I take excellent care of this vehicle as I intended on keeping it regardless of mileage. What bs is Toyota pulling when their Sequoia (and other similar Toyota vehicles) continue to catastrophically fail without warning? I wonder how many people died on the freeway etc because of this? I have personally owned and/or family, friends etc. Many cars, trucks etc. Ball joints like brakes, tires hoses etc wear out slowly and give ample warning when they need replacement ie tire wear is increased, steering difficulty etc. Not in Toyota's case. There was no warning at all before the wheel just fell off the vehicle. These catastrophic failures of wheels falling off without warning at any moment are horribly dangerous and yet common knowledge including prior recall(s) and yet they still are allowed to continue. This is ridiculous!.

Left front (drivers side) wheel ball joint(s) failed catastrophically causing wheel to fall off and wedge under car while pulling into a parking space. No prior warning, no prior noise, no prior steering issues, no strange tire wear (tires just replaced 6 months ago). Just instant and catastrophic failure!.
Pulled out of driveway and drove 30 feet towards a stop sign going 15 mph and ball joint broke and car fell to driver side.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and making a left turn, the driver side ball joint failed without warning. The contact took the vehicle an independent mechanic where the ball joint was replaced. The contact stated that a year later while the contact's wife was driving at 70 mph, the passenger side ball joint failed without warning causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The contact veered of the side of the road and hit the median; the contact hugged the barrier of the median to prevent her from veering into oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road. No injuries were reported and police report was filed(p190541059). The vehicle was totaled and was towed to a independent tow yard. There are no recalls on the vehicle and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 230,000. Jo.
"ball joint failure" while travelling down freeway at 35-40 mph the passenger front tire had come off and caused the vehicle to drop. Lost steering, brakes and any control of the vehicle at this time. The vehicle skid into the guard rail spinning it around and sliding until it came to a stop. The arm came directly off the vehicle and is still attached to the wheel.

While driving 75mph on the interstate the front right ball joint failed (4 days after a safety inspection done at the Toyota dealership). The tire folded under the car and we nearly hit the median and then the car to our right. We managed to get the car to the side of the road. Took car to Toyota dealership where we were told that the ball joint had failed. $6,700 worth of damage was done to the vehicle. I ran my VIN # through your database and 0 recalls were found even though there is a recall for this make, model and year of car.

I am the original owner. The ball joints have failed on both sides, with the wheels falling off while driving. At speed, my family would have been killed -twice! the wheels have fallen off twice. I have kept this vehicle in excellent repair. I have owned 4 Toyotas and currently own three. Ball joints should not fall apart under any circumstances. Toyota has a recall for this problem back to 2004. However, they refused to stand by me on this, even after I paid over $2200 for the last repair. This is a dangerous situation for all Sequoias prior to 2004. I can probably get a photo of the wheel off of the car where it skidded to a stop.

I was told I need a 2nd air inception flow because it is bad. My ball joints are also needing to be replaced as they have been bad and its dangerous, the plastic handle for hatch broke, the arm for hatch broke, suspension swing arm bad, tramsmission misses first gear on and off. I bought this car because I wanted something I wouldn't have issues with and I have had plenty of issues since I purchased it especially with front end. Once in a while the engine reffs up high and I'm just sitting there with foot on the break.

I have a 2002 Sequoia and the dealership has been doing the repairs since I purchased it in 2003. I took in the recall for the ball joints and even before I received it I had an issue. When turning right, mostly in curves there is a loud grinding in the frontend and has been doing this since I purchased the car . They told me that here was not a problem but I am still having this problem and now the trac has to stabilize my car, this has happen while traveling no turns. The trac light is on and off constantly for whatever reason they can not explain it to me. This is getting dangerous for me I have spent money on this car lately but this is a very large repair and need to know what can be done to get this fixed I was also told that there is not an issue with my airbag as well that my car was not affected. I need help with this, this is my only transportation and this is getting dangerous.
After 2007 recall of ball joints, Toyota dealer stated ball joints need replacing once again.

