I was driving my 2002 Toyota Sequoia on the freeway at approximately 65 mph on the [xxx] when suddenly the vehicle made a beeping noise and the vsc light and trac light came on. The vehicle suddenly lost control in the wheels and tires and suddenly decelerated out-of-nowhere. Due to the sudden, abrupt movement and loss of control, the vehicle nearly flipped over. It was an extremely dangerous, possibly life-threatening situation. Thankfully, I was attentive and alert and had both hands on the wheel and was able to get the vehicle in control. This happened before two times and this would be the third time. I have taken the vehicle to several different auto repair shops and they have been unable to pin point and fix the problem. Because this issue continues to happen and puts me into dangerous situations repeatedly, I firmly believe that this is a bigger malfunctioning/defect problem that Toyota needs to address and fix. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I am submitting this complaint to raise serious safety concerns regarding the towing capabilities of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia. Despite its advertised towing capacity of up to 9,000 pounds, this vehicle is dangerously unstable when towing even modest travel trailers—particularly single axle models weighing around 4,500 pounds. During a recent vacation, I towed a properly loaded single axle travel trailer using my 2024 Sequoia. The trailer was equipped with: a weight distribution hitch anti-sway bars balanced tongue weight and cargo distribution despite these precautions, the Sequoia was thrown around on the highway, requiring constant correction and resulting in a white-knuckle driving experience. My vacation was ruined, and my safety was put at risk. The trailer now sits unused in my driveway because I cannot safely tow it with this vehicle. The instability appears to stem from the Sequoia’s: short wheelbase, which reduces towing control soft suspension, tuned for comfort rather than trailer handling hybrid drivetrain weight distribution, which may compromise rear-end stability these design choices make the Sequoia unsuitable for towing travel trailers, even well below its rated capacity. Rv dealerships, including camping world, routinely sell trailers to Sequoia owners based solely on the published tow rating. There is no warning or advisory provided about the vehicle’s real-world towing limitations. This practice is misleading and dangerous. I urge Toyota and the NHTSA to take the following steps: issue a technical service bulletin (TSB) or formal advisory warning owners about towing instability with the Sequoia. Educate RV dealerships about the limitations of SUV towing dynamics, especially with single axle travel trailers. Investigate owner complaints and consider a broader safety review of the Sequoia’s towing performance. There are multiple online reports and forums where Sequoia owners share similar experiences. This is not an isolated incident—it is a sys.

Fuel filler door hinge and pin does not work properly. The hinge, door, and pin are bent. This prohibits 1) opening the door, 2) filling the gas tank, and 3) the door from closing properly. The spacing around the door is not equal and is askew, tilted to the bottom right and dips inward. Toyota seems to have used this design on other models, eg camry, sienna, etc. I located a NHTSA customer support bulletin for those models with a similar fuel filler door hinge and pin design; however, I was not able to not locate one for a 2019 Toyota Sequoia. Your website does not allow video uploads, so 3 photos are attached: 1) widest point the door will open with assistance, 2) widest door will open without assistance, and 3) the door closed. Please look into this matter. Please 1) provide replacement for current owners, and 2) send feedback to Toyota to engineer a better option for future vehicles. Many thanks,.

The frame of the vehicle is rusting away despite being sprayed with rust inhibitor during the frame recall. The vehicle was considered unsafe to drive due to large holes in the frame just 3 years after being sprayed by Toyota.

While driving with my family in the car our panoramic sunroof exploded out of now where. Now after a week of waiting and missing work due the dealership waiting to see if warranty is going to cover it. I’m being told to utilize my insurance because the panoramic isn’t covered under warranty.
On three separate occasions we have lost braking power preventing instantaneous stopping, and control of the vehicle. They partially work when your foot is pushing on the pedal all the way to the floor. This occurs autonomously without warning and the following occur: lose breaking power, inability to brake and stop at safe distances instantaneously and momentarily, brake abs alarm, parking support brake malfunction ("visit your dealer"), check engine, collision assistance fails, and traction control fails. The first occurrence my spouse was driving the vehicle on a 65 mph three lane highway that at the time was evening rush hour. She had to decrease her speed to 30 mph in a 65 mph speed zone in order to slow the vehicle enough at a safe distance from the vehicle in front of her, then continue at a safe distance as traffic ahead of her excelled. Had this happened traveling the speed limit, and had to stop abruptly, this could have either caused severe bodily injury and/or death to her and the vehicle behind and in front of her, and other adjacent lanes. The second occurrence after the dealer looked at it (as covered under warranty), we received the vehicle back. The next day the brakes went out and alarms appeared once again as she pulled out of the driveway. I pulled the vehicle in the driveway for her and couldn't stop and almost drove through my garage at only idling speed. The third occurrence was most recently after an oil change. I drove the vehicle around the block and again, the brakes went out and alarms appeared once again. We have owned this vehicle since may 10th and it has been at dealerships for repair for at least 35 days minimum. On the first occurence they had a regional tech/engineer inspect the vehicle. Nothing was found as problematic and a factory reset was performed - nothing replaced. The second occasion - same outcome. . . Nothing fixed or replaced. The vehicle is in the shop again for the same problem.
Took my Toyota in for repair at they deemed it not safe to drive.

