4 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

Last week, (3/17/16) my neighbor was taking her three children to school in her 2004 Toyota Sequoia. She was traveling on a new road at approximately 30 mph when the front end of the vehicle dropped on driver's side. She thought she had a flat tire so she steered to the side of the road. It appears the driver's side, lower ball joint failed (see photos). I called hendrick Toyota of apex, nc and talked with mr. John specht (919-335-1678). He checked the VIN and said the lower ball joints had a recall and were changed on Aug. 15, 2007. He also suggested I contact Toyota to request their assistance to cover the cost to repair the vehicle (case no. 1603171574). He advised the vehicle be brought in for the airbag recall too. The vehicle was towed home on a dolly to prevent any damage to the transmission. The vehicle has 215,444 miles and was not used for off-road driving. The vehicle recently passed state inspection with no problems noted about the front end. If the lower ball joints were already replaced in a recall (2007) what did they replace them with, and how did they correct the problem? this failure could have caused a deadly accident at higher speed. When a lower ball joint breaks, the driver can only steer with one wheel. Bruce somers for melissa wisdom.

13 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

We bought our 2005 Toyota Sequoia brand new. It has excessive tread wear on the outer edge of the tires. We are going on our 3rd set of tires. The original ones were replaced at 28k and we are having to buy new ones at 66k. We have been diligent in rotating our tires and having the alignments done. In 2007 there was a recall on the lower ball joint for the front suspension. We complained to the Toyota dealer at that time about the uneven wear on our tires, and could it be caused by the defective ball joint. They disagreed and said that it was from not taking care of our vehicle. We told them that we had the tires rotated at the recommended times. They said the car was fine, the test for the alignment was fine so it had to be the driver. Since then I have checked out other 2005 Sequoia's and noticed the same wear problem. I have also gone on different forums regarding this subject and have found the same complaint from other consumers. At what point is Toyota going to do something? is a car going to have to blow out a tire and kill someone for them to do something about this defect? our tires are bald on the outer edge of the tread but still have another 25k miles in the middle. I am extremely cautious going around corners because the traction control goes into effect. I am frustrated with the response that I have received from Toyota. There is something wrong with the suspension. When I spoke to a representative with Toyota, I was told," that it is normal to only get 26k miles out of your tires. You can't compare your Sequoia with the tahoe or explorer. " I have filed a complaint with Toyota in 2010 and the dealership in 2008 and I feel that it is being brushed under the rug. The amount of money we are spending on tires and alignments is frustrating. I just want my vehicle to be fixed so that the tires have an even wear pattern and last longer than 26k miles.

25 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/25/2007

On Friday, may 25, 2007 at approximately 2:45pm, my wife (belinda) was traveling on the northbound 57 freeway transitioning to the westbound 210 freeway. At this point, she lost control of the vehicle. Hysterical, she still managed to navigate the vehicle over to what is a quasi shoulder on this transition only to exit the vehicle, examine the affected area (passenger front wheel), to find that the wheel itself had come apart from the vehicle looking like a \"pancake. \" it would only be a few moments before passersby stopped stating to her (after they had examined the damage) that her ball-joint had broken along with several other parts of the suspension. She was lucky she wasn't killed (or, my entire family for that matter on a trip to san francisco we had taken only three weeks before this date). My wife telephoned me on my cell phone, at which point I called the auto club for a tow. Shortly after, a chp officer had appeared on the scene as well as a tow-truck driver. Traffic was backed up for approximately 3 miles. However, both the chp person and the tow-truck driver stated more specifically that, the lower ball-joint had failed. My wife was petrified. When I got in there, a service-writer (I have her card somewhere else) had already undertaken a search to see if my vehicle fell under a recall. I found it curious that she\'d do a search for this specific recall if she did not already know exactly what was wrong with the vehicle (as if she had seen this exact kind of damage before). In other words, I am reasonably certain that she knew exactly what was wrong with the truck when I brought it in. As of this morning, I spoke with the symes service manager (louis) who in turn stated that he spoke with his \"area director\" \"tomo. \" he instructed his service manager, louis, to tell me that Toyota will not be taking care of this as it does not fall within the vehicles recalled.

35 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/02/2007

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Sequoia from the power cerritos dealership in CA on Jan. 14, 2007. I brought the vehicle back on Saturday Jan. 27, 2007 to have the lo jack installed. At this time I was told that there was a recall on the front ball joints on the 2 front wheels. The power Toyota service department repaired the recall at this time. I picked up the vehicle later that afternoon, at which time I was told everything was ok. On Friday Feb. 2, 2007 I proceeded to back out of the driveway of my home and heard a large grinding noise, sounding like my car bottomed out on the driveway. I proceeded down my street with my children in the car and attempted a left hand turn, at which time my car resisted the turn and made a very loud grinding noise again and the steering wheel started to shake and the car became uncontrollable. I actually drove my car backwards in a straight line, once I slowed to a stop and realized I could drive the car as long as I didn't turn the wheel. I immediately called power Toyota cerritos and spoke with the service department manager and told him the problem and that I thought it was the same issue as the recall repair, he called for a tow truck and sent his service specialist to my home to look at the car. I expressed to him my extreme concern, because had I been on the freeway, my car would have been completely out of control at high speeds , which could have resulted in an accident that would have caused injury, if not death to my children and myself. I was appalled that their service department did not correct the problem the first time and sent me home to drive an unsafe vehicle. Vehicle is still at the power Toyota cerritos and I have yet to hear form the general manager, even after leaving multiple messages. The service manager has been trying to take care of my car, but how am I to feel safe after 500,000 have been recalled for this problem?.