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the ball joints fractured without warning causing the vehicle to stall. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ball joints needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,500.
On Monday afternoon 1/19/2015 was driving my 2007 Toyota Sequoia 40 mph as I drove my vehicle suddenly dropped on the left side & my tire flew off. Damage was done to my suspension as it scrapped & hit the concrete pavement damage was done to my rim. Now the dealership I purchased the vehicle from is currently working to resolve my issue. What happened to me has happened to many others where they will input your VIN into Toyota system but it does not populate that your vehicle is involved in the recall. Yet they recalled over 500,000 vehicle sold with the defect ball joint. This has cause substanital damage to a perfectly good vehicle.
Last year my car while traveling at a speed of 50 mph just collapsed. My ball joints fell completely off. My the grace of god I wasn't killed because I was on the interstate. I have since had it repaired but not by a Toyota dealer. At the time as now, all my lights were lit vsc trac, abs etc. I have had this problem throughout having this Toyota and it has been very costly. Now as we speak my car is at a dealer and I can only imagine they will tell me it's the faulty computer chip. I will also have them check for rust since I'm hearing of all these cases of rust. My car has been in tip top shape due to my husbands knowledge of cars. However, some of these reports appear to be incidents beyond our control. I'm lucky to be alive. I guess if I had been killed Toyota would still be denying their product is faulty. I would like Toyota to step up and pay for some of these issues I've had and if my car needs this expensive computer chip. . Abs is engaging my brakes they pay for it. This is the second time I've made a report and I haven't heard anything from Toyota. . .
Thursday may 20th 2001 ball joint failed on left front, doing 35mph. Wheel came off. Recall starting with Sequoias manufactured August 2001. Mine was manufactured may 2001. My vehicle was not under recall so they refused to fix it and the dealer wants $4800 for the repairs. They cited on the estimate that reason for failure is "unknown". They stated the right side ball joint is fine but they suggest replacing it for another $500. I was could have had a car full of teenagers going down the freeway at the time, my daughter wanted me to drive carpool for a field trip, luckily I couldn't drive for them.
Driving on the freeway, my car "collapsed". I was able to glide to the center median and stop. After towing my car to the dealer, it was determined that the ball joint failed (the ball joint had been recalled). I did not receive the recall notices. While Toyota is willing to repair the recalled item, they are not willing to cover the cost of the related damage which would not have happened if the ball joint did not fail. As an owner of 5 Toyotas, we feel that Toyota should cover the subsequent damage and the cost of the rental car since it took them over one month to contact us with their answer.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. While exiting the highway at 35 mph, the contact attempted to make a right turn and it felt as if a tire had blown. The steering wheel became extremely hot and he was barely able to maneuver the vehicle off the highway. He noticed that the tire detached from the mounting. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and they stated that the ball joints failed. No repairs have been made. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 127,000.
I am reporting about 2005 Toyota Sequoia. You are likely aware of the recall of the ball joint for the front wheels. This was official as of January/February 2007. I was informed about this when I took my car in service in November 2007, and then in December I received a postcard. Anyway, my car's all four tires had uneven tread wear, with marked wearing our of the outer half to the extent it is practically smooth with no tread left. As you know the ball joint defect is a common cause for this. I have discussed this issue with Toyota dealer and subsequently Toyota customer service, without any help. I am concerned that this may lead to pre-mature tire wear and on road tire rupture with crash. I believe, Toyota should be made responsible for reimbursing for the tire replacements. At least they should be providing a prorated cost adjustment.
I am having unusual tire wear on the outside edge of all 4 tires on my vehicle (2006 Toyota Sequoia), to the point of becoming bald. I have been relaying my concern to the dealer for the past 11k miles. The vehicle currently has 21k miles on it. The vehicle has been aligned 3 times by manufacturer dealers, the front ball joints have been replaced and the vehicle has been thoroughly inspected by district level manufacturer's people. They are saying nothing is wrong with the vehicle, but I have been doing some research and am finding that this has been a complaint on the same model of vehicle since 2002. I feel that the suspension of this vehicle is not allowing it to ride properly on the tires, thus causing this premature wear. The problem seems to be on bf goodrich, bridgestone and in particular, dunlop tires.
2005 Toyota Sequoia - vehicle was recalled in 2007 to have the ball joints replaced. After replacement vehicle goes out of alignment 3 - 4 times per year, tires wearing on the outside on the front two tires. Now front end is vibrating when going 60 mph or faster and steering wheel is shaking as well. Had it back to the dealer many times complaining that it keeps going out of alignment. I am being told there is nothing wrong and an alignment is performed to correct the problem. I have had numerous alignments performed and tires replaced due to this problem. This problem started back in 2007 and continues to today with the recent vibration in the steering wheel.
In 8/06 I noticed a roaring/grinding noise coming from my end. L. Bearing replaced x2. Problem remained. Then replaced the right front bearing. Still to no avail. I then took my car to Toyota in tampa who stated the replaced bearing had been pressed in too tight. I took my car back to the mechanic who then took the entire assembly over Toyota in clearwater to replace the entire assembly. Still no resolution. Tire problem? so, I took it back to the tire kingdom who put on new michelin cross terrain SUV tires. Problem remained. So I took it back to them and they then put on a new set of michelin ltx tires. Problem remained. So, I then took it to collisiontec in clearwater, thinking that perhaps tire kingdom might have bent something when they originally rotated the tires. (the certified Toyota mechanic had previously inspected everything under my car when he first had it but had been unable to detect any damage). Collisiontec drove the car and did an initial inspection, but could not detect anything. They have asked to have me bring the car back so that they can keep it for a week and do a complete inspection. In the meantime, my check engine light came on and the vsc/vtc light came on, so I took it back to the Toyota mechanic. The O2 sensor needs to be fixed/replaced. To fix the vsc/vtc Toyota doesn't sell the one part needed, only the complete set for $900! this is all on top of the original roar/grinding/vibration problem which still exists!! reapairs now up to 2k & no resolution. Also, my car was recalled for the ball joint problem. There is no sticker indicating ball joints replaced. If the ball joints were not replaced as they should have been, could this be the source of the roar/grinding/vibration? this roar/grinding/vibration is coming from the front and occurs only when the car is in motion.
Vehicle: 2001 Toyota Sequoia sr5 2wd. Front suspension problem. Since obtaining the vehicle in April 2001 I noticed a problem in the stability of the front end of the vehicle. I took it to the dealership (I-10 Toyota in indio) on 3 separate occasions and they were unable to identify the problem. When I heard about the recall (o5v225000) I anticipated that this was the trouble that I had all along with the Sequoia. When I looked into the recall it turned out that it referred to 2002 to 2004 vehicles only. Common sense tells me that if the trouble existed on subsequent models after its inception to the market, it is only obvious that 2001 models are to be included. I understand that recall letters will be issued starting in July 2005. I am filing this complaint because I am aware that 2001 models will not be included and I respectfully request that 2001 year models are also recalled. The instability with the front end continues. The tires have been changed 3 times to different types and the instability continues. Please verify with your internal engineers if the ball joints utilized on 2001 models were any different than latter models. You will find that the same mechanisms have been used until now that this issue is being addressed by your office. Your attention and subsequent positive inclusion of my petition is appreciated.