This Toyota has several large rust holes directly on the frame. I hit a pot hole and more structure damage was revealed on the frame from rust. The truck drives rough now. The vehicle only has 150,000 miles. The rust holes are so severe that they're directly under my suspension. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle. Their was once a recall for the frame. It doesn't seem that it was satisfied. I'm very worried about this issue. Toyota should have to replace frame or make it safe to drive.

The rear hitch cover has been on recall for several months now. Toyota does not seem to have a remedy in place for it. And there has been no further communication regarding when a dealer can replace the component. The cover came off and was crushed while driving.
The paint on my vehicle is peeling off- roof, around all windows and expanding. I went to a Toyota dealership part counter to get touch-up paint and they told me that color had a paint recall. (every time I wash the vehicle it gets worse. ) I asked to speak with a service manager at Toyota, 11/2024 and was informed that the paint color (0070 blizzard pearl) had a recall for peeling off. their recall solution is to bring the vehicle to a certified Toyota collision center and they will repaint the vehicle affected by the recall. It's not a safety recall, but rather a csp(customer support program). unfortunately, even if you service the vehicle at a dealership it is unlikely they would share the csp information, only a safety recall information. instead, a csp is mailed to you. I contacted Toyota customer service and they mailed the csp notice in 2020 to the previous owner's address. Toyota then extended the csp expiration to 5/13/2024 on 12/11/2022, but failed to mail an additional extension of the csp notice to me. Toyota did confirm they had my contact information during that timeframe. Toyota did send me other safety recalls from 12/11/2022 to 5/13/2024, so they had my contact information to notify me of the csp paint recall. I was told since the csp expired 05/2024 that they will not repaint my vehicle and I will have to pay to repaint. Toyota is being unethical, dishonorable, scandalous, shifty, discreditable, parsimonious and immoral. as they did not act with due diligence to notify their customer the paint was going to literally fall off of the car. I was laid off and can not afford to pay to repaint it. they need to act in good faith to rectify this issue and repaint my vehicle. had I been notified 2 years ago, I would have certainly had them repaint it. I thank the parts counter employee to letting me know this was their fault.

Vehicle comes with factory installed trailer towing equipment. 1. When a trailer is hooked up and headlights are turned on no signal is sent through the seven blade connector to turn on the running lights on the trailer. 2. When the trailer is connected no signal is sent through the seven blade connector to activate the electric brakes on the trailer. Because of these defects I was unable to tow my trailer. I have connected the vehicle to three different trailers and experienced the same issue. I have taken the vehicle to authorized dealer twice and they deny the problem.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the rear trailer hitch cover detached from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed the contact that the trailer hitch cover frequently detached, and the part would not be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 99.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while driving 25–45 mph, the trailer hitch cover detached from the vehicle. The contact was able to retrieve the cover on the road and noticed that it was damaged. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,600.
My wife returned home and exited the car leaving her key inside the car. She went to open the backdoor to get our infant son out and the car had locked itself. She had to call me at work so that I could unlock the car with the app.
The tow hitch cover came off at an unknown destination on the road. It was there when I left home and missing when I reached my destination that was about an hour away. This included some in-town and some highway driving. This occurred less than one month after I purchased the vehicle and I friend prompted me to submit this report, as they heard this is a common occurrence on the ‘23s and ‘24s and this is definitely a safety hazard, especially traveling at high rates of speed on the interstate, highway, and especially the toll roads I use that have speed limits of 75+ miles. (texas). The dealership was not helpful, and it’s not something I want to file an insurance claim on to possibly increase the monthly premium.
Toyota frame is falling apart due to the use of faulty metal to manufacture those frames they ran a limited service campaign to replace some of the frames and they denied many other owners that right please help by telling Toyota north America to take care of this very hazardous issue thank you.

No accident. Just frame issues. If you can. Can I please get a voucher for frame repair. I really like this SUV. Thank you!.
My wife pulled out of a parking lot and there was a loud noise and the vehicle began to shudder violently. Approximate speed was 10 mikes an hour and she was able to stop. The drivers side rear suspension airbag had broken through the lower control arm, and was under the rear driver side tire. It appears some frame members are cracked as well. Had this happened at highway speeds, it may have resulted in a catastrophic accident. Writer contacted Toyota, as I do not recall being notified of their zh9 frame replacement program that resulted from a class action settlement, and the rear of the frame is horribly rusted. Vehicle probably would have qualified at that time to be fixed, but am now out of the window. Manufacturers should be made to notify via certified mail, so they know their customers received notifications like this.

Rear plastic hitch cover piece flew off at interstate speed endangering other drivers on the road.
On 10/23, I was driving at around 40 mph on whitestone blvd and my Toyota Sequoia lost power and the engine started shaking aggressively, there were no previous warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure mode to occur. After that, I had to pull over an almost got hit by another vehicle when moving to the side of the road, I was able to turn the car back on and move about 10 feet and the car lost power again. There was a warning in the screen "hybrid engine failure", and the transmission indicator was marking both park and drive at the same time. The vehicle was towed to Toyota of cedar park for inspection, which was the dealer where I leased the vehicle from around 6 months ago. On 10/25, I received a call from the dealership that the car was ready for pickup and the dealership reported the failure was caused as a transmission range sensor failure (p070562). The dealership only action was to reset the computer and clear up the code. No sensor was replaced and the dealership was unable to replicate the failure mode after driving the vehicle for about 20 miles. The dealership requested me to take the vehicle and bring it back if the failure shows up again; I informed the dealership, I will not be taking the vehicle under those conditions as the failure mode could be catastrophic and could create a safety hazard if it happened again at high speed on the highway putting my family's safety at risk.
So in few words when check engine light is happening then immediately traction control and skid control and maybe other safety features are automatically goes off, which almost made me crash with all my family during rain. I definitely don’t like it and I don’t think it’s a good idea if one of the non critical sensors broken then you have to die in crash. I think Toyota should check it because it’s doesn’t sound right.

The frame and attached components of the 2002 Sequoia are rusting at alarming rates. Seemingly surface quickly turned into structurally penetrating rust (I. E. Holes in the frame rails). Additionally rocker panels and wheel arches show signs of significant penetrating rust. Pieces of rusted metal were found under the car on my driveway recently.
Plan road trip had vehicle thoroughly. Inspected only to find that the frame was cracked on goth side and all brake lines are corroded. Called several places to get help with this matter, only to have no help at all. Spoke to many people final communication was with kendric in tennessee who admitted the prior owner was notified as to the issue I have owned this vehicle for 6 yrs and could not understand why the prior owner was notified and not I. I find that due to not notifying the correct owner they should allow me to have this issue taken care of, but they are not cooperating with me I would like to take this matter further and have them accountable for this safety issue and neglect as to contacting the existing owner. Reaching out for help sincerely beverly fournier bmfournier@hotmail. Com 207-436-0654.
Frame of vehicle is rusting. Never reserved any recall notifications. Called Toyota supervisor said not covered missed deadline. Now have to pay $2000 + for undercoating. Toyota should pay for it they are refusing. I am not the only one not being g notified.
The lock actuators in the doors are notorious for going on more than normal it's another very common issue with the seqouia. My driver one is bad right now. And clearly the window motors are faulty cuz I had 3 bad at once I fixed one but my sunroof and back tailgate window both do not work. It is also a very common problem.
No incident. Frame is getting a little rusted. Can you please send me a voucher for a recall.
The sunroof exploded from the inside while driving at highway speeds.

I recently purchased my 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 4wd that had the manufacturer’s undercoating done as a result of the lsc in 2013. The coating has failed and water was able to seep in causing massive rust on the frame. It is a safety hazard to drive at this point.
Took the SUV for an oil change and was brought to my attention that the frame of SUV, chassis, is rusted and can break any moment. I took it to Toyota 2 years ago for the recall, and they said it was fine.

The transmission seems to be slipping cs when taking off rpms goes up then vehicle takes off cs when going uphill around 40 vehicle struggles and does not shifts down. . Need replace transmission. . .
2013 Toyota Sequoia limited (108,000 miles) rear lift gate around latch was not designed correctly to allow moisture out. Our vehicle is in pristine shape other than the rear lift gate latch. By the time you notice it, it’s too late and unfixable. I’ve seen these get so bad from doing internet research some people hold the door down with straps because the structural integrity is gone and the lift gate can’t be latched and could fly open. The ironic thing about this is it’s obvious Toyota has a problem. Toyota charges $750 - $1000 for a new unpainted lift gate, however no dealer in the united states can tell you when you’ll receive it because it’s on a nationwide backorder. We purchased this from a non-Toyota dealer September 2022 and did not (or even think I had to look for it) notice this until spring 2023.

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia 167k miles that has major frame rust. This is now becoming a safety issue and Toyota needs to be held accountable!.
Frame is rotting out.
Frame is completely rusted. Almost the body is about to detach from the frame. A very safety issue. This vehicle was never taken to Toyota for rusted frame at the time of the recall. Toyota must resolve this issue because it's safety matter as the frame can separate from the body at any time.
